This review comes strictly from a celiac's position. I had a very good, 5 star experience previously here. I was even going to leave a favorable review this time. However, I just had one of the worst exposures to allergen issues insensitivities there on Sunday.
It started fine with the person that took my order letting me know he was changing gloves upon hearing my request for the gluten free crust. He also asked if it was a preferrence or an allergy. I indicated allergy and he proceeded to make my pie. However immediately after saucing it, he handed it over to another person who did not change gloves. Her gloves looked very clean and free of any bits so I said nothing and decided to risk it. Fast forward to my pie coming out of the oven. The person who took it out (3rd person to be involved) mistakenly puts it in a to-go box and upon being corrected about it being a dine-in order, slaps it on a contaminated counter then proceeds to use the regular, completely contaminated rotary knife to start cutting. I yelled out NO! But, it was too late. She had cut it across. We had a short discussion and she walked the pie to the counter to start again. I remained in the finish part of the counter. She soon came back and informed me that they were now out of gluten free crust. She asked if I would like something else. There's nothing I could do then and a salad was certainly not going to cut it. I said forget it and started walking to my daughters who already had their pies. As I started to walk away, the girl who took the pie out of the oven, mistakenly tried to box it and then cut it on a dirty counter with the wrong knife, proceeded to argue with me that she had used the propper knife. I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE!
I'm still stoked about Mod pizza and will likely patronize them again. I just won't likely go back to the Brighton location. It was to be my birthday dinner...
Read moreThis is a complicated review. The food was great and the counter service was great. But a major problem is doing end of the night cleaning at 8:30 pm when they close at 11 pm. I love a clean restaurant, but I don’t love sitting down to eat my dinner and having the entire dining area undergoing a full cleaning, from sweeping the entire dining area to spraying chemicals and mopping. Close down a section, okay? But it's disgusting to be sweeping and kicking up everything on the floor into the air right next diners trying to enjoy their fresh, tasty dinner - spraying cleaning chemicals and mopping right next folks eating. We had to pack up our food and exit. This wasn't a little cleaning of a single table or section, they were going full out on the entire dining area, from front doors to the back wall, even closing and covering the trash recepticals which made putting your plates and silverware away a challenge. Maybe start that at 10:30pm/10:45pm, or wait until after the dining room is closed for the night. Wipe off tables and put fresh trash bags in the cans when needed, but end-of-night scrubbing of the dining area is ridiculous at 8:30 with customers coming in frequently. It's poor form. Nobody wants to eat with the barf-inducing stink of chemicals permeating the air and floor debris being kicked up from the front to back...
Read moreHate to blast you guys but WOW..... Who's running this place?? First off, I came in about a month ago and the pizza wasn't bad so I came back today and literally walked out after observing how nasty your staff looked. Hair restraints 101: Wearing a baseball hat with a foot of frizzy hair sticking out the back is not a hair restraint. Neither is a bandana worn like a sweat band with the same issue... You are suppose to fold your hair up inside the hat to "restrain" it. Crazy idea I know... but it should not be sticking out at all! I could see long loose hair on one of the employees arms. On top of that, just about all of the staff looked like they hadn't washed their shirts in days! I don't understand how someone can get that dirty after being open for 1 hour. The women building pizzas were filthy with food all over their shirts. Even up on shoulders and under the arm... How does this happen?? You either need more training or should not be on the line preparing peoples food. If these employees are up front representing the company, I'd hate to see whats in the back. I used the bathroom before I left... Same nasty negligence! Sorry to be so negative but it bugs me to see such low standards in food...
