I’m originally from North Jersey, where towns are more diverse and Asian communities are highly thriving. If you want authentic Asian food, Northern Jersey is highly ranked nationally (Fort Lee/Jersey City down to Edison). Everyone knows this. No argument.
Stationed near town for a project and wanted sushi. I was skeptical at first in trying Koi but based my decision in giving it a shot by raving reviews. Koi is quite different than your normal sushi restaurant. This restaurant serves Thai cuisines mixed with Chinese/cantonese. I was a bit confused at first, I had the impression that this was strictly sushi and hibachi. I guess the more options the better.
I ordered mainly sushi dishes and my colleague had a lunch special dish. Surprisingly, my sushi was served on time, FRESH and the sushi rice texture was just right.
I assumed this establishment are owned by Koreans but I was wrong.
Now if you’re a foodie with Asian cuisine especially with sushi entrees. You can taste the difference how it’s prepared with Korean owners vs Mainland Chinese owners with sushi businesses. In jersey, there’s only a handful Japanese owners with authentic sushi businesses that are left in this state. I highly suggest experiencing the true taste from the guru(s)! With that being said, the Koreans and Chinese took over and filled the void throughout jersey towns.
In all honesty, I prefer Korean owners. Why? Korean owners are not stingy.
Korean sushi owners/chefs are more dramatic in presentation, extremely generous and FILLED with fresh ingredients.
Chinese owners sell left-over fish from days ago and their food-prep hygiene are not top notched. Culturally - "Nothing is wasted".
I can honestly admit that what I stated is biased but unfortunately it’s the truth which needs to be known.
Nonetheless, not the best I had but would still recommend. It was good to an extend. Restaurant is clean, the server was attentive and...
Read moreHonestly, I’ve been coming here with my friends and family for many years. The food is always great, and the ladies are nice, but there is a male waiter there named Joe and he always has a bad attitude but my husband and I just keep going bc he was never rude in the past. Last night I went to dine in with my brother, husband and some friends. We got Joe as a waiter and he was incredibly rude. I’ve never been treated this way before. I used to be a waitress myself so we are very respectful and always tip. He came up to our table and was very short asked us if we knew what we wanted to order, but didn’t even give us time to answer him and he just walked away from us. He didn’t come back for another 10 min and when we were ordering he would cut us off and even skipped one of my friends. When taking menus he was snatching them and just walked off accidentally leaving 1 menu at the table with us from how fast he left our table. When he brought food he just quickly placed plates on table and walked off. We didn’t see him at all and he just stopped by out of nowhere to fill up our drinks. Some of us just had water so when he was using the pitcher he literally was doing it in such a rush that he spilled a bunch of water on the table and just walked away. Didn’t even clean it. His behavior was extremely unprofessional and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable and offended. I debated on making this review bc I genuinely love their food and sushi and my husband and I are frequent customers there but after this experience I don’t know if I want to go back. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they messed with our food bc the waiter was so rude. I am deeply disappointed with my experience yesterday and I hope the owner takes this into consideration and has a talk with...
Read moreThe restaurant is very well kept, the service is friendly. Its clear they made a conscious effort to be a competitor. We were seated after a short wait on what appeared to be a busy night. We sat down and drinks order was taken. After our drinks were served our order was placed. There was no one else waiting, so it appeared we had the table to ourselves, plus there was another empty table as well. Served our soup, followed by our salad in what appeared longer then normal for a hibachi restaurant. We finished our Salad and soup and were waiting a few minutes thinking a chef/cook would be coming over soon. Then we were informed due to a bignparty in the back they were seating more people at our table, and an appetizer was being ordered for us. Now I understand wanting a full table each seating. But to make someone wait that much longer for their meal imo is not right. They did try to make up for it with an appetizer (of their choosing). Typical Hibachi preparation with a heavy hand on the Soy sauce. The portions in comparison to a local competitor were small. After seeing the vegetables portioned out and what was put on my plate, I felt as though i was getting the scraps. The steak was good minus again the heavy hand. The shrimp was crunchy and not very appetizing. The rice and lo mein were ok again heavy hand comment. I had to give this a 3 as the portions were smaller and the quality of the food overall. Probably not a...
