Had heard so many great reviews of this place from friends, so it pains me to write this (well, maybe not). Small, loud place, was staffed only by 3 college students, including the young American kid preparing the sushi. Prices are astronomical, on the order of NYC omakase -- cost was $110 per person, and we all left marginally hungry. Roll pieces were tiny, thin, not tight. Fish was overall decent, but basically every other spot in Boulder has better fish {try Tasuki for great quality, value; or Japango for very expensive, but high-quality food}. The young waitress was utterly amazing, handling the whole restaurant reliably by herself, great attitude and attention all night. Given that the small place had a fishy smell when we entered, and the whole meal was chaotically unpleasant, I should rate Atmosphere a 1. But it's a cute enough place on 14th/Pearl, so I can be generous. Unclear how this place will stay in business, unless they get a real sushi chef and clean things up a bit to warrant the high prices

I'm really conflicted about how to review this place. Got there early on a Monday and it was a good thing as the tiny space filled up quickly, mostly with parties that had reservations. If it had been 30 minutes later there may not have been a table. Was met with booming EDM music upon entry, which was a bit incongruous. Service was great. Started with roast duck nigiri which was absolutely amazing. Followed with miso soup, two rolls, and two rounds of their most affordable sake. Overall the food was excellent, if a bit light on portions. As other reviews have noted the real problem here is price. Including tip the above ran a full Benjamin. I suspect that may be in part due to the high quality ingredients. I guess in the end I'm not enough of a sushi aficionado to feel the high cost warranted the experience. I would definitely go back if somebody else was buying!

We just happened to walk by this place on a rainy/cloudy day, and they had the small patio and door open. We had our pup with, and they were happy to dry off a spot outside and seat us! The fish had (literally) just been flown in and was being prepared, so everything available was extremely fresh. Not to mention they have seasonal and special nigiri/sashimi that tends to be hard to find around here. 10/10, easily in my top 3 sushi places in Boulder/Denver and surrounding areas. I will definitely be back for a tank top to support y’all!! Thank you for the wonderful food!

I have gone here a couple times just to sit at the sushi bar and chat with the people either sitting next to me or the people working. I have had an incredible experience each time, the hostess/server Kasey did an amazing job being very attentive to not just me but the other tables in the restaurant and was prompt in asking if I needed anything. The man behind the counter, Curtis, was preparing the nigiri that I ordered. I tried multiple, and I’ll keep going back to try the other types of fish in the future because it was all so excellent, divine one might say. It maybe expensive, but after talking with Curtis and finding out that he gets the fish from the same source as some of the more “highly acclaimed” restaurants in the Denver area, I believe the price is justified… You may have to try for yourself because it all tasted incredible. And then Will the cook in the back was just constantly pumping out orders, seemed to be incredibly focused, and was kind and accommodating when I had the chance to speak with him. I have seen in the other reviews that the music is somewhat of distaste for the customers, but generally speaking, it was shocking to me that it played such a big role in a review of the atmosphere. I think it’s refreshing to hear something that isn’t just elevator music or the radio and it seemed like it was just what the people making the food wanted to listen to as well and I respect that. However, if music is going to play that big of a role in how you view a place then try somewhere else. Overall I’m happy to rate this restaurant so highly because I genuinely enjoy everything that it has to offer and the staff is excellent from my experiences. Thank you BloFish...

Great intention but falling flat on execution …

rice cookery needs work

Leafy salads are a risk always in this environment - skip it here too - dressing is out of balance and doesn’t make sense based on the simplicity of the lettuces

Ratios of ingredients demonstrate lack of understanding of the way components actually “Eat”

Probably 10-15% over comp market pricing

Solid sake list but staff knows not about the cuisine nor beverage

The themes of fresh delivered from Japan come like spiel at a rainforest cafe - just a spiel … no connection to the why or tradition

Rolls lack finesse,.. good in copy but again, short in execution

Beers are magically warm

Nori is great quality

Sushi cook is full of passion and zeal …. Needs to stage in Japan and feel the culture

Service is Boulder grunge cute … as a reminder,.. this is a well educated and well traveled town … be cautious about lecturing on the basics .. it’s tiring .. save it for the tourists wearing cologne and Mickey mouse shirts.

Love the setting ….

You guys need to develop a reason to come here over there other 6 spots in town … as Of yet,.. I’m Not feeling it … find your niche and...

An Amazing meal that I cannot stop thinking about. I honestly cannot understand the negative reviews for this place. Yes, the space is small, but that is what the experience is about. It is very much the point - close, intimate. We made a reservation in advance (duh), and had looked at the menu before hand (duh), so the prices were not a surprise (the prices are on the website, don't be dumb, just read). The quality of the fish was exceptional and the portions were HUGE. I got the bluefin tuna, the salmon, and the barracuda - literally giant pieces of fish that were the most delicious things I have ever tasted. The salmon and avocado roll was quite large and equally delicious. And I know what I am talking about when it comes to quality fish. We also got edamame and it was more than I have Ever received at a restaurant, and the bottle of wine we shared was quite reasonable. Yes, it is expensive, but great quality food costs money. If you want an enjoyable and delicious date night out, Blofish is your Best bet. Can't...
