This is largely service related.
Southie has a reputation for not being the most welcoming to people that look like me, but I choose to be positive & still visit the area despite having one-off experiences that are uncomfortable- like this one.
Yesterday I walked in to get a coffee before my nail appointment, and the gentleman behind the counter served two men ahead of me before completely ignoring my existence. I’ve worked service jobs before so I understand the tactic of not making eye contact to focus on your immediate tasks at hand before getting to the customer, but even then he could have at least said he’d be with me in a moment. I awkwardly paced back and forth for a solid 3-4 minutes, the only person in line, waiting for him to at least say something or even give a head nod, when his coworker clocked back in. This made sense, shift change maybe? But no he was still very much working, and even the coworker coming back from their break took a few moments to acknowledge me & assumed I’d been helped already (hmm- why hadn’t I?).
They were having a conversation while I was placing my order and when I asked if they accepted cash (which I had to awkwardly cut in on them talking) the guy stared at me like I was rude for interrupting them. I work in an office setting now but used to work in the industry so I understand the way things work & try to be understanding, but this felt so weird. The cherry on top was a group coming in after me and the associate who completely ignored me being chipper as all can be and asking them what he could make for them. I felt very small & invisible, and will never ever be back to this location. I’ll stick to Starbucks.
Two stars because even though I had horrid experience, I support food establishments in general after the rough time cov*d put the...
Read moreI only went in here to use the bathroom but I consider it proper decorum to buy something if you want to use the restroom. Thus, I bought a white mocha, which was somehow cheaper ordering in person than online. I tried to install the app and enter a promo code but it didn't work and because nature was calling, I just went up to the counter and ordered. The white mocha was refreshing and made the elongated lunch break more enjoyable. There is no "For here" or "To go." You will receive the same paper cup regardless of your plans. The best thing about this place was that they had the old style payment pad. Why is that of any significance? Nobody swings around the fancy Ipad, forcing you into making an awkward decision with a tablet. The old-fashioned tip jar makes checking out that much more of a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is pleasant. I like the classic view of Broadway and Southie in general. My only recommendation is the music. Seems like they picked a Spotify Playlist generically titled "Jazz Cafe." I have yet to find the place that plays those Lo-fi beats that go so well with some sip-action. This will probably be my go-to spot when I am working...
Read moreThat was the worse experience I ever had with a service, i decided to take my mother to eat at somewhere and we decided to go at that caffè nero, I was there at 2:20PM on the day 7/19/23, me and my mom were about to ask for a coffee and pastry, and the lady, said in a very rude way “I don’t have coffee. Do you want something else or do I need to make more coffee just for you?” . My mom didn’t understood and asked for her say it again, the lady rolled the eyes with a loud sigh and said again that she will need to make more coffe “just” for my mother. that was so unacceptable that we were in shock, I was already a coffee and pastry worker, I would NEVER deny what a costumer asked for, specially if was just to make more coffee, im sorry but you guys lost a client today, I’m never going back...
