After waiting forever to eat at Snooze every time we have out of state visitors, I didn't think I would be content to wait for any other breakfast joints. Until I tried Lucile's, that is. This is the real deal. In fact, this is where I'm taking people from now on.
Lucile's had been recommended to us by locals many times and I honestly don't know how come it took us this long to try it. We did have to wait for about a half hour on a Sunday morning but we were lucky enough to snag a parking place directly in front of the door, which made the wait comfortable in our car. However, if it had been colder outside and we wouldn't have had the comfort of our car, it might have been a miserable wait. I'll only go to Lucile's if the weather is decent because there is nowhere to wait inside.
They squeeze people into this charming little house, that's for sure. We had a corner table and had to suck in our guts just to get past the table next to us but once we were settled, it was fine.
Our waitress was lovely. All of the wait staff had on darling tee shirts that said "Resting Brunch Face". So cute. I ordered the praline pecan waffle with a side of grits. My husband had an omelet. I was super jealous when they handed him a huge homemade biscuit. I snuck a bite when he wasn't looking and I HAVE to have that the next time I go. Light, fluffy goodness that needs NO butter or jelly or honey or anything....it's just that good.
My waffle was COVERED with whip cream and strawberries. Usually I'm a fiend about pouring syrup over waffles/pancakes but this time, the whip cream was all it needed. Because it came with praline syrup, I poured a tiny bit to dip each bite into. However, it was quite sweet enough without the syrup. Nevertheless, even though my preference was to just go with whip cream, the syrup was delightful.
I just read that they have beignets and I'm super mad at myself that I didn't notice that on the menu. Guess that just means I'll be there...
ย ย ย Read moreTucked away in an adorable victorian house just off of Pearl Street Mall, you'll find yourself seated in the somewhat cramped but wonderfully cozy interior -- or during the warmer parts of the year, on the equally small and comfortable patio. The service is always fast, friendly, and exceptional. And the food... I've been coming to Lucile's long enough that I think I've had everything on the menu at least once (several things more times than that), and I've never finished a plate not wanting more. The servings are plentiful but surprisingly cheap. While I will happily order anything on the menu, the stars of the show are the Benedicts -- the traditional variety, or one of the special Benedicts with a twist that are offered, such as the Eggs Jennifer -- are all sublime, made so special in large part due to what is probably the best Hollandaise I've ever had. The Pain Perdu, or French Toast, is to die for, served with a perfect praline syrup. The Eggs Pontchartrain deserves a special mention as well, with fresh local mountain trout in a bearnaise sauce. Biscuits and gravy (Carlin County), homemade oatmeal, shrimp and grits -- there isn't anything on the menu I wouldn't recommend to a friend. The lunch menu has fabulous gumbo, po'boys, and more as well.
But the real star of the show is the Beignets. Huge, perfectly fried squares topped in more powdered sugar than you've ever seen in your life and served hot with delicious strawberry jam -- I recommend ordering them for dessert, because you won't want to eat anything else.
The only downside to Lucile's is how hard it can be to get a table. The charm, atmosphere, service, and food is all as good as you'll find anywhere in Boulder, or anywhere else for that matter. Lucile's is a must visit. You won't be...
ย ย ย Read more4.5 stars. We came here after a nice hike in boulder to gain some calories back. It is a house that's been converted to a cafe so it has a homely feel to it. They also have outside seating with heaters but glad we were able to sit inside.
Their menu is through a QR code scan or online. They offer both breakfast and lunch until closing time which is great because it's not like there are tons of options.
We ordered the hot chocolate and Bailey Irish coffee to drink followed by the andouille sausage Po-Boy, the gumbo and the Egg Jennifer. Everything was delicious. The gumbo reminded me of gumbo back in NOLA, the same soothing warm rush of the stew going down my throat. It was a little salty by itself but perfect when eaten with the rice. The Po-Boy was seriously good too. They added cheese, mustard in addition to the veggies and the sausage and the bread of it was delicious. Probably one of the best Po-Boys I've tasted. The potatoes with the Egg Jennifer were out of the world. The eggs themselves were very beautifully plated and also tasted good. We all pretty much cleaned up our plates which goes to show how good this was.
The hot chocolate was unique in that they added cinnamon and some more spices to it. It ultimately tasted closer to a chai latte than a hot chocolate. Not quite sure how I feel about it. The Bailey's was hot, whichy brother found surprising as he's always had it cold apparently. I have no idea about this, but he didn't like it very much.
I wanted to end the meal with a beignet but we looked at the size of them and there are 4 to a plate so we said but no thank you.
Prices are decent. Parking can be right outside...
