Ducali, located in the North End on Causeway street, right by the Charlestown bridge, is a perfect spot for an escape. At first glance, it appears to be another neighborhood place that we all need in a pinch. Once inside, on the short way through the contemporary seating area to the bar I noticed the menu on a giant chalkboard on the left wall. Then I know this was serious. Serious quality, in a nice room that feels like present-day Italy. That means great, modern food and drink to go with the surroundings. That's what I got. The friendly bartender supplied me with a menu, to peruse the offerings, and got me my sangria. Delightfully, my sangria arrived before I could really take in the considerable choices on the menu. Priced at $6 a glass, that is the best value I have had all summer. Devine. And went perfectly with the pizza that I ordered, and made the wait for it more anticipating. My pizza had the perfect balance of potato, prosciutto, and Gorgonzola artfully arranged. It was so satisfying, I didn't want or need anything else for the rest of the night. But there was enough to take home, and savour in a few days. The following week, I brought a friend there. He was just as impressed as I was. We relaxed and had...
Read moreStopped buy here during our walk of the Freedom Trail. There is two sides to the restaurant, a fast-food side to grab a quick slice of pizza and a drink, and the sit-down restaurant side. Staff on the fast-food side recommended we grab a table when they realized we were going to order an entire pizza. The sit-down restaurant side showplaced a modest bar and a brick oven for fire-cooked pizza. The menu highlighted choices with true authentic Italian roots. We choose a salad with feta, eggplant and several variety of olives, and a chicken and pesto pizza. All food was presented family-style, one large plate that we served ourselves from. It was absolutely delicious! Perfect balance of saltiness and herbs, reasonable amount of chicken, and the chicken was cut up into bitesized bits for easy eating. The olive oil and vinegar on the salad was tangy and paired beautifully with the rich cheese and savory olives. Even my youngest (who eats American pizza with Ranch dressing) ate with gusto and had seconds. Absolutely recommend this restaurant, and will return when I'm in...
Read moreNice casual option in our North End neighborhood! Everything was priced very well, the service was friendly.
Calamari: When you're dealing with calamari in the North End, it's a tough sell. It was decent, but hard to say it was great when you know there are so many other calamari options right near by. I'm not sure it was fried fresh as it came out so fast after ordering. But it certainly wasn't bad by any means.
Aragosta pizza: My husband loved his pizza. Served at a great temperature, very fresh, crust was great, yummy white sauce, generous lobster. He was very pleased. We thought it was reasonably priced as well.
Pollo frito: I thought the sandwich was just a tad bland, though the actual ciabatta bread was very good. HOWEVER, I requested this without cheese (lactose intolerant) and I'm sure that would have made a huge difference. I ended up dipping my sandwich in the leftover calamari sauce which worked great. Fries were yummy.
Would definitely come back and try more things...
