Five stars in class (small-town diner, community hub, classic diner fare, unexpected menu surprises (tandoori!))
Undoubtedly my favorite breakfast spot in Bowling Green - delivering real-time yesteryear service and fare along with modern-day innovations in plating & presentation. Add to that a very pleasant surprise of tandoori on the menu and it all makes for a "don't jump to conclusions" based lesson.
While here (after ordering but before receiving) I read through all the reviews. I was struck by the multitude of positive notes from Yelpers with high review counts - as well as a couple of negative reviews by (expectedly) low-review counts. Furthermore - it was apparent that Kermit's took all reviews to heart and that is evident in the level-headed responses from Kermit's to those reviews.
I ordered the breakfast club - largely because I didn't take the time to see the breakfast tandoori (which I would have instantly ordered) - and it was perfectly assembled and sidekicked with outstanding home fries.
Coffee tastes fresh and robust.
The interior decor is what I'd call "agrarian Naugahyde" and is consistently themed throughout - with farm tools affixed as 3D murals on all walls.
Patrons seemed to know each other as there were plenty of inter-table locutions.
That said, this was among the friendliest places in Bowling Green - and I look forward to a return trip.
P.s., also bought the shirt. Yep - it was THAT impressive. (Note: I was wearing my Metro Deli shirt from TLH while here. Important...
Read moreThis was our first time in Bowling Green, are nice thought it would be nice if we tried a family-owned local restaurant. We waited quite a while and then a table came open, once the table was open it took a very long time for anyone to come out and clean it Once we were able to get seated we felt invisible as no one came to wait on us. Once we were waited on The host and the waitress, were very rude. Neither one of them smiled and acted as if they did not want to be there. We sat for quite a while before we ever got her coffee and juice. Three other tables came in after us and got their food before us and one table ate their food and paid and even left before we got our food. And we waited over 40 minutes to get our food, which was cold and tasteless. We asked the waitress if she could please get us a new order of Pancakes because they were so cold and she said no she could not get us a new order but she would heat them up. We declined and did not eat them. Unfortunately it was a very bad experience. We will not be returning. Needless to say my niece was very upset because she lives there and thought it would be a nice place for us to go. She will not be coming back...
Read moreDriving back to Chicago from Findlay, I looked for somewhere to get breakfast on the way and Kermit's came up. I was pleased to see so many cars parked outside and what I found inside backed up that hunch.
This place could be average and I'd still be pleased - bacon and eggs is good enough for me. But none of the other reviews prepared me for the fact that this is surely they only diner (in the state?) putting sandwiches on naan. I'm not so sure they have a clay oven in the back but naan none the less is a little more culture than you'd expect to find in a small town! So I had my bacon and eggs as planned: tucked inside of a warm piece of naan. "Kermit's Sauce" surely contains some bright horseradish and will run down your elbows, so ask for some napkins. I could eat this everyday, that much is certain.
Service was good - coffee was hot - food was excellent. There is additional parking lurking in the back beyond what you see on the side of the building. I hope I can come back for lunch one day. Highly...
