This restaurant serves MalaTang, a spicy hotpot soup. MalaTang 麻辣烫 Translates literally to "numb spicy hot"
This was my first experience with MalaTang so I'll describe a little of how this place works. If you've ever eaten at a Mongolian grill, the ingredients process is similar but the result is hotpot instead of stirfry.
There's a big buffet of all sorts ingredients, from vegetables to meats and you fill up a tray with whatever you think looks delicious. Once you have your ingredients you take it to the counter and let them know which of the 4 broth bases you would like, and how spicy on a 1 to 4 scale. On this visit I chose the "Super Rich MalaTang broth" and a spicyness of 2. I really enjoyed this meal, even if I had a few comical moments trying to wrangle a fish ball with chopsticks. The broth was indeed very rich and savory and the spicy level was right about what I usually enjoy, maybe just a touch spicier but no problem to handle.
The ingredients buffet has a huge variety, everything from vegetables to potatoes to fish, shellfish and shrimp, tofu, beef, lamb, and a lot of different mushrooms and meat and fish balls and dumplings. You could eat here 30 times and not have the same thing twice. 10/10 for variety and also cleanliness.
There's also a sauce bar with a large variety of do it yourself sauce ingredients like various oils, vinegars, garlic, soy, some prepared sauces, you can really get your potion crafting on at this sauce bar.
The staff was very friendly, and was super happy to show me around how things worked since it was my first time. They came by to check on me to make sure I was happy with the spice level, and to see if I needed anything else. Great service.
Along with my MalaTang I also ordered the black bean pancake appetizer and a Thai milk tea, both of which were excellent.
I will certainly be back again as I have a lot of things to try. I think this place will be even more amazing in the cold fall and winter months. Thanks for...
Read moreWe went here for a birthday party and they gave us free donuts that were amazing. If you are new to hot pot, this is the place to go They have so many options that you have to come multiple times to at least try everything. Food is so reasonably priced. It feels like it’s expensive but it’s really not after you put a good amount of food on there. Average with putting more food than we should have was like $25-$30, which is the normal price for a regular meal and we took home leftovers for a whole second meal. Soup is delicious. The staff is honest when they’re like do you really want to be spicy because basic and spicy are a whole other level! It’s an all you can eat buffet style, where you can actually see the ingredients before you put it on your plate. And they are honestly so fast with food it was shocking. It took me more time to pick out what I wanted then I did for them to cook it. And to be honest, they cook the broccoli And potato to perfection. I wish they sold the broth because the tomato would be perfect for grilled cheeses. This is definitely 100% someplace that we will come back to multiple times. The price, the environment and the amazing staff are what restaurants dream to be.
Sidenote, it was also really awesome that they had recipes to make fancy dipping sauces that you can control your own portion amount to make it what you want.
(When we go out as a family of six, we expect to spend $300 but we got appetizers, Fancy drinks ,meals and dessert for 170 bucks after tip) It was so much fun and worth it even if it was overpriced which...
Read moreWe’re absolutely thrilled to share that 19 Golden Spicy Hotpot has officially opened in Bothell! From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with friendly service and a bright, inviting atmosphere. While the highlight is undoubtedly the spicy hot pot, there’s also a fantastic non-spicy soup base for those who prefer a milder option. We dived into the oden and tomato soup base, which were bursting with sweetness and freshness, perfectly balanced with just the right touch of saltiness. The kids were over the moon!
No doubt, the spicy soup base is a flavor explosion of peppery goodness! We opted for the mild spice level after the waiter’s warning about its heat, and it turned out to be spot on! My teenager, a true spice aficionado, couldn’t help but exclaim how delicious it was, even bursting into tears of joy (in the best possible way!).
I can’t wait to challenge myself and try the medium...
