We’ve been loyal customers of Ichiban Sushi Asian Bistro for many years—even hosting a surprise party for our son there—so it’s incredibly disappointing to see how far the quality and customer service have fallen under the new management.
Our recent experience was unacceptable. The shrimp in the shrimp and chicken stir fry were mushy—indicating they had gone bad—and the pineapple fried rice was overly sweet, mushy, and completely unrecognizable compared to what we’ve received in the past. When I called to share our concerns, the gentleman on the phone immediately identified our order by time and items, yet instead of showing concern, he was dismissive and criticized me for calling at 6:30 PM.
It got worse in person. The woman behind the front desk—who has a history of rudeness—counted the shrimp in the container and argued that we didn’t deserve a full refund. Unless they expected us to retrieve food from the trash, I’m not sure what more they needed to see. In the end, the gentleman only agreed to refund 30% of the item, which was outrageous.
Sadly, after years of patronage, we won’t be returning. This experience was deeply disappointing and completely unacceptable.
Update (Response to Ichiban): Your response is disappointing and dishonest.
First, let’s be clear: the food was not 80% eaten—that is an outright lie. The shrimp and chicken stir fry was barely touched because the shrimp were mushy, which is a clear food safety concern. The pineapple fried rice was also largely uneaten because it was unrecognizable—mushy, overly sweet, and lacking any of the usual seasoning or vegetables.
We called to notify you of the issue, not to be “demanding,” but because we expected a reasonable response given our long-standing history as loyal customers. Instead, I was met with defensiveness on the phone, and when my husband came in, your staff counted shrimp to justify denying a full refund, which is absurd and insulting. At no point did anyone “enjoy” these meals—if we had, we wouldn’t have wasted our time returning them.
Your attempt to blame the customer for your own declining quality and poor service says everything. After years of patronage, we deserve to be treated with respect—not accused or ridiculed. We will never return and will make others aware of how we...
Read moreI give this restaurant a 1 star on mannerism. I purchased a Spicy Shrimp and Broccoli to go, I had someone to pick-up the order. I live in the Upper Marlboro area, give or take 15 minutes to get there and 15 minutes to return home. When the food arrived I was ready to eat. When I tasted the first piece of shrimp it was mushy, as well as the broccoli.
I immediately called the restaurant and expressed my disappointment of the food. The young woman was very nice and stated I could bring the food back. At the time I wasn't in the position to bring the food back for a new order, and the person that did me the favor was not unavailable. I was the care provider for an infant and was unable to leave my home. The young woman from the restaurant stated I could come the next day for a replacement meal. I called her back just to reiterated that I could come in the next day, she replied not a problem " I will replace the order.
I called the next day 9/22/2021 to say that I was on my way. Unfortunately, for me, I spoke to an older woman who was not so nice. Only thing that she wanted me to understand was that she wasn't going to give me back my money, or do a replacement meal, and the restaurant will not take food back.! Please let me state that I never asked for my money back at any time! I told her I certainly understood the policy of not taking food back especially now. I just wanted her to see that the food was untouched just one shrimp was eaten and one mushy broccoli. I wasn't going to continue to exchange words with her because her tone was getting hostile. I told her I wasn't in need of money but I certainly believe that she should stand by her product (Food). the call was ended abruptly and I did tell her I would do a review.
I do understand that everyone has a different experience in restaurants, I will state, this was not my first time ordering from this restaurant, but mostly certainly my last. I stand by my rating which is a 1 on the mushy food and the manager's mannerism. We all just want respect on how we handle...
Read moreThe young lady of whom I’m assuming is the daughter of the owners, really needs to work on her interaction and phone etiquette with customers. My mom was a first time patron of whom had called to inquire about a food item and the specific ingredients. While speaking with the young lady roughly a month ago, she had become somewhat dismissive relative to her communication with my mother. While in the background listening, I kindly asked my mom (a senior), to hand me the phone. In my direct communication with the location, I respectfully and kindly asked the young lady to whom my mom was speaking with, was there an issue in regards to the way that you were speaking with the customer ie my mother with such unprofessionalism? The young lady had become very much “SMART MOUTHED” and by this time I had advised that I would be coming in along with my mother shortly to speak with the Manager, as I will not tolerate such disrespect from a “YOUNG SMART MOUTH”. When arriving to speak with the Manager/Owner, they too had become very much smart mouthed and rude. To add, I’m one of the nicest and most professional persons that one could meet but as a fifty year old man, father of adult kids, and a husband, “I WILL NEVER TOLERATE” rude behavior and or interaction as a paying consumer in any capacity, especially from a “smart mouth youngster” or anyone for that matter. And because of the interaction and biased behavior(s), I will “NEVER” patronize this location in the future. I always advise folk to “spend your money where you feel appreciated in doing so”. Keep in mind that certain “CULTURES” are looked upon as being “INFERIOR” and because of that, your dealt with in certain biased regards. NOT THIS HANDSOME, INTELLIGENT, STREET SMART, PROFESSIONAL MAN OF COLOR. ...
