I've been a regular customer at J Pace since I moved to the Seaport, but will unlikely continue to support this business. Half of the items in the store don't have price tags, forcing you to trust the staff to charge you the right amount or making you ask the staff about every item.
After Salvatore's went out of business next door, it seems like J Pace is price gauging people - we are residents, and have spent hundreds of dollars at J Pace every month; however the store manager yelled at me this morning for asking if the coffee combo (a bagel or muffin plus a coffee) could be served with an iced coffee. Joe, the manager flatly told me "no that's only about making more sales. Iced coffees are a dollar more so you need to pay for that. Some people walk in here thinking they can get a cappuccino for that price and it's so ridiculous". I was stunned by how rude he was to me ESPECIALLY since he knows I live above their store and frequently shop there. I calmly replied "no problem, I was just asking a question", and walked away.
That is absolutely no way to talk to any customer, especially a regular one. After all of the money I've spent there since I moved to Seaport last November, J Pace will now make a few hundred less in sales per month because the manager thought it was ok to yell at me about $1.
If you're looking for something similar, I highly recommend Frank Anthony's in Seaport. The staff are all kind, price are all clearly marked, and the produce is much fresher...
Read moreHave been here a few times for lunch and I see why it is a staple in South Boston.
I'm a sucker for chicken cutlets so my two experiences and now go-tos for sandwiches were the Mamma Mia and Chicken Americano. The bread was so soft and fresh. Same goes for the chicken cutlets. Additionally they were thin, but hearty, crispy, yet juicy. Not only was the sandwich delicious, but was it filling. I am not a small guy and I had to wrap the second half of the sandwich up for later. This doubles the value as each sandwich is about $12, making it $6/meal if you split it in half, which will be a necessity if you add some chips and a beverage.
One small negative is their pizza. Being me, I have try a cheese slice wherever I see one available. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either, however, it's clear to me that you don't come to J Pace's for pizza.
If you're visiting Boston or live in and around Southie you got to stop by for a sandwich or maybe two. I'll be back...
Read moreI end up working across the street today and with only a few minutes this is the only thing close. I ask the attendant if they have any vegan options and they don’t even know what “a vegan is” as his suggestion was “eggplant parm”. 🤔 I grab the only two things in this giant store that are remotely vegan and meal-worthy, a garden salad and edemame salad. The cashier rings up my salad and doesn’t offer dressing or utensils just slaps it in a bag (they hide them under the register how classy) so I have to ask for each separately. The salad was tired and uninspiring and I’d confidently say I had much better salads from the prep foods at Market Basket. The edemame salad was to my dismay at it’s expired date, smelled questionable and had wayyy too much oil it was more like soup. I didn’t ask but my coworker did not seem pleased with...
