So, I leave Chemo treatment which take hours and surprisingly felt hungry enough to actually eat a full meal. I thought well maybe this place in Tinley Park will be good. The pictures look decent enough to try. The only online ordering they use is with Uber Eats, couldn’t log in there so I called in.
When calling the representative asked for my entire credit card credentials down to the last 3 digit verification.
I get there and my friend who takes me to treatments gets out the car to pick up the food. The representative then questions my friend as to why I can’t come in the store. My friend answers them (even though it’s none of their business I have cancer). Just for the representative to say they usually don’t do this (but my friend had to come back to the car to get my ID and card).
My problem with this is…. If someone tells you they can’t come inside for a specific reason but we’re trustworthy with your company enough to verbally provide their card info over the phone to an unknown, why are we going through all this trouble to pick up an order???
Even such, why wouldn’t you let your representative come outside to verify the customer themselves instead acting untrustworthy toward the customer themself???
So, I’m like well maybe the food is just that goooood… right? WRONG! The food looks good, but lacks in flavor tremendously. The turkey leg was tender (mostly) but still had no flavor even with all the chopped up onions and peppers they pile on it. The mashed potatoes were more like ‘smashed’ potatoes without flavor. The broccoli and cheese was just that… boiled broccoli with no flavor and plain cheddar cheese also with no flavor other than cheese flavor. The best thing I’ve eaten from that order was the white rice and pinto beans.
I know cancer treatments can affect taste, but my salt and seasoning taste buds have been working just fine. My sweet tastebuds have changed. This is why I know they don’t have to over-do it when it comes to payment. Your food is average, and if you can’t trust customers when they pick up the food then you have NO BUSINESS asking for payment by phone. AT ALL!
I’m wondering if they treat other races the same like they treated their own…. If so, I’m sure you won’t be in business for long. Not in that area. I was going to go back for breakfast one day, but after thinking about this experience and the lack of flavor and good customer service, I’d rather do business elsewhere. My friend was going to get me something else from another place and leave the order there from all the hassle. This means I would’ve STILL had my money, but they would’ve lost out on money from horrible business sense.
Maybe all their friends/family leaving these fake reviews will keep them in business. The truth reveals itself though y’all...
Read moreMy fiancé and I recently visited S2 Express Grill in Orland Park and had a mixed experience. While I appreciated the convenience of the reservation option (a nice touch for a casual soul food spot), the rest of the visit left me underwhelmed.
The menu didn’t offer anything that stood out compared to other soul food establishments. It felt pretty standard, and for the price point, I expected something a bit more unique or elevated.
Upon arrival, I was surprised to find the seating consisted of tall bar-style tables that seat six—not ideal for intimate dining or smaller parties, especially if you’re expecting something more comfortable.
I also noted during the reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary, since the system allows you to select a special occasion. Unfortunately, this was never acknowledged by staff. We ended up having to purchase our own slice of cake to mark the moment. If you’re going to ask about special occasions, it should be followed up with at least a small gesture or mention—it just felt overlooked.
The presentation of the food was good and matched the photos online, which was a nice touch. However, the taste didn’t live up to the look. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t memorable either—nothing that made me want to rave about flavor or seasoning like you would with a truly flavorful soul food meal. Wait time was average, not fast but not frustratingly slow.
I was also disappointed to receive plastic utensils instead of silverware. While I understand the sanitation concerns, it felt cheap for the prices being charged. Condiments were served in packets, which further contributed to a fast-casual feel rather than a sit-down dining experience.
On top of that, there was a mandatory 15% gratuity, a 3% service charge, and an additional card fee, all applied before tax. These extra charges add up quickly, and the overall price didn’t reflect the quality of the product.
The ambiance was decent, with plastic greenery on the walls giving it an Instagram-friendly look. The music was okay—R&B like Mario and Trey Songz vibes, but something like instrumental jazz or lofi beats might better match the atmosphere they seem to be aiming for.
All in all, I left full but not satisfied. The experience didn’t feel worth the price, and while it wasn’t terrible, it’s not somewhere I’d be in a rush...
Read moreThis was my first visit, and we came at approximately 5:30 p.m. I'm not sure if you always order at the counter, or if we just came early. I'm only mentioning this because in some of the reviews, people are mentioning how helpful the staff was when they placed their orders. Our experience was like ordering from any other fast food restaurant, with better food, and alcoholic beverages for sale. I bring this up because not only did we not have a "server", the person who took our order, "Danita" was super dry unpleasant. When taking our order, instead of clarifying our questions about the menu items, she spoke to us in a very condescending manner, like we were stupid. First of all, we don't work there, so how should we know? Secondly, it's just a food order, so you can turn the attitude and neck rolling, all the down to mute. We smiled like the snippy attitude went over our heads (didn't want her mishandling our food 🙄). We had short ribs, loaded mashed potatoes, and broccoli and cheese, and it was really good. Some spots of the short ribs were a little salty, but it wasn't throughout the entire portion. They were still very tender and tasty. The meal we had was 5 star quality, however I can't give any establishment 5 stars who employs rude, unfriendly, unpleasant people to interact with their patrons. I saw a review commenting on how nice "Danita" was. I'm inclined to think that's a lie, and she had her friend or family member write the review. Even when she brought our styrofoam containers to our table (to dine-in), she still had the same RBF, and maintained it the entire time we were there. Since we were the only 2 people in there, and we don't know her, meaning no one else made her angry, I conclude she's just like that...
