Today, Memorial Day 2018, I ate lunch at Chow Daddy's in Bluffton, SC, with my two grown daughters. I had never been there before, but my daughters had and seemed to think it would be a place we where we would enjoy a casual lunch. NOT! The service was somewhat slow, despite the fact the restaurant was far from busy. Eventually, our orders arrived. I had ordered a BBQ sandwich and fries. My daughters each got fish tacos. First, let me start with the BBQ sandwich .... it was so hideously, malignantly overly sweet that it could not be eaten. Not sure whose recipe they used for the BBQ sauce but it was WAY WAY WAY too SWEET. Too make matters even worse, instead of dill pickles (which is traditionally served with Southern BBQ pork, they used SWEET pickles, which compounded the sweet issue problem and made the BBQ sandwich all the more repulsive. Where is Chef Gordon Ramsey when you need him? Now, the fries. Remarkably, French fries do not come with a sandwich entree at Chow Daddy's. You have to order them separately, and it is another charge to your bill. An order of French Fries is, I believe, $2.99. For that, I was expecting a nice substantial order of, perhaps, fresh cut potatoes, in a sufficient amount for my two daughters to enjoy as well. NOT! When I saw the order of French Fries the server unapologetically delivered to my table, I was shocked. It was nothing more than standard cooked-from-frozen shoestring potatoes, identical to what you would get at Steak & Shake (free with your burger), in such a paltry amount, I was stunned! The fries were served in a tiny custard bowl and I'm guessing there were probably 10-15 poorly cooked French fries, total, in that bowl, along with a paper cup containing ketchup, that's it. Not enough French fries for even one person, and for $2.99! UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVEABLE!! My daughters both ordered fish tacos and both of their orders were poorly cooked and poorly served. Both tacos were so soggy when they arrived at our table that neither of my daughters could eat them. They literally fell apart in their hands. In addition, the fish had an off-taste that was very displeasing. We eventually asked for our check and left, with our food on the table. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that once our server delivered our food, that was the last we saw of him until we asked for our check. It was only then that he offered to refill our water glasses. In summary, it was a total waste of $50 and I can assure you that neither myself nor my two daughters will ever again darken the doors of Chow Daddy's in Bluffton, SC. NOT...
Read moreYou will want to hear this! First the service wasn't that great.(waiter) anywho we didn’t order much, can’t help the restaurant was little pricey (first time going) we didn’t ask the waiter for anything more then what we ordered. Cleaned the mess to make sure we didn’t leave any mess. When leaving (my husband, I and our toddler,) the waiter Luke approaches me , not my husband, and says “did i not do a good job, I was confused so I said yeah you do, then he proceeds to say,”well the tip you left (assuming it was I that left it not my husband) “wasn’t a good tip, you see the price you paid but the tip you left” , I said um okay? Then left because I was so shocked. I’m giving the place four stars because of Luke’s rude, unprofessional, and passive aggressiveness. He could of been a “man” with the nerve that he had asked me , and not my husband. Anywho I did call the restaurant (end up calling the wrong one because I was unaware there were two) the manger there at Hilton was amazing was very sorry, and said he’d call the manager at bluffton and that he’d refund our food. The other manager from bluffton was also very sorry and said Luke would be receive actions. I didn’t call for a refund but I just wanted Luke to have consequences because it was very out of line. He could of asked about how he did but for the passive aggressive and disrespect, and asking the women instead of my husband, especially because I had my hands full and my toddler in my arms. it was uncalled for and very unprofessional. But to say all this , I applaud the two mangers I spoke with for really showing remorse and taking it serious. I really hope Luke is spoken to so he doesn’t try that again. But I am thankful for the feed back from the management, they were very respectful, professional, and...
Read moreVery disappointed in the management of this location. A few months back we decided to order take out due to Covid and had an unpleasant experience. While awaiting our to go order at the bar, we decided to have a drink. Our bar tender was very pleasant but experienced a medical event (low blood sugar) and required medical attention by the paramedics. Understandably she had forgotten to order our food so we inquired after 45 minutes and a waitress was kind enough to order it. However when she delivered it to us at the bar a cockroach climbed out of the bag. The waitress witnessed this and told her manager. He asked us to let them know next time we’d like a to go order and our salad would be free.
Fast forward to today. I called from the car to order the salad and the woman answering the phone actually remembered both incidents. She put me on hold to speak to the manager to place the n/c order and after several minutes he finally picked up and said he knew nothing about it and “wasn’t about to give me a free salad.” We (were) regular customers and have been so for 5 years since we moved to HH. He was argumentative and refused to check with the woman who answered my call. He also refused to take my order saying “he didn’t like my anger” and said I could order my salad on line for regular price - and when I explained I was calling from the car and could not go on line he hung up on me. Our office orders to go often during the work week and sometimes from Chow Daddy’s. For the price of a salad this will end. There are plenty of other options in Hilton Head these days where management knows how to...
