Extremely disappointed. It was my birthday today and my husband is going through cancer. We wanted a special place to create a beautiful memory and my best friend and her husband came from Texas to eat at the very special Saltgrass. We hadn't been there in a long time and we are Landry members, so Justin came by at the beginning to say he was there if we needed anything.
Sadly, many things went wrong and became a disaster. I didn't even want cake by the end. I just wanted it to be over.
First of all, it was warm and stuffy in the restaurant. We asked the waitress if it could be made a little cooler, and she suggested we ask the manager. Apparently, she had already been asking him, to no avail. We called Justin (head honcho) over and he said he turned it down. But it never got cooler. I told him later that I stopped fanning, I guess because so many other problems took my attention.
We never got our salads. Our meals just appeared all of a sudden and we had never gotten salad first. My friend had ordered prime rib, but a thin overcooked ribeye showed up. Prime rib was on the online menu, but they didn't carry prime rib any more (I had taken a screen shot of it since I was trying to decide what to order ahead of time - I showed Justin what their present day menu had and he exclaimed that they don't carry many of those items anymore and would work on the wrongly listed menu)
My friend had ordered medium rare and it was not that at all! It had gristle and was dry. Even when they went back and brought out another ribeye, we hated to complain, we were really trying to make the best of it, but it was HORRIBLE! Even my husband's porterhouse was quite thin! Their meat is cut too thin to be able to cook very rare at all. The other manager had come by too, but we felt them avoiding us. We had not been rude at all, but my friend did not want to pay for a very substandard meal. In fact, she had ordered loaded mashed potatoes and they had come out plain.
It just seemed to be one thing after another and they really didn't seem to care very much. If I were them, and I had a birthday table, I probably would have comped the whole meal, as miserable as the birthday girl obviously was.
I felt so bad for my bestest friend who was looking forward to a juicy steak and left, not only without her salad, but without a steak. She just ate a few potatoes and told them she should not be charged! (They were not offering to do so.)
Our waitress obviously was embarrassed to be working there, after witnessing all the problems and the feeble attempts to rectify. The managers interest waned after their futile attempt to correct anything. They were more interested in stopping the complaint than in making things better.
We will not be going back there. It was a sad occasion and we can definitely get better steaks elsewhere. They didn't even take the money we had left on a gift card off our total!
I'm not one to usually write reviews but I felt this was quite a bad experience that others may want to be aware of. If you want a quality steak, go to Texas Roadhouse! This certainly is NOT a nice place, nor worth the prices they charge.
If a ZERO rating had been available, that's what I would...
Read moreI want to start off by saying our waitress, BAILEY was phenomenal! She was very attentive, had a great attitude, fixed our appetizer immediately when it was missing something, and even complimented me on how great I looked. It’s very rare that we’re blown away by a waitress, but she’s definitely one of these few times. Great job, girl! Keep it up! 5/5
So far as the food goes, we were very unimpressed (especially considering how expensive our meal was)! We could’ve gotten way better food for literally half the price somewhere else. Appetizer- The bread was a bit hard to cut, but came with one of those sweet and warm whipped butters. The baked potato soup was a very odd consistency, spicy, and the chunks of potatoes were left so large that I needed a knife to cut them. The Cesar salad was average. Queso tasted good, but came out cold and missing the brisket. 3/5 Dinner- My filet was about the only thing that tasted good. However, I ordered it “medium and it was definitely given to me “rare”. The mashed potatoes were not whipped- but this weird baked dish that had bacon on it. It was also cold and very day. The macaroni and cheese side was just.. off. I think they used a lighter cheese than what you’re suppose to. The only other item that was good was a piece of grilled shrimp on top of his steak. 2/5 considering we paid $30 per entrée. Drinks- both of ours needed to be mixed. The presentation was very pretty, but the drinks themselves were just alright. About $9 for a mixed drink each. 3/5 Overall- unimpressed. We also thought this would be a fancy restaurant for date night. We even dressed up a bit, only to see other customers in sweats and with screaming children. In reality, it’s just a less rowdy Texas Roadhouse. Our friends said they were disappointed by this place, and they were right. We will not return because of the high price and low quality of food. I would honestly rate this place 2/5, but I’m giving it an extra star because of Bailey. I can’t emphasize enough how great she was. I wish the restaurant’s food was...
Read moreI went here with my girlfriend on 2/21/14 (Friday) while we were staying at a nearby hotel after doing some shopping at the boardwalk. The food was great and the service was great, our server was Mara. We both got drinks and they were both very good, she had chicken and shrimp and it was very delicious, my steak and potatoes were also very good. The food and service was not the problem, it was management and the way the run their business.
If you eat here and you pay with a CARD, CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT!
We were blatantly overcharged on our bill, our amount before tip was $66.52, we tipped $6.48 for a total bill of $73.00. When we checked the next day on the account we had a charge for $80.53 on our account. We were still in the boardwalk area doing some more shopping so we went by to talk to a manager at lunch time, we talked to Curtis who said that banks will automatically add 20% to the bill just in case... we knew that was not the case but did not want to cause a scene at lunch time in the lobby, he said if it is not fixed by Monday to call him.
We waited until Tuesday, it was still showing $80.53 on the account, we called the bank and the bank said that we were charged that amount outright by Saltgrass on that bill. I promptly called Saltgrass and informed the manager of this and he took the information that I had from the check and said that he would refund us the $8 or so. I am writing this today to say that it this has not has not happened yet, and if it still shows tomorrow, I will be calling them back again.
So, if you happen to eat at this restaurant and pay with a card, check your account. You could have gotten...
