Food: The quality of the food ranges from excellent to vomit-inducing. The Ale House nachos were absolutely delicious. The burgers were bad, asking for medium-rare means an uneven medium-well to them. The lobster BLT panini (back from July 2022) was disgusting; I don't understand how most people in New England (with so many choices for delicious lobster) would enjoy this and why this abomination is still on the menu in the spring of 2023. The lobster is grayish and absolutely rubbery. I thought it was the flavors or sauce from the BLT or something, but I tried to isolate the lobster by itself and it definitely seems spoiled or at least very old. I didn't think to take a photo for a review, but another reviewer has a photo of it. I barely touched it and had to eat something else back at home because of the terrible customer service...
Service: The service is fine when nothing's wrong, but it's horrific when there is an issue. I told the server about the lobster being very bad and I asked if it was actually fresh lobster, like the menu says. They said yes, and I asked again if it was freshly cooked just now, and he said something like "oh, no, I just meant it was fresh at one time" as he laughed and walked away... excuse me? What kind of nonsense is that? I tipped them my low limit of 15% because I know they rely on tips, and he really deserved nothing for that response, but it's also partly the management's fault for allowing this to be on the menu and (possibly) not providing the waitstaff the ability to resolve issues like this. Customer service, honesty, and professionalism is apparently the least important thing to them.
Atmosphere: It's a large spacious and casual place, but it can't save the terrible service.
Overall: Maybe I'll come back for nachos one day, but I may not be so easily accepting of poor customer service again. Overcooking a burger is one thing, but blatantly serving food that is about to spoil and calling it fresh is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat ambience! Food flavor and service quality needs improving... the menu is over priced for the quality and flavor of food (we've only sat at the bar 3x now) and we have to constantly wave down bartenders to get their attention; they are not proactively checking on the patrons and walking past constantly without even a glance our way.
I've worked at a similar type of restaurant, during and after their grand opening, and know that they are just working out the kinks at this point, but the food really does need more flavor... the pizza is doughy (though you wouldn't know by looking at it), the beef croquette balls have almost no beef or flavor and are VERY doughy, the beef brisket nachos are just ok, their fried pickles are pickle spears and, again, lack flavor.
Their $6/glass of house wine is my favorite menu item at this time... It would be nice for them to add some more "bar type" foods to the menu (ex: spinach dip, calamari, chip style fried pickles, pretzel bites, poutine, nachos with choice of meat....). The ambience (high end sports bar) and the menu just don't mesh.
The concept is great, they just need to find their groove and sweet spot with the food and service.
Also, WAY too many employees hanging at the back of the restaurant, doing nothing, behind the bar area... gives the bar area odd vibe with them there just hanging out, talking to each other, and watching the patrons at the bar, and having to walk past all of them to go to and from the restroom.
I REALLY want this restaurant to succeed and am hoping they're inevitable improvements will make them a regular hangout for myself and my husband!!! West Roxbury DEFINITELY needs a place like this along...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Boston Ale House is the perfect place to host a fundraiser. Our event was held at the end of February and was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the BAH staff worked tirelessly alongside our team of volunteers to ensure everything ran smoothly. One of the most remarkable aspects of the Boston Ale House was its ability to accommodate a diverse range of activities. The function room served as the hub for our silent auction and raffle display while the stage next to the bar played host to 6 bands and a DJ over a 9 hour period. The restaurant/ bar was perfect size for our 300 guests. The genuine passion and commitment of the Boston Ale House was palpable throughout the evening. It was evident that Chef Drew carefully considered every detail in regard to the menu and display, resulting in a truly memorable experience for all diners. General Manager Quinn Prellās attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction was evident in every aspect of our event. Whether it was ensuring prompt service, accommodating special requests, or maintaining a welcoming ambiance, Quinn led by example, inspiring his team to deliver nothing short of excellence. Our KBRT Fundraiser was a resounding success on every level and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with the BAH staff and look forward to hosting another event...
