One of my favorite wine bars in Boston.
As one of the most popular wine bars in Downtown Boston, haley.henry stands out as a bustling yet cozy haven. The bar's ambiance strikes a balance between vibrant energy and intimate charm. With most seatings arranged around the bar and window, the bar stool seats might not be very comfortable, but the experience they offer is unparalleled.
Their food menu ranges from simple seafood dishes like ceviche and crudo to tinned fish served with toasted baguettes. Some of the highlights from my most recent visit were the Red Snapper Ceviche and the Roasted Oysters. Ceviche was bright and citrusy, and the roasted oysters also had some mild flavor kicks from the herb butter. Served with rustic toasted baguettes, their assortment of tinned fish - the mackerel and tuna belly - was beautifully complemented by pickled red onions, butter, and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt.
What truly elevated the experience was their service. Whether you're a seasoned wine expert or just dipping your toes into the world of wines, the knowledgeable servers are adept at guiding you through their extensive list, ensuring a perfect pairing with your meal.
Highly recommend giving them a try for anyone seeking a unique and intimate wine bar experience in...
Read moreBeen here twice, first time we came here for our anniversary and had reservations, we had to wait 20 minutes standing in a smaller area while we waited for the people to leave. I love tinned fish and going here was special so I didnt make a big deal about the moldy bread I was served, but they happily gave me a single replacement roll without charge, how kind. The experience was very nice so I returned for my graduation weekend. Again we had reservations and again we had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated because the people leaving their seats had their baby out for the first time, fine, but pretty ridiculous weve had to stand and wait for quite a while both times when they charge 40$ per person for being too late to the reservation. This time we again ordered three tins but only got 2 pieces of bread and were charged more when we asked for more. Thank god it wasnt moldy at least. I really want to love this place but I think ill go to salty girl for tinned fish, if I ever just want to have fancy wine,...
Read moreGo for: The novelty of an entire meal of canned seafood paired with wine, and great decor.
Avoid if: You're tired of spending an arm and a leg to leave hungry from yet another overpriced Boston restaurant.
Something surprising: The owner and partner started another wine bar in Fenway.
Reservation needed? Yes, definitely.
Overall Experience: 3/5. One of the few places in Boston that feels like it was plucked out of New York City (in a good way). You'll want to love this place, but the exorbitantly expensive mini-portions of food are a turnoff. While the servers are nice, expect long waits before you're able to order your next glass. And just because wine has a high price tag and comes from a small vintner doesn't necessarily mean that it's good - it normally just means they have lots of overhead costs and no vertical integration.
