First, I find it highly disturbing that in the drawer of the closet were two books: the Gideon Bible & Book of Mormon. We did not request such accommodations be provided. I felt the Marriott company was pushing upon our religious sensibilities by placing these books in the room without request by the customer. They did not provide any other religious options nor did they inform us we would find these books in our room.
The location is very convenient to the Boston Convention Center, Boston Common, The Lawn on the D, and Seaport District. Very short walks to any of those locations and public transit. Unfortunately, the convenience stores are not sufficient, so come prepared for any adult activities or the repercussions ahead of your stay. The hotel itself has a bar and Brazilian steakhouse on the ground floor.
The room itself is comfortable for any length of stay. The beds are fluffy and soft with plenty of feather pillows. The room has a master power switch at the door, bolt and bar security on the door, and an adjustable environmental control nearby. The room has a wall mounted television, alarm clock, bedside room light, desk with power outlets, small safe, ironing board and iron, hair dryer with accessories, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion, a petite brewing pot, ice bucket, and a small drink fridge. The storage comes in the form of a wall wardrobe with two drawers, shelves, and hangers. The television has access to standard Comcast cable channels.
Keeping PAX and Anime Boston in mind the double bed room we received could theoretically house four people on the beds and seven people on the floor with room to walk around. The room has one standing shower and toilet so keep scheduling in mind. Also, the elevators are quirky, the floor selections are outside of the lift and will direct you to A, B, or C accordingly. Pay attention because the wrong elevator cannot be adjusted to remedy your ignoring which letter you are assigned.
Finally, if you are boycotting Nestle you'll want to add this hotel to the boycott. They provide bottled Nestle water in the rooms which means a portion of your stay funds Nestle.
Otherwise, enjoy your stay in Boston! Yes, there are Dunkies nearby for your donut and coffee needs. For affordable meals in the area I suggest avoiding the Seaport District restaurants and instead saving Seaport for dessert and drinks. Definitely try the local breweries while here and ask anyone with a Dunkin coffee for recommendations of restaurants and activities. Also, check the BosTen lists for weekend events. PS, Haymarket is open Friday through Sunday and has the best fresh produce and is a historic landmark ❣️ Also, no smoking allowed in the hotel, and you won't be able to hide it the windows...
Read moreSo this will be a little involved at least. This over all was a VERY good hotel. I've stayed in quite a few recently and this for the most part tops them all in Quality. The room me and my Wife stayed in was a little small for a king room but not cramped, good for 2 people for sure. Interesting kind of Euro set up for the room with the Shower and toilet separate from the Sink and mirror Via a sliding door.
The elevator was a new experience. You choose your floor outside and the Screen tells you what elevator to take when it arrives and it just takes you to your floor.
The Valet parking was nice as well. The guys doing it were very friendly and helpful. Also you can summon your car using a smart phone. Well By summon I mean you click on a link, takes you to a web page and you click request your car, give them 15 minutes and your car will be waiting for you, Very nice on cold rainy New England Weekend.
Now, it was not perfect I did have a few small issues that to me, Yes, We were on the 11th for with a nice wide view.. of a Trailer yard and Cargo harbor. I wouldn't personally call it " Amazing " but it was okay.. not what I would value at the price I was paying at the time though.
Second, the bed.. For me it was WAY to hard. It's basically a stuffed mattress on a platform, meaning it didn't have a lot of give, and with really thin pillows it made sleeping a more restless thing than anything. I woke up with back and or neck sore several times. I'll not say I've slept on any bed I found really comfy other than my own, but I've slept on better for less.
Third was there was ZERO microwave in the room. Coffee maker, Very small dorm room fridge with no freezer and ZERO microwave. I have NEVER stayed in a room at a hotel that did NOT have a microwave. My wife and I typically count on it to help keep food costs down as we bring stuff we can heat in a micro.
Finally, and this is a Bad News / Good News deal - The Hotel overcharged me 220 bucks. I went over the bill as I typically do, wondering why it was so much higher than I was told. Did I do something that cost? I know it's 50 for Valet parking but this? I called the front desk, they sent my file over to who called me back and issued a refund, saying it was a " Computer Glitch " Now yes, maybe it was, but I find computer Glitch to either me we have no idea, or we did it hoping you wouldn't notice. NOW BEFORE YOU JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS... I feel it was the former, they're not sure what happened, and it's been refunded. However, had I not been one to check my bills it would have gone unnoticed.
Over all, I wouldn't call the issues Game breaking and it was a very nice and friendly hotel. Would I recommend it? Yes, but I cannot in good conscious...
Read moreOur experience with customer service staff at this hotel was VERY spotty. I would say that the majority of my interactions with staff were met with rudeness, especially with the 3rd shift. I understand that the 3rd shift staff probably has to deal with a good amount of rudeness from customers that come in and ask questions late at night, but my group is really outgoing and friendly. Upon check-in, I asked a question about one of the two rooms I reserved and was met (by I believe her name is Athena) with a "I just told you that" and was subsequently asked to put give my card, even after I explained that one room already had a card down for incidentals. Not to mention that the hold for incidentals was not explained to me, staff simply- I'll say asked, but it was more of an order- to swipe my card and sign. I figured out that it was for incidentals based on context and the receipt I was issued later. The second room reservation, for which another member of our party put down a card to cover incidentals, was changed to be a duration of 1 night instead of 4 and when his keys didn't work the next day he was told that he was checked out. Luckily, the room had not been booked by someone else and he didn't have to change rooms, but having to adjust the reservation and have this worry was certainly an inconvenience. Further, none of your wonderful programs, such as the green room program for which we only received 1 voucher instead of 4 as a result (after a friend told us about it), or amenities were described- I happened to find the pool on the last day at the hotel. Upon check out during the 3rd shift, we wanted to split the bill between a couple cards. One member of our party was charged more than the rest, which I think was an honest mistake; but, when I asked if the amount charged was for the group rate (as it was significantly more than expected) the staff member gave me a sideways look and shook her head to get me to shut up. It turns out that I think she just did the math incorrectly and did overcharge this person. However, I will add that this person did become slightly more friendly after I clarified to say, "It just seems like a lot more than we expected. I was just genuinely asking a question." I will also add that the staff member who retrieved our checked bags in the afternoon and the cleaning staff were all very friendly...
