1st time at Capone's Saturday at 3pm. I was only one of maybe 8 customers in the entire place. This was one of worst exp of my eating career. The place was dirty; from debris on the floor to crumbs on most of the tables, etc . Its a self serve joint so there is no customer service to speak of. Actually someone does deliver your food and she was pleasant. As for the pizza it was just gross. When I go to a new place I order something basic to see if in the future its worth ordering something more substantial. For example if its Mexican and the tacos suck, well I can't trust them to do fajitas if they can't get their basic offering correct. As for pizza, if you can't make a good plain cheese pizza, well why would i get any of the pastas or specialty pies, etc.
So I got the NY Super Cheese. The crust was dry & chewy and absolutely came out of a box of pre-made crust. No one can tell any different! Some frozen pizza in the grocery store have better than this. The sauce was tasteless and anyone who knows pizza knows the sauce makes the pie; then the crust, then the cheese. So now the cheese was suppose to be five different types( or maybe four- it doesn't really matter) but was one color/appearance,,,? Meaning different cheeses melt slightly differently on a pizza. Ever so slightly but you can still tell. Now the kicker was it had an overwhelming taste of blue cheese which (even though I knew it was one of them) I failed to really see. Almost as if it were some sort of chemical that mimics the blue cheese taste.. It was just gross! Domino's black box pizza blows this out of the water just to throw out a low level comparison. I didn't finish it, I just paid and left. It made me kinda sad thought because to this date, I still haven't found a good pizza place anywhere from Wilkesboro to Boone to Lenoir, etc...
Yes I'm from the North and I feel so badly for the people around this area that will never taste good food. Well there is good food in the Boone area but pizza ain't one of em..
If you like just regular overpriced pizza please give them a try. If you have higher standards then keep...
Read moreAs a guest traveling through Boone, I visited Capones for dinner. Greeted by two employee who seemed disinterested, asked if I wanted carry out or dining in. I answered that I would be dining in. After making a menu selection, I sat at my table for 20 minutes while staff walked by multiple times and said nothing, until finally another local patron came to my table to advise I need to go to the front counter to place my order. No staff had told me that. I followed the directions of the customer. I asked the staff at the counter why nobody would have shared those details. The young lady was very rude, thought I was at a different table and told me she had made those instructions known to table 40. I was at table 30. She placed my order with her sarcasm. Snarky. I asked about the bar which there had been no bartender present at all. The employee said they had a bartender and pointed to the person that had literally just walked to the bar that moment and said they had been there the whole time. She was the least helpful and clearly bothered by customers present. She just wanted to be argumentative. The food was good but far from great. I was quite disappointed with the level of customer service. Doesn’t align with my experiences at other businesses in Boone. Sad. I never plan on returning since they clearly didn’t seem to be interested in me as a customer. I will note that the restaurant was extremely slow, only a few tables occupied. Not busy at all. Staff sitting around chatting with not much to do. So it’s not a result of short staffing at all, at least not...
Read moreWe’ve tried Capone’s several times- really hoping things would improve. Unfortunately, they still do not have servers, so upon entering the restaurant, you are given a menu then told to come back & order at the counter? Yet the entire dining room is open for seating.. Someone does bring your food to the table, but service ends there. Drinks, silverware, etc are self-serve. So why is it they ask if you want to leave a tip? You pay at the counter when you leave, and the manager at the counter asks if you want to leave a tip, for the cook or whomever? Seriously? Pay your workers more or something? Even for take-out pizzas, they’ll ask if you want to leave a tip? The salad bar IS open, and is $10 for a larger plate, $5 for a small plate. One time we were told it was $10 for the salad bar, and any return trips would be counted as an additional salad. (?) Food is okay- large pizza runs around $24 I think, and the XL is $29 (excluding any additional toppings).. The last time we went, the music was -uggh- NOT over-40 friendly. Atmosphere COULD be cozy, but it isn’t. Just don’t understand the whole concept now- prior to COVID- they did have servers and were busier. Now, we are usually one of maybe 3 tables inside. There’s also a bar, but no clue if it’s open anymore? No one is ever monitoring it. Such an...
