Overall a good experience! Sushi looked and tasted on a higher end than most places. Prices aren't the worst, but I don't think the Sushi Boat is worth it, especially if you're not dining in (see below, but the "chef's specialty rolls can range a lot). Most rolls are solid, but not quite all of them. There seems to be lunch specials too, but I didn't get any. Fan of the Seattle Roll here though and it's unique twist that varies from the basic Seattle Roll. Sushi Sandwich Roll looks super interesting! Hope to try that in the future.
-- Sushi Boat -- The Sushi Boat comes with 15 pieces of sashimi (3 pieces of 5 fish), 12 pieces of nigiri which they call "sushi", an Osaka roll which is equivalent to torched sushi, and a standard chef's roll.
The top green roll was a Spicy Avocado Roll. It's the random "chef's specialty roll" included with the boat. Valued at $10, I think it makes the boat overpriced and it'd be better to order individual rolls. The boat is mainly for aesthetics if you're dining in, otherwise it's pretty pointless and you aren't getting more value.
Below that is the Osaka roll, which is essentially rectangular nigiri. On top are tuna, white tuna, and salmon with some spicy tuna underneath before a large block of rice. Relatively underwhelming but I do have a bias to torched sushi in the same form.
Nigiri from left to right - ebi shrimp, yellowtail tuna, albacore tuna, white tuna, salmon, tuna. Some solid, thick pieces and other standard, thinner ones. Great nigiri overall.
Sashimi was harder to differentiate visually, top two I'm uncertain but then there's white tuna, tuna, and salmon. I assume the top two were yellowtail and albacore, but not completely convinced. Tasty indeed.
Overall, wouldn't order again and would rather order individual items. Probably save some money too because there's definitely a price associated with the aesthetics of the boat when dining in.
-- Fancy Salmon Roll -- Salmon or avocado top the roll with shrimp tempura and salmon inside. This results in some fishy pieces and other creamy pieces (with the avocado). Some good variety, but wasn't anything special. Would opt for other rolls.
Lollipop Roll -- An interesting take on sushi that's meant to be eaten like a lollipop, hence the name. Wooden skewers are poked into a cucumber shell, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. If you're looking for a lighter item, this is the right one for you. Personally wasn't a big fan though.
-- Salmon Sashimi -- Instead of sashimi, it seems each item was nigiri. No problem, just noting it in case anyone is curious. Standard salmon.
-- Seattle Roll -- This is not your typical Seattle Roll. I disagree with cream cheese and sushi, so I'm not a fan of the typical Seattle Roll, but I noticed this restaurant had a different Seattle Roll. It's green soy paper wrapped around tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado. I don't believe there's rice. I was a big fan of the flavor of fish that wasn't hidden with rice. Probably get again.
-- Snow White Roll -- Shrimp tempura, crab salad, and avocado inside with a white tuna and avocado exterior placed on top of some spicy mayo. Black fish roe is sprinkled on top. Felt like one of the fancier rolls and the white tuna was definitely welcome. Would order again.
-- Spicy Girl Roll -- Does not look like much, especially in this picture where food is smooshed together, but it was pretty tasty. Pretty standard roll that most sushi joints sell though, a warm lightly fried tempura outer with classic...
Read moreTLDR: sushi is better than other dishes. Great rice to filling ratio for sushi.
Parking lot is a small shared lot--you might need to walk a ways during peak hours as the lot fills.
Spacious area with booths and tables but neighboring conversation overpowers the background music. Kind of feels like a brightly lit diner. I love the swimming koi fish decorations on the wall. Children, children everywhere, at least when we went.
Fancy menu that has loads of mouthwatering images! Descriptive descriptions describing each item and what it contains--Haha! But I really do appreciate the pictures they provide. They definitely prep your appetite--but (as you will read further down) your eyes will be more satiated than your tastebuds.
Service: wait to be seated, order at the table, you will be watered, food delivered to you, check brought to you, box your own leftovers.
Classic Ramen: noodles very soggy and breakable. Egg overcooked. Looks more flavored than it actually is. I'm a salt fiend and this is pretty bland compared to other places. It's a nice start but needs improvement. The broth taste reminds me of a tofu smoothie...
Philadelphia Roll: excellent rice to filling ratio! The roll isn't a rice roll with sushi, it's a sushi roll with rice. The flavors blend so nicely. Very smooth roll that just melts in your mouth. The salmon proportion is generous and is nice and fresh tasting. They give you what seems to be 1/2 salmon, 1/4 cream cheese, and 1/4 avocado proportions--. This roll was cut at a slant, which was novel for me.
Chicken Teriyaki Bento Miso Soup: flavorless. Despite its looks, I could barely taste anything but chunky warm water. Sad because I usually love miso soup! Tempura: I was delightfully surprised to bite into a slice of taro--yum! The breading is slightly too thick in my opinion and was a little chewy on some parts. Cali Roll: SUPER generous proportion of avocado and they have daikon radish slivers in there that add a nice crunch. Chicken Teriyaki: Chicken slightly overcooked and a tad on the dry side. Teriyaki flavor is light. I love the fact that it is resting atop a bed of flavored crunchy stir fried carrots, onions and celery as opposed to lettuce or chopped cabbage. Rice: small proportion and uneven ratio to the entree. Gyoza: good flavor but wasn't very warm at all like it had sat out for some time. Salad: whoa, kudos to how crisp this bowl of iceberg lettuce is! I like the light sweet tang of the dressing.
Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream: green tea ice cream was really good! But this was difficult to eat because it's in a bowl with a very narrow bottom that kept tilting when we tried to cut out a bite. Didn't help that the tempura was slightly chewy and thus hard to cut cleanly. The bowl is very nice looking though. This is a comfortable amount to eat on your own.
Overall, this place is better at serving sushi in my opinion. The tempura batter needs improvement. Eggs and meat should not be overcooked. Entrees, besides sushi, could use flavor improvement. Sushi proportions are generous and flavors...
Read moreMy wife and I came here on a Tuesday evening 6pm. Easy parking, restaurant was about 2/3rds full. Pet store next door had customer with a roided Pit Bull that could kill Rambo - scary. We've come here many times.
Service is always quick to the table. The chopsticks and dishes here are really nice and have a cool design. Look closely at the chopsticks for the inlaid fish.
We ordered the lobster deluxe roll, vegetable tempura meal (w/miso, salad, rice), spicy tuna roll. We drank water. It took about 10 mins to get our food, not bad in this end of town. The miso soup was great, with the right amount of flavor. Tempura was light, with yams, squash, and a few other veggies. Always a treat to have unique vegetables here. The small salad was ice cold with a sweet/sour white dressing. The lobster roll was made tight and with a crisp presentation. The spicy tuna roll wasn't all that spicy tonight, it's safe if you don't like spicy. I like it more firm and tight, overall 3/5 on this tuna roll. Ginger and wasabi were on the sides of both rolls. We paid $38 for the meal and it was a lot of food to eat.
Service was attentive, they're always nice and on task, not talkative.
The cons? Their front door is near the tables and has no windbreak. Today we got blasted every Door Dash driver in and on the way out. We always dress warmer when we come here in winter. On really warm days this place can get toasty. The table area is tight, the central booths are the best place to sit.
Clean place, solid service, and high quality sushi. Far better than Sushi Zone down the road. This is our choice locally for sushi.
