Sugar Bakery on Centre Street holds a special place in my heart. Every year, I celebrate Mother’s Day by honoring the amazing mothers in my life with their delightful cupcakes. My mother’s favorite holiday was Mother’s Day, and one of her love languages was gift-receiving. After her passing, I wanted to continue her spirit of appreciation by creating a tradition. For the past 4-5 years, I’ve ordered ten boxes of half a dozen cupcakes each, hand-delivering them to ten incredible women I admire.

The cupcakes from Sugar Bakery are simply exceptional. Each box is filled with beautifully crafted treats that not only look stunning but taste divine. Before today, I definitely would give this place 6 stars if possible - the cakes are extremely good (I imagine everything rose is too, but we’ve only eaten cakes from here). I ordered a half vanilla/half chocolate cake on Monday for my daughter’s birthday. Today I got a call saying that they didn’t have any more vanilla sheets for the cake and wouldn’t be making any more, so the cake would have to be all chocolate. I don’t make cakes for a living, but I really don’t understand how that situation arises. Regardless, the change was forced on me - the person who called didn’t ask me what I would like to do about the order or offer some sort of compensation, just told me that they were going to change the order. Not acceptable. I cancelled the order later that day.

Disappointed. Prices do not appear by the items so you have to ask the staff about every single item. They, understandably, seem frustrated, as I would be if there was lots of work to be done.

Found most of the things very expensive. Felt very uncomfortable with the entire experience because I could not make a decision without constantly asking for prices. The staff could be prepared as they did not know how many pieces I was going to purchase so they could not get the right box ready. Cookies were displayed some distance from the counter against the back wall with hand written labels that were hard the read. The writing was pretty but small so I had trouble reading.

But it was the fact that chocolate chips were added to Italian Wedding cookies that prompted me to write this review. I'm 73 and have been enjoying the Italian Wedding cookies for many years but never with chocolate chips.
