What to expect at Night Shift Brewing by Lovejoy Wharf: Terrible service, disrespectful and rude staff.
Skip this place and go to Alcove instead.
Here's why: Sunday, October 30th in the evening my dad and I stopped here at Night Shift to enjoy a beer after walking along the Freedom Trail to sight-see. Inside the place was somewhat busy. The side seating was taken up but there were a few empty seats at the bar which had some partially eaten plates of food infront of them, so I asked the large fellow dressed as a woman who was bar tending if it was okay if my dad and I sit there and bar guy's response was he didn't know. So, not to be rude and take someone's seat my dad and I went away from the bar to a table which did not have a reserved sign on it.
After seating my dad at the table I went back to the bar to order the beers where some smaller bartender with a beard was moving back and forth chatting with people and serving people who had more recently arrived. I waited 10-12 minutes for him to pause which didn't happen so I asked loudly if I may place an order for two ales from the tap infront of me. He gave me a beer list and went back to serving people. The gal bartending next to him didn't bother to follow up when I asked again to order 8-10 minutes later. More people started coming in, Celtics fans, and another bar staff member began managing the small bearded guy and I saw a female Nightshift Brewing employee talking to my dad so I thought maybe she was taking his order so I figure to heck with the bar staff I'll just go back to the table.
Upon coming back to the table it turns out she was kicking my dad away from the table, that it was now reserved.
Save 25 minutes of your life and don't bother with Night...
Read moreFirst off, visiting from Toronto, love the craft brewery scene here in Boston. We felt that Night Shift was a true embodiment of the craft brew. The brewery is conveniently located on your way back from the end of the Freedom Trail (which is when we ended up here) and very close to CitizenM hotel (which is where we stayed while in Boston). So I would certainly give it some point for location (also located beside TD Centre). Anyways, we came with the intention to try a couple of different beers and see what the brewery had to offer. Somewhat sad to find out that the did not offer flights of beer but you could purchase 4 oz tasters for $4/taster. Surprised that flights weren't offered, I inquired and our server told us flights were once offered but lead to congestion at the bar and really slowed down the whole drink order process. Anyways, the $4 taster wasn't bad. The brewery offers an excellent variety of beers for all beer lovers, with each beer having it's own unique flavors. Personally, unless you are coming here on a regular basis, go for the taster option and get a feel for what they have to offer. To pair nicely with you tasters, consider getting the fries and the bottomless popcorn (just like us!). Side note, when telling our server we were visiting Boston, they were kind enough to write out a recommended list (talk about added service). All and all, check this place out, you won't be disappointed. Fun fact, they also roast and brew...
Read moreThis is now the second time my gf and I have just been completely disappointed by one of our favorite places. A couple of days ago we made a reservation for Saturday the 29th right before the bruins game. The day of we had received a call from a woman named Janice who left us a poorly spoken voicemail stating they cancelled all outdoor reservations due to the rain which We could understand, but wished they had told us earlier so we could make alternate plans. We called back and Janice nor anyone else even offered to make accommodations for the guest who had reservations outside, we told her it was only the two of us and she had reassured us there would be plenty of room to accommodate a party of two. We arrived at the location and what do you know, no room and no one taking into consideration we had a reservation prior to all of this.
We have both worked in the food industry and we understand how things work, but at this point we have been disappointed a handful full of times by the service here and have always been willing to give this location another shot because we do love the beer but the customer service and hospitality need definite work. Guest who make reservations that have been affected by the weather should be accommodated. It is simply unfair.
From the waiter completely forgetting about us last time and leaving to now this, is highly upsetting. Hoping things change soon.
