Three of us came in for breakfast, each ordering different items, and every single dish was a masterclass in how to overcharge and underdeliver. I ordered the so-called Belgian Waffle—$12 plus $2 for strawberries. What arrived was not a Belgian waffle. It was an emaciated, overcooked wafer masquerading as food. “Crispy” doesn’t begin to describe it; it had the structural integrity of a tortilla chip. No amount of syrup could resuscitate that corpse of a waffle. Next, the Huevos Rancheros. My friend, who is Latina and actually knows what Huevos Rancheros are, described it best: “the whitest Huevos Rancheros I’ve ever eaten.” Bland, sad, and apparently constructed using salsa from a jar. Then came the pancake ($6), plus a brazen $2 surcharge for a handful of chocolate chips. For context, a bag of chocolate chips at a grocery store costs $5. The math doesn’t math. The French toast with Nutella and strawberries was no better, another $4 “premium” for what amounted to maybe two strawberry slices. A single carton of strawberries costs less than that entire “upgrade.” And after all that? We waited over an hour for our food. The waitress’s excuse: “Our system went down, and we don’t print tickets.” What restaurant doesn’t print tickets? Also, while we were waiting, every other table around us was getting their food, so either the system magically singled us out, or that excuse was just lazy. When the bill finally came, it was $80 for three breakfasts that wouldn’t pass muster at a motel continental buffet. Goto McKenna’s five minutes away, you won’t get...
Read moreMy friend and I went to the DotBlock Diner for brunch on Sunday at 11am. Normally this would a very busy time to go get brunch but we were seated immediately, the service was quick, and the diner was neither noisy nor over-packed. The price was reasonable, the place was clean, the staff were very friendly, and the food was fantastic. I had the breakfast burrito, which I highly recommend. Arguably the tastiest breakfast I've had since moving to Boston. We definitely plan...
Read moreFinally had a chance to drop in for breakfast. Very modern and chic feel to the space, all the classic diner foods you need, and open early. This is exactly what people who still go to work need in this neighborhood. We got corned beef hash with eggs and french toast with bacon. Food was excellent, portions weren't overwhelming, and service was great. They now also have free parking in the lot across the street. We foresee many future...
