This is a weird review to write because the first time I went the woman who did my hair did it perfectly. I told her I was going to my Mom's Memorial Service. So well done. I do not know if she was in her feelings, or hadn't had sleep but the second time my hair came out a mess. She lies and tells me she has to charge me more for doing the twists smaller, when I came back and realized she did them smaller than this for my mother's service than she did when she did my hair again! She did the first row in the back and had me check the size and they got progressively larger as she went up my head! They were supposed to all be the same size.
She did a horrible job. It was just my natural hair. She braided down the shaft of the twists, which is normal, but this time she braided way down, not just at the roots, and not equally in length at the roots so the twists started at different levels throughout my head. SO now going to do a twist out my hair is going to look like a mess.
I ran out of the shop because I was running late for another appointment. The lighting in their bathroom- at least when I was there- is super dim, so I couldn't really see my hair, then my ride came, and it was raining, so I paid tied up my hair and left. I should have known when she didn't give me a mirror to look at my hair something was wrong. I will admit that initially I confused the receipts thinking I was charged for a trim again when I didn't get a trim this time. Either way the quality was sub par this time, and I was charged for a smaller size of twist I did not receive. I contact her and the owner, and I an told by the owner, well she doesn't want to get in the middle of anything because we agreed on the price. What? This is not worth what I paid and not what I paid for. She tells me they guarantee all of their work and they do great work, and I strike her as a person who would have looked at her hair before I left, so she won't refund me. SO now I am contesting this with my bank.
My hair style didn't even last a week before starting to unravel!
The space is beautiful, but the bathroom is NOT wheelchair accessible. When they are good, they are great, but if you catch them on an off day, or you feel like something isn't quite right, you better be asking for mirrors and checking. So go at your own risk.
8/05/2024 UPDATE I tried to resolve the issue first with the owner and the stylist. They tried to again make excuses for their inappropriate and unprofessional behavior and claim I was hard to please? I had no issues with my hair the first time because it was done well, which is why I went back. I am glad I was refunded via my bank.
Beware, because if the stylist is in a mood and does a poor job and you give feedback regarding this,...
Read more**Edit: While the salon has replied, there are several non-truths in their response. This was my first silk press with Pam, I had never been to the salon prior. As I admitted, my hair did look great at first, but straight and freshly trimmed hair often does. However, as I said, my hair smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs) immediately upon washing and was visibly extremely damaged (a week or so after the appointment). On top of that, severe breakage does not happen immediately, and it has continued to break for months. You can see the new growth, as I said when I mentioned that it was broken inches from the scalp, but months of new growth on damaged hair is always going to be minimal. 8 months is about 4 inches, maximum, and that does not include shrinkage.
Additionally, why would I have returned to a salon that damaged my hair beyond belief? I was devastated, panicked, and trying to heal my hair on my own, which clearly did not work since the damage was so extensive. Shame on you for doing shoddy work and then trying to blame the victim of your wrongdoings.
Original Review:
Pam was a great person and the silk press was one of the best I’ve had, before I tried to revert my hair to curly. It smelled like rotten eggs in a way that I have never smelled before, and when I looked in the mirror, my hair was filled with bone straight pieces all the way to the root.
My hair is so damaged, that over the last 8 months, my hair has broken off into several large patches of hair that are only two inches long. For reference, my hair goes down to the middle of my back when straight, so it’s going to take forever to grow back. It is significantly thinner because of the short pieces, and it is also still filled with straight pieces, which have now become much more obvious because of new growth at the roots. I can’t even do a twist out or braid out to fix because the pieces are so limp and straight still. I have tried protein treatments, damage repair, and everything under the sun, but it’s too damaged and continues to break off.
I became fully natural six years ago and I am now worse than when I started. It took my entire life up until 2024 to be confident with my curly hair, and just when I had gotten to a point of knowing loving my hair, one bad silk press completely ruined that. I can’t even cut it off because the damage is so close to the scalp. I would have to shave my head. I...
Read moreI have 4c hair and really needed a trim, I heard about this salon and was told that they could work with natural hair. I don't know if it is a particular hair dresser that works with natural hair, but the woman who worked on my hair had no clue what she was doing. She tried combing through my hair dry from root to tip and I asked her to wet my hair and add conditioner because that is the only way to get through my hair, she said she knew what she was doing but decided to spray conditioner in my hair, conditioner not meant for natural hair but chemically treated hair. Hearing my hair rip sent shivers down my spine, and I asked her to please add something else, she said that the reason my hair sounded like it was ripping was because of my texture. I know what my hair sounds like and it doesn't sound like I am ripping it out of my head when I do it at home. She said no hair was coming out but I caught her throwing hair beside the sink or into the sink and letting the water wash it down the drain. If you are natural, be warned, this place is not for you. Your hair will be abused, dry (even after a moisture treatment), and left thinner than before.
*UPDATE Response to owner:
I did not read your full response nor do I need to. What I reviewed on was my experience and you cannot fault me for that. I was visibly uncomfortable in your chair and voiced my concern of how you handled my hair that you did not listen to in the least. What you did was tell me that you knew what you were doing and it was clear you do not. How dare you speculate that I watch youtube videos to cut and style my own hair, HOW DARE YOU! If I could cut my own hair why would I come to your establishment to do so? I did not speak of your character, but you seem at ease to do so of mine, which shows a lot of who you are as a person. Your response was extremely unprofessional, and I would hope that that is not how you choose to run your establishment...
