After a long day of traveling and whiskey sampling, El Agave in Blanco, TX, really hit the spot for our Tex-Mex craving. I enjoyed the Mexican Plate - 1 ground beef puffy taco, 2 chicken enchiladas, rice, beans, and guacamole. The taco was loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, and the all important taco shell was perfectly puffed and not too doughy. The enchiladas were filled with well-seasoned chicken and topped with a rich gravy and cheese. My wife had bean and cheese nachos made with homemade tortilla chips. Our order included spicy red and green salsas that gave our meals a nice kick. The bonus to all this - I ordered at the drive-thru!

So, if you’re staying in the Blanco area and need something to take that edge off a long day of drinking wine, beer, and whiskey, give El...

Great TexMex food, outstanding service in a clean and nicely decorated little restaurant and bar. Best Mexican food in Blanco! My wife and I have eaten there many times and the food is consistently spot-on! Yesterday I went there on my way to Canyon Lake for an early lunch and hit it again on my way home for an early dinner. I first had Potato and Chorizo Tacos with cheese w/ Chips and Salsa. Fantastic! I like my salsa hot. If you do too, just ask your server to bring out the hotter sauce and they will. On my way home I ordered the Chalupas and they were simply delicious!!! They also have another restaurant and bar in Johnson City with the same name. If you like TexMex Mexican food, this place is a...

Update: My family and I went there today for the second time after church and it was a mistake. The food was bad. The shrimp enchiladas were under cooked. The beans were worse than my mother-in-law’s! The service was bad too. The woman at the register did not say anything to me. No “how was your food?”, no “thank you”. NOTHING. She didn’t even look at me. At least the place was still cleaner than the restaurant across the street but that’s not enough anymore. I will never spend money here again.

This place was really good. My family and I enjoyed ourselves. The real rating is 4.5 stars. The missing half star would be for the texture of the rice (too soft) and the chips were on...

I think this is one of the only good Mexican places in the Blanco area. Very authentic and the service definitely speaks Spanish. There will always be Mexican music playing on the radio and the decor is very authentic Mexican also. The backs of the benches are embroidered with the El Agave logo. Each bench even has a little painting of a Mexican house or horse or some kind of nostalgic Mexican scene. The 1 lb barbacoa plate is our go to. It's the perfect flavor of barbacoa that you're used to and it can definitely be shared and split between 2 people. Parking is easy and the prices are very affordable for what you would expect these days. We typically walk out paying only $40.

This place deeeeeeeee-livers deeeeeeeeeeee-liciousness deeeeeeeeeeeee-rectly across the street from Blanco State Park. I was impressed the moment I sat down and munched some chips and salsa, my guess is both made in house. The wait is non-existent, I was able to sit eat and drink right away around 2 pm. Odd time, but hey, I'm an odd dude that loves good food. El Agave puts the flavor in f^#% yeah. I will return, i saw nachos on the menu so that'll be next.... my enchiladas were chicken, I know cheese is the way to go, but I do gringo most of the time. Would highly recommend the tamal plate, but you do you boo-boo. 10/10 a must recommend.
