We had the absolute worst experience at Moxies. I never write reviews, but they quite literally ruined our night. We had a friend from out of town visiting and wanted to take her somewhere nice to sit outside, so we unfortunately picked Moxies thinking the food would be really good and the ambience of sitting on the deck overlooking the water would be lovely. We were wrong. First, we get there and the host starts trying to seat us.. at a table other people are already sitting at, and then when I asked why we weren't being sat outside like I had reserved on OpenTable, he said that the top deck had been rented out so they only had their small patio which was first come first serve, even though we had a reservation for outside, they did not save a spot outside for us. It was a beautiful day we had expected to sit outside and no one called to tell us the deck had been reserved otherwise we would've gone somewhere else to sit outside on one of Boston's first nice summer days. After we were already so upset by this, they messed up one of our drink orders, and then charged us to make it right instead of bringing the right drink (all they did was add mango flavoring to a margarita and they charged for it). Two of us have celiac and asked about their supergreens salad that looked like it should've been gluten free but wasn't listed as such, so we ordered it and asked the waitress to confirm that it was gluten free and just to let us know why it wasn't or what ingredients would need to be removed in case we wanted to order something else. she assured us she would come back and let us know. she never did and when we got our $20 salads, it consisted of lettuce and some pieces of strawberry with dressing and cheese. I had also asked to not have cheese on my salad. it was supposed to come with quinoa cucumber avocado strawberries and seeds. Not sure why they took everything off including the cucumber? All these items should have been gluten free so not sure why they were all removed and also not sure why no one ever came out to tell us this was happening because we probably would've ordered something else so we could eat more than lettuce. And yes we did eat it, because we were starving. So we didn't ask for a refund because we knew how that'd go but it was so frustrating and disappointing. Also to top it all off, we found hair in our drinks and food! Legit horrible experience I will never ever...
Read moreWe went here on two separate nights during a long Memorial Day weekend. The first night, our waitress Nichole couldn't have given less of a care that we were patrons in the restaurant. We waited over 15 minutes to be greeted with water, another 15 for cocktails, and she just genuinely seemed annoyed and uninterested in us. Our appetizers and entrees came out at the same time, which is infuriating, and she didn't drop the food nor come back to the table. We had to flag her down for additional cocktails. Waited for the check, Waited until a busser brought a togo box. Had to wait for another to bring plasticware.
We ordered several of the same cocktail, and every one, while delicious, was poured to a different amount. Half the glass? To the rim? We were both drinking the same drink, and even 2 of the same at the same time, were not poured the same.
We came back the next night because of the food only. The dishes we had the night before were hearty, balanced, and full of flavor. Top notch! We sat at the bar, and again, took a long time to even be greeted with 4 patrons in the bar. The bartender was more interested in his food and his phone. We ordered drinks and it was another half hour before we got his attention again. There was a high top in the bar with employees eating food, using phones, and generally not caring and that's where all the focus was. I'm sorry but we came to eat and drink, and because of the lack of service we ordered one appetizer and then left.
The food? Stellar, from what we had. The drinks? Inconsistent at best, but very good versions of classic cocktails. The servers? They want to talk about getting drunk at the bar next door or with each other and their customer service is not at the top priority list. If you are in the well of the bar, at least glance down the way at the patrons. The lady servers giving goo goo eyes to you will still be there when you turn around, and you could have at least made more money! They missed out on us ordering two more courses and several drinks if they just glanced in our direction.
The bathrooms are also a mess with no active soap dispensers and overflowing trash cans. The server station is also directly outside the bathroom doors, and that's where they are rolling the silverware you are eating.. while eating food with...
Read moreNew restaurant in Seaport with great food and service.
This Canadian chain made its way to Seaport a few months back, and I recently had the opportunity to check it out. Similar to other contemporary restaurants in the area, Moxies provided a lounge-like dining experience with distinct vibes on each floor: the first floor was more family-friendly, while the second floor buzzed with a lively bar scene. The menu here was quite eclectic, featuring everything from New England classics and steaks to Asian fusion dishes. Fortunately, most of the dishes we ordered were great, and the service was among the best I've encountered in new Seaport restaurants.
Among the three appetizers we tried, our favorite was their signature Crab Cake. Initially, the bitterness of the endive leaves and grapefruit seemed a bit overwhelming, but they ultimately paired well with the sourness of the lemon & dill cream and the savory crab cake, adding a pleasant kick between bites. The Potstickers were good as well, though the pineapple salsa didn't quite mesh with the dumplings; the savoriness of the pork filling was too subtle to stand up to the sweetness of the salsa. The Tuna Sushi Stack was decent, but it was somewhat underwhelming, with a generic soy ginger glaze and spicy mayo that didn't bring anything interesting.
From the entrées, the Chicken Madeira Rigatoni was our favorite. The Madeira Wine Sauce superbly enhanced the umami of the chicken, and its combination with creamy mushrooms made the dish exceptionally rich and satisfying. The Blackened Mahi Mahi, served with a zesty Salsacado, was slightly dry, but this was somewhat offset by the creamy mashed potatoes.
Despite some initial reservations about the food quality due to their extensive menu, we were quite surprised by what we experienced. The portions were relatively generous for the price, and the private booths on the first floor make it an ideal spot for a laid-back and casual meal with friends and family. Recommend...
