Extology Salon — Local services in Boston

I found Extology Salon through a very intense search for hair extensions. Over the past few years - age and the chemo-preventative I’ve been on for the past 3 1/2 years had thinned out my once thick hair. I wasn’t necessarily looking for length, but volume. I looked at every possible type of extension and felt right at home when coming across Extology’s informative page on extensions. I was also very concerned that I would not be able to wear my hair up in a ponytail for my daily workouts and I was concerned for anyone to see that I had extensions. After going through every photo on Extology’s IG page and on the internet I made the leap of faith and set up a consultation.

Kriscia met me that afternoon and of all the consultants I had met on my hair extension journey, she was the first to sit down and really talk about every single aspect of extensions and the different types that she could use on me. In the end I wanted the most natural ones I could get. I decided to go for it and was able to get an appointment shortly after.

I arrived on my scheduled day with tons of work and Netflix queued up….I’m not going to lie - it was a long day!!!! The results were incredible - it was a bit longer than I was used to, but she told me to live with it for the next two weeks and she would do a check and adjust anything if needed and/or trim it.

When I went home that evening, my husband was blown away. He was sooooo happy that I was happy and was honest telling me how great it looked. Over the next two weeks I got used to it - styling and washing became easier and easier with each wash.

I only let a few people know what I had done - one was my son’s hairstylist and the other was my personal hairstylist - both were absolutely amazed with the end product and they had never seen bonds so tiny and spaced apart perfectly that you could run your hands through my hair without getting them stuck. In fact one of the hair stylist made her own appointment!!!

I went back at my two week followup and had the back trimmed up a few inches and while I was there Kriscia was so attentive to every question, determining what she needed to add to my file for the next time we did the bonds. In another two weeks I will go back and we will determine when we will remove and replace.

Another thing that was so great about the salon besides how pleasant everyone who works there is - was the parking! The salon was easy to get to - I traveled 45 minutes from New Hampshire - and got off at Sullivan Square and came over the bridge and was there in no time. Valet parking across the street at the hotel is such a nice benefit - and they have a Starbucks inside and its great to grab something to eat! It completely takes the stress away from coming into the city.

If I haven’t convinced you to set a consultation - I’m not sure what will! This was one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself in a long time. I can’t wait to see how it evolves !

I was disappointed with my experience at Extology. I chose to go to Extology because of their many great reviews online. My experience was far, far from a 5 star review. I initially went to go get a hair cut & color consultation towards the end of August. The haircut was fine, and cost $60.00. The color consultation was quick, and the stylist just said because I do not have grays, there is no reason for her to do full cover, just an all over gloss. I booked my appointment for Sept 04 at 4pm. The day before my appointment at 8pm, my flight back to Boston got cancelled. It was Labor Day weekend and airports were backed up, so I immediately e-mailed Extology and let them know the situation. The next morning I get a call saying I will still be charged 50% of my total because it was not 24 hours. I understood the cancellation policy, but due to my circumstances I was hoping they would just let me reschedule for the next day so I could get my color taken care of. The lady I spoke was extremely rude and said there was no budging, I could re-schedule, but I would still be charged 50% for this appointment. Shortly afterwards, I checked my bank statement and I have a charge for $88.00. The cost of all over gloss was $80.00.

I called twice, no answer so I sent an e-mail back asking what the charges were for. I will spare you all the details in a high level version: wrong things were added to my account, my haircut that I got in August was charged again, wrong information was told to me via e-mail, several mistypes of services, charges were added to my account that I NEVER discussed or agreed to, pricing was literally just arbitrary and all over the place, and to top it off the person I was speaking with was completely nonchalant about the entire situation. The only thing they did through this whole process was fix their OWN mistakes they were making while talking to me, and my charges were still wrong.

I have since disputed this charge with my bank under fraudulent CC charges and made sure no other charges from this company be approved to my card. I have no doubt the stylists at Extology do a good job, but the management is awful and greedy, and try to screw you out your money for no reason. I would have certainly come back a day or two later to get my color had they not been so shady, but I’m actually glad I now know to stay far, far away...

After moving even further away from the salon I had happily been going to for several years, I reluctantly decided to find one closer. I chose Extology based on the rave reviews and booked a color consultation. Upon arrival and check-in I was given some paperwork to fill out which slightly annoyed me because this was only a consultation, not an actual hair appointment. Shortly thereafter Kelcee introduced herself. We had a quick chat about my hair goals and I made an appointment to see her the following week, which felt like cheating btw since I was so loyal to my former hairstylist. In short, Kelcee was not only extremely sweet and an attentive stylist but did an absolute BEAUTIFUL job on my hair. I completely recommend her. Five stars all the way!

UPDATE: A couple months and several hair appointments later, I still stand by my ⬆️ initial five-star review! Kelcee is very talented for being such a young stylist and very good about communicating what she is doing to your hair throughout your appointment. Hailey, who has helped Kelcee on several occasions with my hair is, in my opinion, another great asset to Extology. Honestly, the only negative to the salon is the sign-in process upon arrival to appointments. Similar to the new client paperwork at consultation appointments, it is a bit excessive when you are still “signing in” while your hairdresser is standing there waiting on you to finish entering your name, email address, phone #, etc. The salon should nix this mandatory check-in process...
