Pu Pu Restaurant — Restaurant in Boston

I was in the mood for some good Chinese food. When you're use to eating authentic Chinese food from Chinatown, Quincy and Dorchester, the bar of finding good Chinese is really high.

I decided to give Pu Pu Restaurant a try because of the Google reviews. The last time I ordered from here was pre-pandemic. I did not wow me then, but I blamed it on the pandemic. As I am eating the food I ordered, I am say disappointed that I spent money here. I gave the two stars because the people are nice and the food is edible. Is it delicious? No. Is it authentic? No. Is it the best American version of Chinese food I have had? No!!!

I had the salt and pepper shrimp which was covered in a batter and not even spicy or authentic as the ones in Chinatown. There was more batter than shrimp. It was like I was eating fried shrimp (Chinese restaurant version) instead of shrimp lightly fried and crispy with a hint of spicy.

The shrimp and lobster sauce is a meh. The shrimp was overcooked. The lobster sauce I am use to usually has scallions and other things to give it flavor. lso, I asked for a small, but they gave me a large. Not sure who I can give this to...

The mixed vegetables were chopped in big pieces and had canned mushrooms in them. I hate canned mushrooms. 😑 It was okay. A

Got food here for the first and last time. Probably the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I have no idea how they have a 4+ star rating. The food was terrible and the prices are ridiculous. The pork fried rice was like something you’d get in a microwave pouch from the supermarket, overcooked and didn’t even taste like Chinese rice. The chicken fingers breading was bland & had a very weird texture, the low quality meat inside was frozen not fresh. The egg rolls which they only give you one of per order and charge you 4$ each were so disgusting I don’t even know how to put it into words I tried to bite into it and I almost broke my tooth. It was crunchy as if it had been cooked 6 hours before then got stale while the vegetables on the inside were somehow completely raw… The only thing out of everything that we ordered that was any good was the boneless spareribs, the full ribs with the bone, however were absolutely awful. They didn’t even take the time to get rid of the excess bones lodged in the sides of the meat before they put them in our container. Luckily I noticed a bone sticking out as I was about to bite one as I surely would have been going to the dentist. Oh btw, nearly $20 for an order of them. They are so cheap and greedy. They stuffed all our food into one bag to the point that it couldn’t even close, causing one of our containers to be crushed. Saturday afternoon ordered two specials from the lunch menu and a large pork fried rice. Received order by delivery one hour later should’ve taken the red flags when I was placed on hold four times. Received the food and proceed to open up items for lunch. Got my plate ready sat down turned on the show and started eating notice that when I had ordered, I stated to have everything well done. With that said it wasn’t. I let it slide as I was starving proceeded to eat my lunch. Chicken fingers were crunchy and I don’t mean the batter that is on them. The chicken itself was that crunchy chicken. The boneless spare ribs were all gristle.& inedible. The chicken wings were not well done and tasted like they were reheated. My pork fried rice was so white there was big chunks of white rice. There it was Mushy and inedible. I’ve been ordering from this place for years. And the decline of their food that they put out is atrocious. This wasn’t the first time I’ve gotten a meal that’s not up to par with their standards. This is more like the fourth or fifth time, and I refuse to order from them ever again. Putting this review up was my last stand to protect anybody that orders from their going forwardly. Be aware order from somewhere else. You might end up with a better meal...
