I have NEVER been so disappointed with a restaurant in my life! After phoning various restaurants in town to treat my husband to a lobster dinner for his birthday, I decided to choose Loch Bar. The gentleman who answered the phone said that this Monday, April 1st which was my husband's birthday, was actually Lobster Monday and the 1 1/2 lobster meal was $55 instead of $65. It was nice but the important thing was that they had full lobsters on the menu instead of just lobster tails. The hostess was very accommodating and since it was a lovely early afternoon we chose to sit outdoors at a high top. She said we could sit anywhere we liked. The entire restaurant was empty but then again it was only 3PM. Matt, our server, informed us right from the start that there was no discount on the lobster dinners only the lobster rolls. No big deal but that isn't what we were told when we first called. We ordered an artichoke appetizer and it came out with lumps of melted butter in each quarter so we had them take it back and give us one without butter because there was no mention of butter. My husband ordered the lobster dinner. We had to ask for some bread and we also ordered the grilled asparagus appetizer which was okay. Matt was attentive to our needs and he chatted with us for a few seconds. I mentioned to him that my husband was a retired chef and he was really looking forward to this lobster dinner since I hated him cooking lobsters at home. The lobster came out ICE COLD! My husband asked for the manager and JEFF, the manager of 3 days, came out to speak with us. My husband explained to him that this must have been a leftover lobster from yesterday stored in the refrigerator and then dipped in hot water for a few minutes. He asked JEFF to touch the lobster and he was basically speechless and agreed. Then he asked my husband if he would like another one. My husband said absolutely not since he mentioned he was a chef and knew that any other one would probably also be in the refrigerator as well just waiting to be dropped into hot water. He wasn't interested in eating leftover lobsters. JEFF didn't seem to care at all. We then asked for a check from Matt, added a tip and left. As I mentioned before, the restaurant was totally empty at this hour and you would think they would care even a little bit. JEFF does not seem to be management oriented. He came across as though he couldn't care less! The entertainer, Sara Ann, who was singing indoors, waited till I was seated to sing Happy Birthday to my husband before we left. She was so sweet and entertaining. It could have been a perfect afternoon but we now had to go find somewhere else to eat! Don't waste your time here! There are so many other restaurants that have quality food, excellent staff/customer service and management that...
Read moreI want to share my honest feedback on our recent experience at Loch Bar tonight. We chose to dine there because we were attending a show at the Mizner amphitheater and didn't want to move our vehicles from the shopping center. We had made reservations at both Kapow and Loch Bar, but now I regret not going to Kapow instead.
Although Loch Bar used to be a solid seafood restaurant and raw bar when we last visited four years ago, it seems to be resting on its laurels now and is still quite expensive compared to other seafood restaurants in the area. We ordered a few appetizers, including the Oysters Rockefeller. I remember enjoying it four years ago, so I ordered it again. However, the oysters were very skimpy and lacked the spinach that they were supposed to have. We sent them back, and they returned with a little bit more spinach, but the ones from four years ago looked better. I have a photo for comparison. The server claimed they were Apalachicola oysters from Florida.
I also ordered a poke tuna appetizer, but the texture was unpleasing due to the way it was cut into large chunks. We ordered the crab deviled toast, but it was not as impressive as we had hoped. It was more of a crab salad on top of toast points. The only dish that we all enjoyed was the special scallops with bacon jam. I could have easily eaten two or three plates of those if I had known the other dishes would be disappointing.
Rachel liked her grouper sandwich, and James seemed to enjoy his fish. However, the fries that came with both dishes were not crispy and appeared to be reheated. We sent them back and got better fries.
Given the restaurant's status in Mizner, which is Boca's premier shopping and dining plaza, I expected more from Loch Bar. We visited on a Sunday night at 8 PM, and the restaurant was about 90% empty. More attention could have been paid during slower hours. It's worth noting that all of our complaints are regarding the food from the back of the house, not the waitstaff. Despite the manager's honest attempt to apologize (the oyster app and two drinks were comped), I was still disappointed with the...
Read moreMizner has a good assortment of restaurants with some being mediocre to some be fantastic. I'm happy to say that Loch bar falls into the fantastic category. I love seafood and whiskey/bourbon so I had high hopes for this place. I am happy to say I was not disappointed in the slightest.
To start, let's talk about the food. Every dish we ordered was fresh and absolutely delicious. I highly reccomend the crab dip as a starter as it was cheesy and full of flavor. Loch bar has an impressive raw bar so I ordered a selection of oysters from both east and west coast and was very impressed at the freshness and quality. Our main dishes came out quickly and maintained the level of quality our appetizers had. The shrimp and grits are comfort food at its finest with a slightly upscale twist.
The drinks and drink menu were very impressive. A good amount of seasonal cocktails and beer on tap. The A1A was great and I reccomend it if you love a less sweet cocktail. Wine list was large enough but the real allure is the whiskey, bourbon and scotch menu. Very extensive and reasonably priced.
Now to the service. Our servers name was Dominic and if you find yourself at Loch bar with him I can confidently say you are in great hands. He was extremely friendly and informative about the menus. Any question we had, be it wine or seafood related, he was able to answer simply and without confusion. At one point he even offered us a free pour of the house bourbon from a very peculiar bottle that was good and incredibly generous. You could visibly see management helping and checking on tables which I always appreciate.
My only advice would be to keep up the quality and service. I look forward to coming back to Loch bar, be it a date night with my Fiancee or just a...
