I have eaten at most Chinese restaurants in Bloomington and this is (still) the best in town. That’s not saying much because Bloomington leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to Chinese cuisine. I have gone here for years, but recently ownership changed and I noticed degradation in both the food quality and the quality of service. I would have given 5 stars prior to things being changed. The previous employees knew me by my orders and I could make special requests and they would always get my order right. I remember a time they actually reminded ME that I forgot to order something and they fixed it when I came to pickup. Since the ownership changed there have been several times my order was not as requested or items were missing and I didn’t find out until I got home. I recommend checking to make sure you have your correct and complete order before leaving with takeout. As for as food quality, they changed the egg rolls and they are not very good now, just OK. The wonton egg drop soup tastes different. I think the wontons were changed as well. That was my son’s favorite thing there and now he doesn’t really care to order it. The House Special Boneless Chicken was the most disappointing change. It used to have a really good breading and texture, but now it does not. As a premium menu item they should not have changed this. It completely ruins this dish and I will no longer order it. The food items that haven’t been changed (so far) are still quite good, like Chicken w/Broccoli, Shrimp Fried Rice, General Tso’s chicken, and Cashew Shrimp, just to name a few of my favorites. You will get a hearty portion for the price paid, so it’s a good value overall. If you’re not expecting gourmet authentic Chinese, and you like fast food Americanized type Chinese, you should be pretty satisfied with...
Read moreVery nice spot for some quick and tasty Chinese!
Had a random thought yesterday evening about not having eaten some fried rice in quite some time, and decided to remedy that. Ended up being very glad that I did, as I chose Dragon to be the first Chinese restaurant I tried since moving to Indiana. Easy to get to, and close to my place, so it was already the top contender for me.
I went with a dinner combo, nothing elaborate, General Chicken.
Didn't realize until I'd gotten inside and pretty much knew what I wanted that they don't take debit/credit cards, (only local checks aside from cash,) but I had enough cash for the dinner combo + tip so everything still worked out. Bonus: this kept me from trying to get some of all my favorites on my first trip so now I have a reason to come back very soon.
The chicken was cooked perfectly - still nice and hot by the time I managed to get back home about 10 minutes away, and a bit more heat/spice to it than I'm used to with General Chicken, a very welcome surprise.
My food was prepared and cooked quickly, and the guy at the counter was friendly. The only reason I won't be giving the full 5 stars is because of the "cash/check only" policy. I dislike carrying cash if I can avoid it, but will have to keep at least $10 or so on me from here on out in case I decide I want to go back for crab Rangoon and maybe this time shrimp and broccoli... Despite my rating only being 4/5 stars - keep in mind it's not from the food or service, and I'll definitely...
Read moreWe were so disappointed in this place. I wanted to like it and they had a really good takeout menu. But their menu says no MSG. So when I placed my order, I went to pick it up and asked just to make sure. I found out that they have MSG in almost everything (all premade sauces and fried rices). They remade my food with just white rice and the one meat that they had that did not have MSG. However, I still got very very sick as it obviously had MSG in something. Even my husband, who is not very sensitive to it, also got very sick for a couple of days with headaches and nausea from the food. We will not be returning. Also, FYI, it is a cash only or check only restaurant. It was not very clean in the kitchen and I...
