Wow.. I am disgusted an appalled in the manner we were treated on Sunday July 19th. For starters I was vacationing outside of Boston for the weekend & a friend of ours recommended this restaurant for a nice birthday dinner. We called hours ahead at about 3:30pm an asked to make a reservation for 6 people. The hosts informed us that they do not make reservations it’s first come first serve. Which is 100% understandable. We arrive at 8:30pm an the first thing the hostess asks us if we have a reservation... We told them that we called around 3:30pm an someone told us they don’t accept reservations. The young women that were “hostess” looked at us like they were clueless. We asked how much the wait time was they told us it would be 25 minutes which was perfect. My friend gave the hostess her name an number, they said they would call us. 30 minutes went by an we were never called. So we went back inside an when we walked in the girls at the front were looking at us with confusion..I then told them we made a reservation with them & they told us it would be a 25 minute wait an we just wanted to check up on our table since it’s been half an hour. They then told us we had to wait another 25 minutes, so now I’m getting a tad annoyed Bc theyre now telling us we have to wait longer. The “manager” comes over an starts clicking on the iPad/tablet & goes “ohhh..this was the table of 6 & they weren’t here so we- ok, I’m sorry but you’re going to have to wait maybe 10 more minutes IF the table we have cooperates then we can get you in a table in about 10 minutes” mind you we were waiting outside an were told we would be called to be seated, so now we are all upset Bc it’s my boyfriends birthday & all we wanted to have is a nice dinner an celebrate at this so called nice restaurant but the hostess were poorly trained an the manager was horrifically mannerless an this gets worse. We are waiting outside 10 mins later a family of 6 strolls on in & gets seating right away...... We now have been waiting for almost an hour. I’m livid at this point, I ask to speak to a manager he comes outside & immediately says “I can not physically remove someone from the table in order for you to sit down I don’t know how much longer you have to wait” while flailing his arms up an down in the air. I said “there was a family of 6 that just came in here an got seated immediately an you told us we have to wait when we have been here for pretty much an hour” he interrupts me mid sentence an says “well that guy actually lives up stairs an he came down an hour & a half ago to make a reservation”..(mind you it’s almost 9:30pm an we arrived at 8:30) I told him we called HOURS BEFORE an the receptionist that answered the phone told us they DONT MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!!!!!!! He had nothing but the AUDACITY to say “you have to speak to a manager in order to make the reservation” that is THEE most ludicrous thing I’ve heard in my life. We were so insulted. Our friends are very optimistic & really wanted us to try their food which was mediocre & expensive for no reason at all. Our server left us mid shift to fold silverware which is not her fault because the person who was just sitting down talking on the phone was her manager. Terrible service I will NEVER recommend anyone to go there EVER. Whom ever owns this establishment should be ashamed they have someone running their business treating people like that. Maybe if we came in Suits and fancy shoes he would of been more welcoming instead of having his nose in the air talking to us as if we are...
Read moreI went to the Reelhouse located on 6 New St in East Boston. This is my second time coming here and it did not disappoint! Last time I was here I came for dinner but this Sunday I tried their brunch menu. For their main brunch items we had their mini pop tarts.
These were handmade and came in pumpkin and nutella chocolate flavors. These were cute but I wish they had more filling in them. If you come here with kids or you yourself have a sweet tooth these would be an ideal choice 5/10. The brioche french toast also satisfies all those who may have a sweet tooth. This was a thick piece of toast with berry compote, whipped cream and of course maple syrup 8/10.
The star dish of the brunch was the salmon cake benedict This dish had the most perfect poached eggs and came with home fries. The salmon was also cooked perfectly a true 10/10 in our eyes.
The non-traditional brunch items we got were the steak frites which had sirloin steak tips, sauteed spinach and parmesan fries 7/10. I wish the steak wasn't so tough to eat but otherwise the flavor was there and you really can't go wrong with parmesan fries. We also got the israeli style hummus which had mediterranean olives, crumbled feta and crispy chickpeas. The hummus also came with these cumin za'atar pita chips.
A great pairing and a very shareable dish. I recommend getting this for the table when you come here 8/10. Lastly, the crab fried rice was another great shareable dish. It had generous portion of crab and diced vegetables in it 8/10.
The cost of everything was very reasonable and I would be back again for a third time! I love their ever changing menu!
Food: 8/10 Affordability:...
Read moreFood was just ok. For appetizers we had the avocado toast which was guacamole spread on a Texas toast. Soggy & lacking flavor. The calamari on the other hand was crispy & tender, good but the sauce was plain tomato sauce, nothing like a cocktail sauce or spicey, and also could have been a little larger as they fry peppers in as a filler. There were 4 of us. One got a plain cheeseburger (hard to mess up so she enjoyed that), another got the seabass that didn't seem all that fresh which is highly unusual since it is a local catch, the third got the steak fritter (I think) cooked right but on the tough side. And lastly I ordered the swordfish which never came!!! I was embarrassed because I brought us all by boat to this beautifully located restaurant thinking it was going to be great yet the food was average at best. Having to ask the waitress to bring the manager over to tell him what happened was also embarrassing for me & my guests. He should have been there immediately apologizing for the mishap soon after they realized they were short one meal. That wasn't the case,, he came when my guests were done. He asked what he could do to make it up like a Togo meal or something. I said no. Thinking he should have comped the whole meal I instead asked for a gift certificate for the price of my meal ($30). He apologized when giving me the card. . I will only go back to use it for drinks. They should try using local people for the wait staff rather than summer students! What would you all have...
