I order from these guys all the time! I'll admit they used to be one of the worst in town but they stepped up their game a few months ago and now they're my favorite in town, hands down. The prices are great, at lunch before 3pm you can get a combination plate (most expensive dish is only $6.25) that comes with a soup of your choice, fried rice, an egg roll, and your choice of main entrée (crispy, sesame, orange, and general tso's chicken are my top choices) its so much food I can easily make two meals of it. The best part is NO DELIVERY FEE! Dinner entrées are about $10± and are huge proportions. I have to throw this in there too, try the crab rangoons, again, by far, best in town.
Not everything is perfect, nothing ever is. Delivery times are slow, pushing an hour most times, but I never mind because it's always hot, fresh, and worth the wait. Honestly I feel like other places are pre-cooking their chicken (or whatever protein) and making it tough and indistinguishable as even chicken, but here its always tender juicy white meat. There only seems to be one gentleman that answers the phone, the manager I assume. His English is good, but still a little choppy at times which can make ordering a little less than smooth. He may forget to tell you the price or delivery time, but if you ask while you have him on the line or call back he'll happily tell you. He's always very friendly, patient, understanding, and has a proper "the customer is always right" attitude.
WARNING the prices they have on GrubHub are wrong. They have an official website you can order online at, the prices are correct there.
Seriously though, amazing place. Give it a try, you won't regret it. I'm actually about to order...
Read moreFirst off, if you are here for authentic and good Chinese food you came to the right place. If you are looking for a nice ambiance or top-tier service you are better off going elsewhere.
With that being said, Hunan King makes excellent Chinese food. Almost every item we got on our numerous visit here were good to the point we would visit multiple times a month. Throughout my numerous visits I've ordered Hot-Spicy Chicken, Szechuan Style Pork Intestine, Sweet & Sour Pork Cutlets, Beef Stew Pot, Salted Baked Flounder Fish, Hot-Spicy Shrimp, Spicy Bean Curd Filets, Salted Pepper Squid, Steamed Tofu with Fish, Boiling Fish, String Beans with Minced Pork Szechuan Style, Szechuan Bean Curd with Pork, Eggplant Pot with Pork, Dry Pot Fatty Beef, and Dry Pot Beef.
Everything we ordered was good however I will highlight my favorites:
Dry Pot Beef: (nice spicy sauteed beef wit savory potatoes and crunch celery)
Boiling Fish: Lots of spicy fish in a nice spicy szechuan oil
Eggplant Pot with Pork: Sauteed eggplant to create a spicy smoky flavor with enhancements from ground beef.
Again, if you are looking for the best Chinese food in Blacksburg (since LYC closed), then this is the place....
Read moreI remember when the original lotus garden pr hunan garden was at this location on about 1975ish. The restaurant of today is different, with different decor. I believe the old teak bridge that was the entry is still there unfortunately covered in carpet. I had the chance to have dinner there July 4th the night before heading back to Arizona. The food was very good at a reasonable price. The crispy chicken with general tso sauce they made special for my brother and I was delish. These days it caters to va tech students instead of the somewhat upscale restaurant of yesteryear. So with that said I will go back when I'm back in Blacksburg. The servers were busy on their cell phones but it was July 4th and no one else in there. Enjoy!! I did.
We to update. I was back in Blacksburg from May until today July 21. Food has gone down hill. We ordered 3 different occasions. Each time the pork fried wontons were different. 1st order perfect. Second greasy mess and not hardly fried. Last order so bad. It was if they dipped them in cold oil and tossed in a container. Really...
