Amazing restaurant! My parents and I went there yesterday as an early Mother's Day celebration. The most important reason we decided to eat at Uptown Blanco was because we learned there were NO enforcements for self-suffocating, bacteria-laden face diapers (aka masks) or ridiculous social-distancing protocol (of which both have 75+ years of controlled studies from numerous well-known universities and organizations proving they do NOT stop virus transmissions). Thank the Lord for a business that has common sense and reason!
Aside from that, the food was absolutely delicious. Everything had fresh ingredients and all hot food came out as intended: HOT! I was amazed by how much I loved the lemon-herb vinaigrette with my house salad and my mom was equally happy with it on hers. My dad tried the soup of the day and we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat in the gumbo. All three of us got the oven-baked chicken with a honey glaze and we were all in awe of how tender the meat was and how well the honey glaze worked with the perfectly made mashed potatoes (creamy, garlicky, and perfectly salted). I kind of regretted substituting the mashed potatoes for the sweet potato fries because of how well the flavors of the chicken and mashed potatoes blended together; however, I was amazed by the amount of fries I had received. Most restaurants are skimpy with sweet potato fries, but not this one! There is no list of desserts on the menu, but our waitress asked, then provided the available options, so my mom ordered the slice of New York cheesecake with the traditional drizzle of raspberry sauce. The dessert wasn't super sweet, so it was the perfect ending to one of the most amazing lunches we've had in awhile.
It was a little less expensive than we were expecting for such a nice place, too. This restaurant is not [super] cheap, but it's entirely worth the money to go there because of the delicious food, friendly staff, quick service, and no illegal restrictions (because they followed our Texas governor's orders). On a side note, we arrived at about 12:45 PM on a Saturday, a little over an hour before the first closing time.
As a final note for this essay of a review (which I think this restaurant totally deserves), the historical interior of the building was astonishingly beautiful. The bathrooms were more modern and eye-opening. You'll understand if you go inside!
And to you, Uptown Blanco Restaurant, my parents and I sincerely thank you for not enforcing ridiculous, fascist restrictions that the Texas governor already rescinded quite awhile ago. We really want to come back soon and hopefully...
Read moreWow! Had saved this restaurant as a place to try on Google Maps and went in NYE. It was way better than expected! The menu is outstanding. I had the chicken fried steak and it was best I'd ever had, by a long shot. The cut of meat (I forgot to ask which cut, but it was definitely NOT the usual cube steak) was tender, cooked perfectly and the batter was light and not greasy. The country, white gravy was the way its supposed to be. Though the boccolini was a little undercooked (for a change), the mashed potatoes were as good as my wife's. And hers are perfect. She had the pistachio encrusted lamb chops and THEY were also as good as you can get. They also actually had Samuel Smith Taddy Porter, which I hadn't seen in years, and it's the best Porter out there. AND, the waiter, think hus name was Darius, was outstanding as well, even. Very helpful with wine selection, offered to get a case of the Samuel Smith if we wanted, and great sense of humor. Really tried to encourage and add to our fun (it WAS NYE, afterall). Then, when we were leaving, gave us a tour of the complex, which was a very nicely renovated historic building, now a restaurant with venue areas. I'm glad we live within 15 minutes of this restaurant. A little expensive for us, but you get more than you pay for. I don't review many places, but this is definitely worthy...
Read moreSo we went on June 7th to have lunch there because we heard amazing things about this restaurant. We are from SA and drove 1 hr to get there.
We enter and the hostess asked us if we had reservations, we said “no” and she told us the wait time was 15min, we said fine and gave my name. Then, as we waited I notice more and more people were coming in without reservations and she told them the same thing. Then, I checked my watch and 45min have passed and notice a party of 3 coming in WITHOUT reservations and she sat them immediately, I went up to her to asked her what was going on? Her reply was “where were you sitting, I didn’t see you!” OMG like if it was my fault!! We were sitting next to the front desk. I told her, we are waiting for almost 45min and I just noticed you sat a party of 3 without reservations before us!
I have never felt so ignored by a hostess! I still wanted to give them a good review but our food was not so good. We both ordered the Chicken Friend Steak but it was salty!
The hostess needs more training in how to be polite to customers. I never felt more ignored in my life than today. She didn’t even call my name or make sure I was still in the restaurant after 45min of waiting!
I will NOT come...
