Hanna's Bakery & Dessert Shop — Restaurant in Bloomingdale

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!

We had a mishap with our own cake so we had to toss it and I desperately called hoping a bakery could help us out last min. They were the first to say yes and were not too far. HUGE MISTAKE!

First, the woman who answered the call didn’t speak English well and wasn’t understanding my order so I made to sure specify in detail what I wanted multiple times. I wanted a traditional red velvet cake, with cream cheese icing, absolutely no decoration on the cake, minimalist, and Happy Birthday written on the board. I said “no decoration”, “cream cheese icing”, “do not use that other icing” (she first told me it didn’t have cream cheese icing and whatever icing she said I told her absolutely no), “no decoration”, and “minimalism” multiple times. She then handed me to someone else who I repeated the same instructions to be very clear what I wanted. I thanked them for being a le to help save the day last min and we set a pickup time.

I show up the next day and out walks cake with red crumble all over it. I told her that wasn’t what I ordered, repeated AGAIN what I wanted and she brought it back to be fixed.

Out walks my fixed cake along with a woman who pokes her head out to tell complain to me how they priced the cake incorrectly (it was more for less work?) as if I made that mistake. I said that was fine I’ll pay the difference and she just said it was information for next time. They then show me the instructions they wrote down, to complain I made the mistake on the cake, as if I wasn’t clear what I wanted, and all they wrote down was the word “traditional”. Fine whatever I had the cake now I needed to go.

It gets WORSE! We cut open the cake to eat it and, sure the center icing had some cream cheese flavor, but it was a custard! It had a thick gelatinous texture. And to top it off, the icing on the outside was the icing I was very clear we did not want. The combination of the two icings was disgusting! We all took a bite or two and couldn’t eat it. We honestly would have been better off eating the cake that got ruined out of the garbage it tasted that bad.

I can’t stress this enough, DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!! They are awful and the cakes DO...

First, I'll give credit where credit is due. Their pastries are delicious, and absolutely beautiful. It's clear they have high standards for their work.

It's just a shame they don't have those same standards when it comes to customer service.

I went in with some family members a few weeks ago to see if I could have someone help me with a wedding cake. We walked in and a young woman greeted us in Polish. When our greeting was in English, she apparently decided she didn't want to help.

Anyway, I asked her about wedding cakes, and she proceeds to hand me a binder with pictures, has me sit at a small table, and she walks away. And never returns. Instead, she goes to help other Polish speaking customers and ignores me completely.

I am flipping through pictures, assuming she'll stop by and ask me if I have any questions ....or better yet, as in standard practice, actually take the time to give me some details. Nope.

I just get up and walk away. Meanwhile my family is buying some smaller desserts (might as well, we're already there). In retrospect, no one should have given Hanna's any money, but hey...you never regret good food, I suppose.

Kind of surprising someone wouldn't care enough to make a sale of a wedding cake, which are pricier items. I may not be Polish, but money is green! Surprised they don't teach their employees that.

Fortunately I immediately found another bakery nearby that was actually very friendly and professional and more than happy to provide details on their cakes. I should also note this bakery greeted everyone the same way when they stepped in, as everyone should .

Won't be back to Hanna's, ever....

We bought a soup in this store and it gave us food poisoning. On the plastic containers was no date when the soup was made nor there was an expiration date. We became sick approximately 6 hours after consuming the soup for dinner. Now it is a second day , dealing with range of food poisoning symptoms and missing a day at work because my symptoms were so severe. Very expensive soup( as it turns out ) on many levels. To my disappointment (baked stuff are really tasty) I will never buy from this store again, and will be paying them a visit. I truly like to see what if any responsibility will be taken by the owner.

My response to the owner: Yes, we are absolutely sure we got sick from your soup, not anywere else. It was a chicken soup and In fact I know for sure because we shared the meat with our dog and he got sick with diarrhea as well. We came home on Monday evening and everything was pooped because he had several accidents throughout the day. On that Sunday I only ate food from your store, nothing else , we did not eat out that weekend nor visited any other restaurant. I'm 100% sure the soup was not cooked on Sunday, I was shoping there in the morning, it had to be soup from day before, possibly earlier. Maybe it was left to cool down overnight in room temperature and stored in fridge later. Thank you for your responce and advice , I'm awaiting your call, your staff...
