RACIST ESTABLISHMENT. I’m a black woman— I went there with my boyfriend, and honestly from the first moment I felt unwelcome. I told the person at the desk I had a reservation, they verified that I did, and walked me halfway to an igloo before saying “the first one” and walking away.
I thought it was strange that the person didn’t even accompany us to the igloo, then I quickly realized why— the door of the igloo had two rips in it, which made it freezing cold in there. When a waiter showed up, I told her that we were cold and asked if we could sit elsewhere in the other two igloos that were empty. She said “I’ll ask” and then asked some guy who was apparently the host if we could move, and he looked at us AND ROLLED HIS EYES. She came back and told us “it won’t be possible...”. Then, a few minutes later, I watched the host seat a white couple in the igloo we wanted to move to. 20 minutes later, the host sat yet another white couple in the other igloo I asked for. At this point, I asked for the manager.
The manager showed up and was VERY argumentative. He told me that the other couples had “reservations”, and when I told him that we did too and we came before them, he was like “yeah sure”, and then I asked if people reserve igloos by number, and he went “no. But it’s theirs.” Then he asked if we wanted to sit inside... I said okay, as we walked inside a waiter rushed to sit a white couple in the only inside spot available. The manager looked at me and said “Oh well”. At this point, I realized they were trying to make us leave. I then asked him why my seats couldn’t be changed to the other empty igloos before the other guests arrived, and he said “People are sitting there now.” When I tried to say something else, he said (again) “People are sitting there now.” He ended up repeating that for a third time, and at that point I just asked if we could sit back at the original igloo, he said “I guess” and walked off.
So, before we could even seat ourselves back down, a waiter comes rushing into the igloo asking our orders. I told them we needed a moment. A few seconds later, they came right back. Now I realized they were rushing us. We had intended on having a big dinner, but due to the racism, we just ordered shrimp, clam chowder and a lobster roll. They had taken my appetite away at this point. The food came back remarkably quick, however it was cold. The waiter who dropped the food off looked at us very rudely and wordlessly slammed it on the table. Lobster roll was tasteless and had an acidic aftertaste. Shrimp was okay...
So, then we asked for the check, paid it, and left. We even still left a tip. But yeah, if you’re not white, then expect to be made to feel uncomfortable. Maybe they’ll trap you in the cold and ripped igloo, as...
Read moreI've visited here before, but this was our first time for brunch and it was disappointing to say the least. We made a reservation for 11:45am and were SO excited about trying the brunch and bloody mary's as the restaurant is rated the 3rd best bloody in Boston - sadly we saw no proof to that. We got there a bit early and there was hardly anyone there which was great. The hostess came over after a few minutes, but we had no clue she even worked there. She didn't say "Hi" or anything, she just looked at us. We told her about the reservation to which she responded "name," in a melancholy tone. She asked where we liked to sit and showed us there. I totally understand how aggravating it can be to work a Sunday morning shift, but a bit of customer service goes a long way. Not only did she sound miserable, but she looked miserable. We sat for about 15 minutes before a server came over. Our server was really nice, apologetic, and explained that there must have been some sort of mix up that left us waiting for so long. She brought us water and took our drink order. My partner's drink was perfect, but mine tasted like straight up V* and nothing else. The celery in our drinks had A LOT of dirt on it. She works at a popular bar in the city and knows the standards expected. We didn't mention anything, which is definitely on us. Our server took our orders. My partner got the Mexican omelette, and I got steak and eggs. After seeing the prices, we expected high quality food and high quality chefs. The server asked how I liked my steak cooked. I told her rare, to which she asked "what is rare? what does that look like? just so I can tell the chef because they don't always know, and when I'm here at night I need to order my burgers differently than other times a day so the chef knows what I mean." Truthfully, that's what shocked me the most. I don't know a qualified (or even less than qualified) chef who doesn't know the temperatures to cook a steak/meat. The food came quickly which was nice, and it wasn't bad but it was far from impressive or even worth the cost. The steak looks better at Texas Roadhouse honestly. And the chorizo in the Mexican omelette tasted more like day old pepperoni than anything else. Our server really couldn't have been nicer, and she definitely tried, but the restaurant was just SUCH a let down. We also overheard the table next to us complain about the same hostess seating them, stating that she was "extremely unpleasant and just so f** miserable." I know our server tried, and the food wasn't terrible, but we've been left with literally no reason to return here which honestly sucks given the rave reviews all over...
Read moreOverall a great place with a good selection of drinks, and foods.
For appetizers we ordered Crispy Fried Calamari along with Truffle Polenta Fries. I'm not a huge fan of calamari, and in my opinion their calamari was about the same as any other I've tried.
The Truffle Polenta Fries we're definitely interesting. They were extremely thick cut fries, and were flaky and tasted decent. The real star of the dish was the Chipotle aioli sauce that is included and just had such a great flavor (there's also a marinara, but isn't anywhere near as good as the Chipotle sauce).
Overall both appetizers were fine, but nothing exceptional.
I also ordered one of the drinks "Painkiller", which tasted decent, but was definitely not what I anticipated. It's a fairly thick drink (kind of in the same vain of a non-frozen mudslide). I don't think I'd recommend this along with a meal as it's decently heavy, sweet, and rich. One small thing that bugged me about it is something in the ingredients was plugging up the straw frequently, and made drinking it with a straw somewhat difficult.
I ordered the Grilled Chicken Ranch Bowl and split it with one other person (and the staff were awesome about splitting it, the presentation was the same for each bowl and looked as I imagine it would if in only one bowl). There's not much to say about it as it's exactly what you'd expect from a chicken ranch salad, except that they also include some of those polenta fries which didn't meld well with the overall flavors. An odd note is they gave me and the other person I split the salad with an obscene amount of feta cheese. They gave us each four roughly 1x1 inch chunks of feta, so I only ended up mixing in two of them with the salad.
Lastly, we ordered the Chocolate Chip Cookie and Tahitian Vanilla Crème Brûlée, both of which were just exceptional. The flavors were incredible, the Chocolate Chip Cookie (which comes in a mini pan) was warm and gooey and has some ice cream and whipped cream to go with it. Loved both of these.
A complaint I did have was that the music was really, really loud (I'd say roughly 80% the volume you'd find at a normal club). I have no idea if it's normally like this, but it made having a conversation with the people sitting directly next to me and in front of me surprisingly difficult.
The ambiance inside and outside was nice, especially since you're on the water and around a lot of cool places to visit. I doubt I'd go again, but the experience was definitely worth going for...
