My opinion is somewhere between three and four stars, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I saw a review about Seoul having no soul and I don't quite agree with that assessment, but I think I see where the person was coming from. I went to Seoul for the second time to celebrate my birthday. If I hadn't I would not have noticed some of the things I'll be talking about here, as they weren't really problems my first visit. I was celebrating my 21st so I thought I might maybe order something off the drink menu. In the end, I ordered a small carafe of sake. My server asked to see ID, which I provided, and looked over it to check my age. Now, I'm not saying there's any obligation really, but she didn't mention my birthday at all. I didn't even expect a happy birthday, just the topic to be mentioned. "Oh, you're just turning 21 today." Something like that, but instead I got a detached silent nod. Later, the person I was celebrating with wanted a fork, since their hand was starting to hurt a bit. I was missing rice from my meal, so we called for a staff member and eventually we got one. After a while I was brought my rice and the other person was brought nothing. It must have taken a whole ten minutes to get a person to bring a fork over. That might be acceptable on a busy day, but there weren't that many other people, perhaps six or seven tables. One of the staff looked over at us and saw us trying to get someone's attention. He motioned for me to wait, so I did, and in the end never actually came over to help. From what I could tell, there were only two staff members actually waiting tables and it seemed like one of them was carrying 80% of the burden (ours). The food was very good, great, even. I enjoyed the sake. I enjoyed the appetisers we ordered. This place has, perhaps, the best takoyaki I've ever tried. However, paying attention to the staff and how they interacted with us can make all of that seem a little...
Read moreI had a hankering for Korean food while walking around today and decided to stop into this place on the way back to the hotel. The place looks more like a bar or one of those more expensive restaurants that Boston has all over the place, so it's easy to miss unlike other Korean restaurants where there are signs in Korean advertising the place. Initially, I was going to get their jjamppong since the menu clearly said it didn't have shrimp in it, but when I asked the server, he said it did so I opted not to, not wanting to deal with an allergic reaction from the shrimp. So I tried their Naengmyeon noodles. Think of noodles in a broth. Now think of it in the opposite in terms of temperature. These noodles are served cold with a chilly broth. The broth itself was quite flavorful by itself, but after adding in the gochujang sauce and mixing it all up, that's when the flavors really started to pop. The banchan that comes with it are kimchi, bean sprouts, and potatoes covered in some kind of sauce that's reminiscent of potatoes in a stew of some kind. There are other Korean places that serve this dish, but don't have slices of Korean pears in them, but this one did. The noodles were springy and thin, vegetables and pears were crisp. The broth at the end was still cold, but there was a slight sweetness to it as well as a hint of spice but overall refreshing after a long day's walk in the heat. I highly recommend this dish if you need some food and something to cool you off after a...
Read more진짜 이런게 한식당인게 부끄러운 수준. 😎 Time Visited: 4 👩🏻💼 Summary: My recent visit to Seoul Restaurant in Boston was regrettable, combining average food quality with poor service and a disorganized atmosphere. 🍝 Food: As a Korean, I found the cuisine average. The dishes did not meet the high standards I expect from Korean cooking. 🏠 Atmosphere: The restaurant’s environment was disappointing. Despite its spaciousness, the ambiance was negatively impacted by clutter, such as boxes stacked beside tables and disarray in seating arrangements, all less noticeable due to dim lighting. 💬 Service: I was genuinely disappointed with the service at Seoul Restaurant. On this visit, and in my past three visits, the same server has consistently been part of our experience. This time, when we simply asked for more side dishes (banchan), her reaction was shockingly rude – she actually shouted at us, saying, “I gave you double before.” 🤷🏻♀️ It was unsettling to be yelled at for such a standard request, especially since it’s common in Korean restaurants to refill side dishes. Furthermore, the overall service was slow and unorganized. 제발 스탭 관리 좀 했으면 함. 💁🏻♀️ Would I revisit this place? Never again. Considering the combination of just satisfactory food, a messy and disorganized setting, and consistently poor service from a regular staff member, I am hesitant to return to Seoul Restaurant. Significant improvements in both the quality of service and the dining environment are necessary for a...
