I stopped into CJ's as I'd never been there before but have driven by it for years, always with the thought, "One day I gotta try that place."
And then I did.
I've tried only three things there but multiple times each: Egg salad sandwich, Chicken Walnut salad, and a breakfast burrito. When asked what I'd like on the sandwich, for it's usually lettuce, tomato, and onion. There are a few other toppings but I keep it somewhat simple.
The owner is usually there to greet you which makes it that much more charming. With the added atmosphere of the decorations, it's almost... magical to me.
I usually always get one of the two homemade soups they have to offer which are very tasty; if you get a sandwich, I fully recommend picking a soup to go with.
Lastly, the pies. Oh mylanta the pies. I guarantee if you peek at that window, you're walking out with a slice and by all means you should and need to. I usually can't eat it after the soup and sandwich but I save it for after dinner. You won't regret it. Even if your dinner is a cup of ramen, that pie will be like a splinter in your mind. Then you'll eat it. Bliss.
If you've driven by them for years like I have, do yourself a favor. Park, walk in, say"Hi" to the owner, who always has a smile, and get yourself a tasty bite. You will...
Read moreI previously wasn't going to comment but I find the owner's response to my husband's review concerning.
I went there for lunch a few days ago. I went to the bathroom and I came back to find my drink had been thrown out. An honest mistake and truly not a big deal. The owner suggested they dig in the trash and rinse off my drink. As a food business one would think that someone would be more mindful of food sanitation. If your employee is putting on gloves to touch trash why would I willingly drink something from the trash? Putting on gloves shows me you understand trash is dirty. If it's too dirty for you to touch, why is it fine for me to drink from? My husband posted a review about what happened and the owner made it seem like I was the problem because I closed the door when I went to the bathroom & didn't notify them I was going to the bathroom. She also cites my "reaction" as if I was yelling/flipping chairs. Yes, I was disappointed. I'm pregnant and find it concerning that a place that just served me food would then try to convince me to consume something from the trash. It makes me question their food sanitation processes overall. I think the justifications being made by the owner of the deli are...
Read moreI have always had very good experiences at CJ's Deli but I really feel like I need to express my disappointment for the entire salad that I had to throw in the trash. I got the Asian Chicken Salad. The great news it that the salad itself looked great! The lettuce was fresh, and the onion was very flavorful so I can tell it was freshly cut. The chicken was also fresh but the portion size in comparison to the salad was quite disappointing. My two complaints are about the wonton wrappers and the dressing. The wrappers tasted like they were soaked in oil which tells me that the oil they were fried in was probably too low. They were somewhat crunchy but more oily and soggy than anything. Now the WORST part. The dressing. The dressing was so sickeningly sweet that I couldn't even finish the salad. I wish I would have tasted the dressing before covering my salad with it. I hope CJ's reads these reviews and I do hope they will take the time to look at the recipe for this salad dressing. Maybe it was an off day because I really don't think they intended for the dressing to be this sweet. Everything it touched was super sticky so I just know there is a ton of sugar in it. Couldn't stomach it....
