This time I tried to post zero a star rating, but it made me give 1. I prefer to write reviews on restaurants/bars when I feel everyone needs to visit, but on this one I feel it is a SAVE you from my experience. I am a beer lover. I appreciate beer for it’s uniqueness, for this reason I am always going to pop into local places where I can try a local draft. If I ask a question and the bartender either doesn’t answer or blows me off I play it safe and order the Blonde. Today I did that. It was the first time ever I could not drink a Blonde. Texas Cannon Brewing has their process drawn out on the wall. It seemed quite interesting and I was totally excited. Even more so since they said they were kid friendly, they have a kid friendly menu and I have my Husband and son with me since we came in town today to enjoy the fabulous Blanco River State Park earlier today. Back to my point.. I ordered the their Blonde, a Sprite, and a water and showed myself to a table. The Blonde beer smelled so sour I almost couldn’t bring myself to try it. After I tried it, it left a slimy feel in my mouth. It was the WORST!! I had both my husband and 7 year old smell it. My son almost gagged and my husband who will eat literally anything told me to send it back. I sat and stared at this beer smelling it for another couple minutes until a waitress came by. The waitress was super friendly. I told her my grievance and asked if I could try the Texian listed in the Lager section and send the Blonde back. She took my barely sipped Blonde to the bartender and brought back the Texian, which wasn’t bad (forgettable at best). The bartender brought out our ticket for both the undrinkable Blonde, sprite, and Texian. I paid our tab and left a tip because our waitress was nice. Please save yourself the money and likely whatever poisoning is waiting on those who don’t realize a blonde beer has gone bad. Shame on you Texan Cannon Brewing for serving that and making me pay for it and my family sit in a restaurant where we had to swat flies the entire time we were there. Oh and we were there today July 1, 2022 4:00. Check your staff or owners, we were in just from Spring Branch and I can assure you we will tell all our friends to go to the park, 300 BBQ, Andalusia , but avoid your establishment at all cost! It cost me $13 and possible poisoning from spoiled beer, but hopefully I can keep anyone else from having...
Read moreI had the brisket quesadilla, which was very greasy although tasty and the tortilla was still crispy. I put a LOT of paper towels in the plate to soak up the grease and keep the tortilla crisp. The beans that came with were peppery and delicious. My husband has the Cannon dog, which he loved ("give it 5 stars!"). The atmosphere was clean, but nothing special. What stood out was the lack of interest the two older women servers had in actually doing their jobs. They spent most of the time talking to each other behind the bar, showing each other stuff on their phones. The shorter of the older women was personable when she came to take our order, but the taller one wouldn't look at us when we walked in except to stare at us with a blank expression while we waited for some sign as to how things worked there (she finally asked me if I wanted a menu and brought me one--my husband was in the restroom -- put it on the high table near me without looking at me and was gone before I could ask if we should seat ourselves. When my husband joined me standing there looking at the menu, he caught her eye and asked if we should seat ourselves, she grunted an affirmative. Later both of them came to our table, and the shorter one asked if we'd chosen a drink, as soon as my husband said his choice, the taller one walked off to get it (mine came several minutes later). If the place had been busy and they'd been working, the slowness and neglect would have been perfectly acceptable, but it wasn't and they weren't. Maybe it was because we weren't locals? But there were a couple of other tables that received similar treatment as far as I saw. There was a younger server who these two also mostly ignored while she worked another table and kept fairly busy.
The food and beers were good enough that we'll try this place again. Maybe it was just...
Read moreI'm visiting Blanco and decided to give this place a try. The food was excellent, and the beer selection was good. I had the smoked brisket sandwich and tater tots. The brisket was tender, and the barbecue was just tangy enough for my liking. The tater tots were freshly made and not soggy like some restaurants. The beers I chose were very different from each other. The best of the 4 by far was a surprise to me after reading the description. El Hefe had a full flavor, good fizz, and a nice smooth finish. Who knew banana and clove would taste great in a beer!? I even left with a growler to take home! My second was the Canon Stout. The flavor was bold, with good chocolate overtones. I know my husband would like it. Next up was Ranger Rye. I don't normally care for a piney taste, and that came through on my tastebuds. The other two of the IPA & Hoppy category were unavailable, or I would have tried one of those. Last on the list of four was a lighter golden lager called The Texian. If that's what you enjoy, then you may like this one. I prefer a fuller bodied beer with unique flavors. The restaurant area was comfortable, a bit rustic, and they had great music playing. The waitstaff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, and there was a steady stream of people coming in for the bar or to pick up takeout orders. I would definitely recommend trying this place out! I know...
