What a beautiful place!! Was driving through town during our Colorado roadtrip right around tea time and we decided to stop by for a quick bite and drink after everything we'd heard. Was not disappointed and wish we had more time (as well as more of an appetite) to try more things on their expansive menu.
There were a wide variety of customers in attire ranging from very casual (such as myself) to a very elegant tea party type mood.
We ordered: Indian Samosas Teatime Chai Rainforest iced tea
Also note that both me and my traveling companion are Indian and we ordered some Indian menu items. The samosas were definitely not authentic Indian samosas but they had a wonderful texture and good flavor inside. The look almost reminded me of an empanada. The mango chutney and raita accompanying were also good.
Teatime chai which is listed as award winning was also very tasty, although nothing incredibly special (perhaps I am biased since my mom's chai tastes exactly the same without the powdery stuff at the bottom of the cup - which should be strained out so you don't have that after taste & texture!!) However, it was a very well-done replication of a classic Indian drink! I would definitely return to get something different that I can't experience back at home :)
The Rainforest Iced tea tasted a bit like "medicine" to my companion until she squeezed the lemon in it which brought out some better flavors. It appeared from the other tables that the hibiscus cooler is more popular, however, and I wish she had gotten that!
Although we had no reservations, we were able to walk in and be seated immediately! We even got a nice corner table where you remove your shoes and sit at a large table with lots of cushions. It was a great spot to admire the decor of the place. We also enjoyed the outdoor area which smelled of wonderful roses. From reading the information signs, we learned that the garden was based on the Tajikistan culture and their method of designing rose gardens. Really beautiful area.
There is a small modern art museum down the street ($2 entry fee) with a wonderful exhibit on COVID-19 and inequalities that was a nice place to visit as well and took about 20-30 minutes at a slow pace.
Highly recommend both!! Will definitely stop by the teahouse next time I...
Read moreThis was quite possibly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had!!!!!!!!! My husband took me here for a late lunch/early birthday dinner and he made a reservation well in advance. Upon sitting down, I noticed that it was moderately busy (half of the tables in the restaurant were occupied). Our waiter came over and recited the teas and specials as fast as he could, I could hardly catch anything he was saying. I saw there were things floating in my water that was already poured at the table and asked politely if he could switch it out. He proceeded to walk away and did not return for another 15 minutes. I could see him being extremely attentive to the other 2 tables that he had, checking in on them every 2-3 minutes. He finally returned to take our order; we ordered some tea and tea sandwiches; 15 minutes later he brought out the tea and brought my 6 year old piping hot tea when we asked for iced (duh, who gives a 6 year old scalding hot tea!!!); he also did not bring me another cup of water that I originally requested and I previously asked for a disposable cup for my younger daughter for which he brought me an empty cup (really, can't even think to put water in there?!). After waiting nearly 40 minutes for our tea sandwiches we talked to the manager who had a terrible attitude and couldn't understand why we were upset...he also said we have no male waiters working right now...was I blind when I saw at least 3 male waiters working in the restaurant. We asked if we needed to pay and the manager said no. Good thing because I would never want to pay for that crappy service. The manager had the audacity to tell us our sandwiches were ready 55 minutes after we arrived. If I could give this place negative stars I would, the customer service was so badly bungled in this case - PLEASE save your time and money and GO TO ANOTHER RESTAURANT that values their customers and provides good customer services! This place...
Read moreI think they're trying to do way too much on this menu, and at least for what we ordered, none of it is done particularly well. Because there are so many interesting dishes, we almost reluctantly ordered the chai pancakes because they seemed like the most boring choice – we were glad we did because it ended up being the one thing we loved (sausage also great!). But the rest was either bad or mid. Biggest disappointment was the way-over-salted char kway teow noodles. I lived in Singapore for years and ate this dish at least weekly on a project in Malaysia, so I miss it and if I see it on a menu, I'm ordering it. They use the wrong type of noodle, and I could easily get over that if it tasted good, and maybe it did? I don't know because it was literally like putting a quarter teaspoon of salt on your tongue every bite. The waiter acknowledged that many customers have shared the same feedback and that it must be the fish sauce, but they should listen to their customers. I like salty stuff – this was excessive and gross. Here’s my guess: a western chef is running the kitchen who insists on salting the water for anything pasta, even for Asian dishes where you’re not supposed to. The waiter was gracious and it wasn't her fault, gave us the soup of the day on the house, which I though I liked at first but it was too sweet, veg was mushy, and was clearly the "leftover veg from Saturday" soup. The thai beef and pickled veg salad was kinda fine but boring, sorta felt like something you might see when the Whole Foods Salad bar gets a little adventurous. The indian Dosa was just weird. Dosa itself very heavy, so opposite of what you expect, and then almost this identity crisis if it's trying to be a dessert or savory. If I lived there, I'd go back to try other dishes. The place is lovely. But as a visitor trying to make an itinerary, I wouldn't recommend unless you just really want photos in a beautiful space, which often...
