This morning, we stopped by McAlisterâs Deli (Downtown UAB location) to grab a menu because we wanted the family members visiting with me, who had never had McAlisterâs before to be able to look it over and decide what theyâd like for dinner. When we walked in, it took 4â5 minutes before anyone even came to the front. Eventually, a gentleman appeared, looking around and saying aloud, âWhere are my workers?â We explained we just wanted a to-go menu. He didnât say they donât have any, he simply pointed to a laminated copy and said, âJust take one of those,â which we did.
Later, I placed my order online, expecting a smooth experience but it was anything but. When we got back to our hotel (since weâre shuttling and donât have a car), we discovered several problems: ⢠The Spud was completely dry with no cheese. ⢠The BLT Avocado came with no avocado or condiments. ⢠I requested Doritos as my chips, the online menu even let me select them but I received Cheetos instead.
I called the location to inform them about the issues and to arrange to bring the food back tomorrow in exchange for a refund â since returning that evening wasnât realistic with our transportation situation. No one answered the first time, and when I called back and chose the catering prompt, a woman finally answered. She told me the location was already closed (at 8 PM) and said we could bring the food back which wasnât realistic since weâre shuttled. Then she claimed they âtold meâ they donât carry Doritos when I ordered, which is simply not true. I ordered online, and Doritos were shown as an option. If you donât carry them, the website should not allow customers to select them.
When I mentioned how long it even took this morning just to get a menu, she started making excuses instead of taking responsibility. Im a Publicist in so I understand trying to save face but dismissing a frustrated customer who is already under emotional stress from being here for a family member awaiting a heart transplant is not the way to handle it.
She did say that the GM, Dustin, would refund me for the Spud and the BLT Avocado (without the avocado), which I appreciate but the experience overall was very disappointing. At this time I have not received the refund, nor has Dustin reached out, even though I left my name and phone number.
The McAlisterâs locations back home provide excellent service and have updated menus readily available. I strongly urge this location to improve. You are in the heart of a major hospital, many of your customers are already dealing with difficult situations. The least you can do is get their meal right, own mistakes when they happen, and maintain a website that reflects what you...

Like most reviews for this location, my experience was tremendously terrible and disappointing.
I was racially profiled and treated unprofessionally by the district manager of this McAlister chain who happened to be in the store this night and this particular store manager whom I believed basically stole a cell phone accessory of mines (since they are unwilling to give it back) that was left behind accidentally did so out of a spiteful, yet unprovoked motive.
What further this belief of my possession being stolen by this McAlister's staff was I only left for two some odd hours and the officer sent and myself where refused to view surveillance footage to see if a worker picked it up to hold until my return, or highly unlikely if any customers (hospital and corporate workers) would have grabbed it and left.
The biggest red alert was the district manager said it's impossible to rewind the surveillance footage past 2-3 hours which I suppose if some one 2-3 hours earlier were shot and ended up dying that same response of not being able to rewind footage back 2 hours.
I was also told by a waitress who was told by a manager that they did see my cell phone accessory at the table I ate at earlier...which is funny because the district manager lied and said he was told that I come in and never purchase anything when the female manager (that particular day), he African American manager, the young blonde haired girl who works the register and the young Asian male waiter can all attest different.
My experience at this McAlisters bottom line was of disgusting, hateful, unprofessional, disgusting conductivity which ruined my night to finish my study project to due by this week's Sunday.
I'll leave this as a message to websites customer's feed back and as the...
Read moreWas excited to visit this location for the first time. The cashier (Kristina) was nice, patient and helpful. The restaurant was also nice and clean. The kitchen staff were loud and very chatty with one another (about the customers waiting ) inside the kitchen and walked in and out getting drinks and going to the restroom while there were several tickets up and customers waiting and picking up orders. I heard one man from the kitchen ask "why are they standing there?" and the guy expediting the orders answered "they are waiting on food". The expeditior had several customers orders sitting in the corner instead of passing them out. Myself and others had to walk up to the counter to ask for orders that were ready but being stored in the corner to get cold. I waited for 25 minutes + . The manager that was present never came over to assist or try to speed along the process. Looking into the kitchen, several of the staff were looking out into the lobby commenting on pretty women coming in and out instead of preparing orders. I believe this is the culture at this location, so I would try a different location for better and faster service. Food was good but prepared rather sloppy. Kristina our cashier was the only good thing...
