Welllllll.... i can't help but wonder if the raving reviews are family or employees. we had dinner there tonight..... i was the guest and the rest of the 15 people were all Asian so i'm guessing we were treated better than most because my hosts have been to this restaurant MANY times.
As you can see from the pictures... (and it's the same in person) it's very plain pedestrian decor. it's also very brightly lit inside so the pedestrian decor is even more plain looking. The food?? good (not great) but VERY over priced. at our table of 15 there were only 3 bottles of wine and 3 Tsingtao beers... so a very low liquor tab considering how many people were in our group. The total bill.... was OVER $1100. (YES, really). The crispy lobster for example were 2 very small (probably 1.5 lb each) lobsters that were butchered in pieces, then deep fried. yes it was good but it took forever to get out a few morsels of lobster from each chunk. each platter of crispy lobster was about $20.... sooooo i consider that very expensive considering each "chunk" of lobster barely had a morsel inside.
The service was in my opinion verrrry poor. we had three servers (shared among 5 other large tables). one of the servers had an amazing attitude (but was constantly rushed)... the second one wasn't bad and did anything she was asked but was NOT at all pleasant about it... and the third one was just plain awful.... and i mean awful. this third woman had a TERRIBLE attitude and had a disgusted expression with every plate she removed and anything she was asked... and i'm guessing by all that was ordered, she knew the tip wouldn't be small (and it wasn't). i tried to discretely slip my hosts some cash (knowing this was a verrrry expensive meal) but they adamantly refused.
Personally i would nevvvvvver go back... but for some unknown reason that i cannot figure out... my hosts have been there MANY times. crazy but every...
Read moreGood: The Beef Lo Mein was delicious, with very tender beef. Complimentary hot tea is nice, though something to filter the leaves from being poured into the cups would be nice.
Bad: The Sweet and Sour Pork was just chopped and breaded spare ribs, meaning almost every bite has you pulling some bit of chewed up bone or chunk of gristle out of your mouth. More than half of each bite is inedible. After spending ten minutes digging stuff out of my mouth I gave up on eating the rest. Finger food can be fine as a meal, but having to literally spit or dig something out of your mouth with every bite makes for a terrible dinner experience. The eggrolls seem like small generic frozen eggrolls, making their steep price feel like a ripoff. None of the appetizers appeared to be anything that would actually be made in the kitchen, just frozen stuff fried and served. Plasticware, styrofoam cups and smudged looking plates in a restaurant where most entrees are over $10... not good. The restaurant was basically dead during our visit, which made the inattentive service doubly annoying. No checking to see how our food was, No offer to refill a soda. Leaving a pitcher of water at the table rather than just checking on us once in a while. Disappearing at the end of the meal, forcing us to call him from across the restaurant for the check. Total apathy.
As someone who only has the budget to eat at a "real" restaurant once or twice a month, this was tremendously disappointing. I probably could have overlooked most of my issues if the pork hadn't been so terrible, but the server never bothered to check on us so it all just added up to a really bad experience. I don't think I'd...
Read moreYou should go to Chau Chau. it is my favorite restaurant. The reason this is my favorite restaurant is because they have service that's not like your typical restaurant. They have yummy food and you never have to wait very long.
This is my favorite restaurant - Chau! Chau! You want to know why? Because of their food! It is really good. They have this food called Pork Bun. This is how I think it is made. They have a sweet piece of bread and this is called Pork Bun for a reason! They stuff pork in it. Here's something as good as pork bun. It is chau foon, one of my favorites, and this is how I think they make it. They have dough and I think they soften it and put shrimp in it and it' really good. That is why I like the food. And the crab balls are great.
I also like this place is because of how long you have to wait. 25% of why I like chau chau is the waiting that long. In chau chau they come with carts around the restaurant and that makes the order really fast. And in other restaurants there huge line's but in chau chau there are not big lines and it takes 2 seconds to get seated. Also like chau chau because of the service, in chau chau they have really good service because it is good it is fast and it is yummy. this is why I like chau chau.
