This may sound strange to some, but my bucket list includes visiting all of the Yellow Deli locations. I live in Tennessee and we are lucky to have two of these restaurants, one in Chattanooga and one in Pulaski, the latter being my favorite bc of how it’s setup. The Boulder location didn’t disappoint, but it is tiny compared to the previously mentioned.
If you’ve never been to YD, prepare yourself...it is a little different. The decor will make you think it’s a hippie place, but there’s more to it than that. The music is relaxing. The laid back atmosphere is peaceful. The one of a kind decor is refreshing. Not to mention, the food is AWESOME. If you need a place to finish a college paper, or complete some work, hang out at the YD. I know my grades benefited when I was in college lol Additionally, keep in mind that the service is somewhat slow. It’s worth the wait though!
My favorites; The Deluxe Honeybun—it’s not at all like those prepackaged nasty things from the grocery store. Get this is if you like fresh fruit, real honey, and want a true dessert. Reuben—Ok, in my travels I’ve learned that a lot of restaurants have reubens, but this one is better than the competition! Sweet Potato Pound Cake—sadly, this isn’t available at this location, but I thought plug another reason for people to visit Tennessee. This stuff is amazing! Sweet Tea—again, this is in the South, sorry. But it’s not just sugar, they put honey in it as well. So good! Peach Matte—Seeing as we our group was missing our TN sweet tea, our waiter recommended we try this. It was delicious!
Lastly, some have said that this location is 24/7, but it isn’t exactly. They hold religious services and special events, so always check their social media, call, or check their website to make sure they will be open. If it’s like in TN, they close at 3pm Fridays and re-open again around noon Sundays. Other than that, it is open all hours. More...
Read moreYellow Deli is one of the best (& only all too few) 24/7 all night restaurants in this county. Staff are very nice, welcoming. They serve excellent teas, & good coffee. They even have yummy tea lattes, including chai lattes, try the rooibos latte (which has no caffeine), it's delicious for a late evening treat. They even have very good medicinal teas, if you need a boost. They also have good light meals, with eggs, yogurt, &/or fruit, at affordable budget prices. I like the soothing Celtic & other nice, mellow instrumental music they play, often, on their stereo, at night. Makes for a pleasant place to get a late, light meal, & work on my computer, where they have many good power outlets available under the seats, just above the floors, for all your phone recharging, & any pc/mac cords, hubs, or dongles, dangling needs. They also serve decent, & sizable, filling salads & sandwiches, if you need a bigger meal. I also like the decor, which is homey & comfy, with lots of wood, feels easy to breathe, relax, get some work done, and refuel. There's also a fascinating, quirky charm to the murals they have, visually pitching the religious ideas of the group owning it. Their staff is mellow, and low key, and doesn't push their views, it seems they'd rather minister to those interested in joining, & let everyone else be, peacefully, which is the right way to handle customers there. You won't be confronted, they are peaceful. So, it's a really nice late night hangout for me, and others , needing a mellow, comfy place to finish projects on our PC's & Macs, or looking for shelter from the real or...
Read moreRegardless of the hippie, “cultish” vibe, the people were extremely friendly and certainly didn’t push anything down anyone’s throat while I was there. I did notice some Twelve Tribes literature displayed relatively inconspicuously in front of the counter where you pay, but it wasn’t intrusive and had no effect on the experience there, which was altogether pretty all right. I do like the rustic, hippie décor (especially the Haight-Ashbury mural), and it seems the wait staff was a bit…oh, how do I put this diplomatically…socially awkward? One man tried to interact with some of the diners, but anyone (besides maybe autistic folk or the homeschooled) could tell that he was lingering and overstaying his welcome at the table. I was actually waiting for a “Okay, we’re all good now, thanks!” but kindness prevailed. The food? I got their “breakfast sandwich” with roast beef. It was soggy and had something resembling mayo all over it. If they used a hard roll instead of a hamburger bun, this could’ve been pretty darn good, but the texture ruined any of the flavor. Not particularly enjoyable for a sandwich. The Maté tea they let me sample was very good; I especially liked the mango version of it. Stop in for the Maté and the vibe, but try something better than the breakfast sandwich. Oh, and they’re open 24 hours a day for like 5 days a week. That’s pretty cool in and of...
