I travel a lot and have not had an experience like I did at The Dagny. Stayed here with a group of 9 friends with several rooms booked. I don’t typically write reviews, but this hotel has SOME MAJOR improvements to do surrounding safety and customer service.
POSITIVES: Decent location. Walkable to many nearby shops and restaurants. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Valet was quick, within 17 minutes, but disorganized.
NEGATIVES:
Too pricey. Too many hidden fees and taxes (over $128) on top of room rate.
Customer Service. Was advised upon check in to provide my AAA card for discount to be applied, which I did. The individual who checked me in stated the number was already added to my reservation (my AAA number wasn’t added to my reservation). I didn’t push the issue over a $40 discount. I was not advised of any hotel amenities, on site food or beverages or the “surcharges”, extra fees or “discounts” I should have inquired about. How can I inquire about something I know zero information of?
Customer service and Safety. I was abruptly woken up by a person knocking repeatedly on my door at 7am. Before I got to the door, it opened! The door was latched, thankfully. It was a male stating “you called me” and he was there to “repair the bathroom.” After repeatedly telling this random man I didn’t call him or need a repair, he still insisted while holding up a cell phone to show me his call log (?). I told him we didn’t call for repair and shut the door.
Upon checking out later that morning, I was not asked how my stay was. I advised the front desk what had happened re the unidentified male at 7am. They said “we apologize.” I asked them if they could tell me who opened the door to my room and the reason for this person’s entry into my room? The front desk clerk stated, “it was one of our engineers and they were at the wrong room at 7am. I can see it in the logs, they were supposed to go room ‘X’”. I thought this was strange bc room ‘X’ was a COMPLETELY different wing on my floor and the room number was NOT similar. I told them this was not safe and luckily I had the door latched, and it shouldn’t be customary that ANY STAFF just enter a hotel room at 7am while people are sleeping. The front desk clerk apologized again, but the apology didn’t change my feelings regarding lack of safety at this hotel.
Bell hop is disorganized and poorly communicated how our bags would be delivered to us. The lobby was PACKED full of people checking in and out, so it was not clear of how bags could be retrieved without asking staff several times of what to expect and where our bags were.
I booked a standard King, but was sent an email prior to my arrival that my booking was updated to a superior king. Which included plush robes and amazing view. The email also stated, "We look forward to welcoming you to The Dagny and providing the impeccable service we pride ourselves on." I received no robes, had a view of a yellow brick building, did not feel safe and received poor customer service.
Overall, we encountered numerous issues during our stay. For a high priced hotel in Boston. too many questionable issues and concerns.
We do not recommend staying here and we will not stay here...
Read moreExtremely disappointing. This hotel does not match at all what is expected from a 4 star hotel and this price point. Nice lobby and cafe but that's all. The rooms are way worse than a motel. Overall dated but most notably the mattress in room 1132 was so old, it was completely sunk in and we could feel the springs too. We barely slept and every day we woke up with severe back, shoulder and ribs pain. We tried every sleep position possible but it was impossible to sleep as the middle of the body sunk in so much. And I have had a soft mattress but this was something else, when you press it down with hands it would sink more than a foot. We had watery eyes, runny noses and skin itchiness during our stay which resolved immediately after we left so definitely a lot of allergens in the room which is not normal for a 4 star hotel at all. We had to use Claritin during our stay. No sound proofing, we could hear loud street noise all night long. The front desk did not greet us properly - they did not tell us about the daily $10 credit which is included in the price, no information about the amenities either. We heard from other guests about the $10 credit and we inquired at the front desk if it is $10 per person or per room and they said it is $10 for both but when we checked out and saw the final bill they said it was per room. They did not care that we were told otherwise and were misled to purchase something thinking it's included in the price. Rushed check out, we were not even asked how was our stay. I inquired about other charges on the final bill and they said there is a daily fee for the water and coffee/tea in the room and for Wifi. Well guess what - the Wifi didn't work at all, we did not drink coffee and there was no tea in the room. There were two small bottles of water only the first day, and it was not refilled the following days. So we paid $70 for the 2 bottles of water I guess. We didn't even had back up napkins in the bathroom and there were 2-3 napkins left in the box. The toilet paper was clearly used from the previous guests which is disgusting as you can't know if it fell on the floor or it was touched with dirty hand.. but I guess for this price it was too much to even give us a new toilet paper. There was even a used bandage on the floor next to the TV. Next time we go to Boston we will stay with the other 4-star hotels we are used to. There is always something to be desired but this was an unacceptably horrible experience which I have not had even in a beach motel. Even camping on air mattress had been more comfortable. Also we were not offered a new room or any compensation on the room rate at least so this speaks volume about how much they care about their guests experiences. I read their responses to negative reviews now and see the same gaslighting attitude with no compensation offered for not providing the standard guests pay for so I don't expect anything different...
Read moreLike many, I looked at a lot of reviews before choosing the Dagny, but we eventually chose it, and we're not disappointed. My wife and I were in Boston celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, so our room was upgraded to a suite on the 14th floor, with a view over-looking the clock tower building and a lot of the downtown area. An ice bucket of chilled Champagne and jumbo chocolate covered strawberries greeted us as we came through the door. Well done, Dagny, well done!! The suite was clean, and came with almost everything you'd expect a suite to have, including a mini-fridge, which we used for our leftovers. It's a tad on the small size but it worked for us. It doesn't come with a microwave, which would have been nice to heat up said leftovers. It does have a coffeemaker, which we didn't use. You can get fresh coffee in the lobby. The bed was very comfortable, and we both slept well. Our only real gripe is the shower water pressure, which is weak, even for hotel standards. There must be some ways to increase water pressure, but I understand that keeping it weak likely saves them a lot of money. But when it's so weak that it's worth mentioning in a review, well, then something should probably be done about it more sooner than later. A couple of very minor additional gripes worth mentioning. First, we're old school, and we like the hotel information books you often find in many hotels. The Dagny does not have one, and you have to scan a link to order food. Easy enough for us to do, yes, but old habits are hard to break. And second, both remotes to the tv's in our room we're intermittent. Possibly it's just worn out batteries, or there could be an issue. Does the Dagny replace them at regular intervals, or wait for a guest to complain after a complete failure? We didn't find out. The location of the Dagny is about perfect for all that you want to do, and almost everything is within walking distance. At least it was for us. For days with rain or when you just don't feel like walking, an Uber will likely be there in two minutes or less. I read another review where they complained about the staff, bad attitudes, etc. Sounds like nonsense to me, because every employee we encountered greeted us with a smile and a hello, every day for our six day stay. That's not a fluke. That's a standard. Thank you, Dagny, for a great six day stay. Fix that water pressure and we'd love to come back the next time we're in Boston. TIP: The attached Tradesman Cafe is a great place to get coffee, breakfast, or a snack. However, because a lot of students do their work in there, or people just working, finding seating is often difficult. We found a great breakfast place called Mike & Patty's at a dedicated food court at 100 High Street, which is a short walk from the Dagny. Do yourself a favor and check it out. The food is fantastic, the coffee fresh, and there is always...
