Our first visit to The Westland was on a Friday early afternoon, which we positioned prior to a walk around the corner to Symphony Hall and a matinee performance by the Boston Pops for the holiday season. We did not realize that The Westland lunch menu is more limited than the dinner menu (which started sometime after 4PM - just when our Pops concert began). Nevertheless, this was not a problem at all, and merely a sign of our ignorance of The Westland (a place we hope to return to soon for supper and an evening at Symphony Hall). It certainly makes good sense to style the lunch offering not only to smaller and less expensive plates, but also to a variety of culinary creations enhancing a midday Bostonian repast in anticipation of afternoon adventures (rather than siestas). We enjoyed a delicious pre-concert lunch, with cheerful, knowledgeable and prompt service. The experience was highly positive. I had a Jim Beam Manhattan, my wife a Westland Old Fashioned. We shared a Calamari appetizer. Each of us ordered a burger: the Westland Burger for myself (amazing!) and the Classic Burger for my wife, which she much enjoyed. The burgers were done precisely to our requests. We shared a Harvest salad, delivered nicely apportioned on two salad plates - each generous in size. We finished by dividing a Crème brûlée.

TL;DR - The place is beautiful and the staff were fantastic. Unfortunately, the food doesn't quite match that energy. Server - We had Ashley. She was fantastically nice and efficient at her job. I very much enjoyed having her help us. Food- Westland Burger: This burger is very small, which is a bit unacceptable for the price. Somehow, it was very dry, which makes me suspicious of it being a reheat. Despite ordering it medium rare, it came out well-done. The fries that came with the dish were decent. Chicken Tenders: These tenders were very dry and chewy. Maybe the tenders had sat for a while, not in batter, before being cooked? I'm not sure. Either way, definitely DO NOT get these. Only 5 scrawny tenders are served for $13. That's $2.60 per tender... This is definitely not worth that. Conclusion - It's truly a disservice what the kitchen put out tonight. It makes me feel bad for the front of house staff who rocked it. If this rating was for the service, it would definitely be 5 stars. It was the performance of the kitchen that brought down the rating. There's so much potential at this place.

My family was visiting and on our way to the Mapparium we needed to stop for lunch. We stumbled into The Westland for Lunch on a Thursday (around 11 am right when they opened) and we had the place totally to ourselves. Atmosphere: Chic Decor, Nice bar in the front, mood lighting. Staff: Friendly and attentive but not pushy at all. Good for: Families, Couples, Solo, Friends. Location - Super close to the Mapparium and Reflecting Pool, decently close to the Museum of Fine art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum. Parking: Street parking only - cheap 2 hour parking with the park Boston app is available super close on Edgerly Road. Food: Everything we had was very good. I highly recommend the FIG & PROSCIUTTO FLATBREAD with an order of fries (if you love well done crunchy fries- and I do!). My family also got the fish tacos, chicken tenders and classic burger and were all very happy with their meal.

March 2020: I was disappointed with the main entry short ribs, I thought it was a bit too salty for me. Crab cakes are still good. Please bring back Beef Burgoyne, it was your best dish. Note: automatic faucets in the bathroom are not very sensitive, you need to get your hand right next to the stem of the faucet. December 2019: I had crab cakes and scallops. The were okay, not as good as Beef Burgoyne which was my favorite and sadly us not on the menu any more. September 2019: the menu has changed significantly, a couple of my old favorites are gone. I tried filet mignon and it was very good. May 2019: We have had a dinner here four times because location next to Symphony is so convient. The quality of food preparation varied from excellent the first time, ok the next, barely okay, and very good today. One thing that is consistent is that the service is slow and not stellar. January 2019: This restaurant opened December 31, 2018 and is located right next to Symphony Hall. Everything we had tasted very good: French opinion soup and beef bourguignon. The flavor of the broth was excellent, prepared with croutons. The meat of beef bourguignon was very tender and the source had just the right amount of sweetness. The sides were excellent, I am not a big fan of carrots but they made them so deliciously that I kept raving about them. I liked that the had Washington state oysters as well as local Massachusetts oysters. The service was fairly slow, not sure if they would have been faster if we told them we we're heading to a concert. Our appetizers arrived about 25 minutes after order. However the pause between dishes was not long. The desert menu...

We really wanted to love this place. We live nearby and have been waiting for it to open for a very long time. The food was hit or miss. Crisp salted lavash before the meal was awesome, but the hummus is a bit too strong a flavor and didn’t go with our cocktails or sit on our palate well. Cauliflower was great, but the crab stuffed mushrooms tasted a bit off. Beef bourgignon was amazingly tasty and tender, but the scallops tasted just as off in the same way as the mushrooms, they were also seared on just one side and not quite done. The cocktails we tried were all great—especially Helen’s punch which mixes mezcal with a huge bunch of fresh thyme in such a way that made a mezcal-hater like me love it! The really disappointing part was the service. We were so excited to try our new neighborhood ‘go to’ spot, and our server was just not friendly and barely smiled. Her lack of energy and personality really dragged our mood down. She forgot to ring one app, and blamed it on the kitchen, then forgot to ring the entrees and again blamed it on the kitchen. Each time our table was empty she would come and ask if the food had come out yet. The answer was always no, but I found myself annoyed by the fact that she didn’t know the answer herself. The manager bustled by many times with a very serious expression on his face, but didn’t seem to engage with any guests, and certainly didn’t check on us. All we needed was someone with a smile on their face to come by and say hello, but sadly the meal wasn’t all it could have been. I really hope they get some of these kinks worked out because we’d like to come back, and come back often, as long as there is a more...

The ambience was nice. The place was huge so it's a good place to meet up with a large group of friends. The prices are somewhere along the middle but considering the portions I guess it's worth it.

We ordered the truffle fries for an appetizer and they were delicious but I don't know how they are different from regular fries because the taste wasn't anything different. I originally ordered a braised short rib and made sure it was beef but the waitress failed to tell me that there was bits of ham cut on it which I ended up eating. That upset me a lot but the waitress was very nice about it and I was fully compensated but I would have really preferred if that issue hadn't come up. I ordered the brick chicken instead and the chicken was nicely flavored and cooked but the mash potato was average at best and I think it would have been much better if the huge pieces of asparagus weren't on it. The plating overall was nice. My friend ordered a cajun chicken linguini which both tasted good and looked beautiful. However, neither of us could finish our food and felt an uncomfortable feeling in our stomach after leaving there. I did have a chance to look on the next table over because the tables are situated so close and noticed they too left a large portion of their food behind.

I don't think I would go back there but it was a nice place to try once. It's obvious they pay a lot of care to each individual dish and care that their guests have a pleasant experience but ours were laced with a bit...
