After arriving we were asked to put masks on, which is no problem at all. We were a large group and some people had already been seated. A few people in our group didn’t have a mask on them so we asked the hostess if they had any extra paper masks- she told us no and it was clear she was already getting irritated with us. Some of our group was already seated, so one person with a mask walked over to get the keys to their car so we could continue looking for a mask. We come back in after we all have masks. We are standing by the front door ready to be seated with the rest of our group, all wearing masks and ready. The same hostess we’ve been working with this whole time runs over to us and starts aggressively shouting at us- “Are you all sharing masks!?” We replied with no, we all have a mask. She then walked over to the part of our group, already seated, who all had masks and started accusing them of sharing masks. This is all so crazy to me because all around us there are people everywhere walking through the restaurant without masks. No one seated is wearing a mask. I mean seriously, the hostess herself was not wearing her mask properly. It was hanging beneath her nose and so loose it was pointless. She then told us she was “kicking us out” because we were making a scene. The only one making a scene was her. Yelling at us, running back and forth and obviously in our panic. She said the owner was not in and that she was in charge. She was clearly not fit to be left in charge and had trouble handling this small situation which arised after she accused us of something we didn’t do, then kicked us out after we all clearly had a mask on. I’ve been coming to Troy’s for years, but this was my last time. I fully understand the importance of wearing masks in public areas and restaurants, but to be so blatantly disrespected, yelled at by this girl and refused service (as we all have masks) for literally no reason is upsetting. I guess I won’t...

To kick things off, we start with this retro-style diner serving up delicious comfort food, from your classic breakfast plates to late-night bites like patty melts.
The Food: I ordered the Razzle Dazzle - sirloin tips, three eggs (scrambled), hash browns, and an English muffin. The portion size was very generous, especially for breakfast. The flavor? The steak tips were tender, and the eggs were fluffy - more folded and firm, like on a flattop, than scrambled. The hash browns were delicious - the tops were crispy, but the bottom side was on the soggy side. My lovely wife ordered the Little Cuz, which is biscuits and gravy, one egg, one strip of bacon, and one sausage patty (links available). The bacon or sausage wasn’t anything standout, but it was nice and crispy. The biscuit seemed sort of dry, but the gravy saved the dish. It was a nice combination of buttery and sweet but still peppery. We recommend utilizing the sausage patty to beef up the sausage gravy, as it was a bit weak on the sausage.
The Service: We arrived around 8:30 on a Monday morning. It wasn’t crowded, and we were seated instantly. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered soon after being seated and received our food before 9 a.m. Despite being quick, it felt relaxed - nice for a Monday morning!
Ambiance: Retro booths, neon signs, Elvis and Marilyn Monroe-covered walls - it definitely feels like stepping back in time. Clearly, a place where locals would stand by loyally, but where tourists should make a definite point to visit as well.
Location: Right off 105 near App State campus. Convenient location, but 105 isn’t the easiest road to turn onto, so keep that in mind. Parking is easy; it’s not difficult to...
Read moreI just woke up from a horrible nightmare. I was sitting around with friends and family deciding what we wanted to eat. Someone suggested Troy’s and everyone jumped on board. One person was unfamiliar with the menu so I went through all my favorite dishes in great detail. The Chubby Checker’s fried chicken filet, country fried steak/chicken, Flo’s Frenchie and of course their delicious hamburgers and so much more. I decided on a juicy hamburger with their super tasty french fries. Got everyone’s picks, ordered and showed up at the restaurant… And then I woke up. The reason this is a nightmare and not just an idea for lunch is that I am in Italy where I’ve been and lived for the last one and a half years. I’m surrounded by good food, but not Troy’s food.
Since I haven’t been there in over a year and a half this is an old review, but I doubt they’ve changed since I’ve been there.
Troy’s is awesome! I worked two doors down from them and ate there at least twice a week for years (mainly take out). Everything on the menu is delicious. All the meals are filling and most importantly to me everything is always consistent. Probably the most consistent restaurant in Boone. The staff and the owner (who is usually sitting at the bar) are always nice and welcoming to me and any other patron who walks through the door.
I miss a lot about Boone, but Troy’s 105 Diner is definitely at the top of the list. If you’re looking for some good American style eats, look no further.
Thank you Troy’s for all the amazing meals throughout the years. I hope to visit Boone soon and make my...
