PLEASE READ UPDATE BELOW This place is pretty good. The food was very good, the portions are generous, the service was excellent and the prices aren't too bad. My wife ordered the lunch portion carnitas plate that came with rice, beans and tortillas. She said everything was very good and could only finish about half of it. I ordered the dinner portion of the beef fajitas (pictured). It came with rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and 3 warm tortillas wrapped in foil. The fajitas was served on a sizzling plate and the beef strips were cooked with green peppers, onions and tomatoes. It was very good. The beef was tender and juicy. I believe the tomatoes, onions and green peppers would have benifitted from a little more cooking. They were soft, but I would have like a hint of a char on them. The accompaniments were plentiful. I'm not a big rice eater so I won't rate it, but the beans were very good. Ended up that I should have ordered the lunch portion. Took home about 1/3 of my dinner. I definitely will recommend this place.
UPDATE: This has been one of our favorites, until Monday Sept 16, 2019. We went in for lunch. I got my usual (as above) the beef fajitas and my wife had the carnitas plate. It was TERRIBLE. I suspected a new cook. When I asked the waitress, she got the manager. She told us that they did indeed have a new cook. I complained that beef was hard and dry even though the plate was swimming in oil. YUCK. The carnitas was also just as bad. The pork was not cut into bite sized pieces nor was it shredded at all and there were big gobs of fat. She was embarrassed. The gentleman across the aisle had the chicken fajitas and said he would only pay for the coke and the guacamole salad that comes with it. My advise is to give them some time for training. We usually go once a week, but we'll hold off for a month. We did eat a little and the manager only charged us $5 each (still too much). Giving them 2 stars this time. I'll wait to change my original 4 star rating until we...
Read moreThe atmosphere was nice and the food was the usual Mexican fare. More than likely we won't return for another visit because of our waiters attitude at the end of our meal. Before we decided what we were going to have, I asked what kind of enchilada sauce you could get on the Speedy Gonzales enchilada and was told I had the choice of red, verde, cheese and one other. I ordered chicken with cheese sauce. Our waiter brought a chicken enchilada along with a small bowl of cheese sauce. I put the cheese sauce on the enchilada. When the bill came we were charged an extra $6+. I said to the waiter, excuse me, you said I had a choice of sauce including cheese on the lunch enchiladas. He said you ordered a side of cheese sauce. I told him I did not and that it made no sense to order a lunch special and then pay almost as much to put cheese sauce on it. He reluctantly took the charge off but we never saw him again. That was the end of getting any more water. My 14 year old granddaughter commented that he acted very childish to give us a grimace and to disappear because he was the one who gave me a list of what choices I could have and never said once that there was any upcharge. If you're going to eat here you might want to ask...
Read moreI wanted to try a new Mexican restaurant, so after looking at the menus of a couple of new places, I decided on El Torro. The menu looked delicious and I was looking forward to some authentic Mexican food. First off, the restaurant was nice, decoration and ambiance wise. However, our server, a middle-aged woman with a long ponytail, had a very sour attitude right off the bat. She was not friendly at all and seemed like she wanted to get us out of there as fast as possible. If I asked her for something she acted as if I was bothering her. We ordered the jalapeno poppers as an appetizer, which were very tasty, although the little spat of guacamole on a pile of lettuce was pathetic. I ordered the enchiladas supreme with a side of rice and beans. The enchiladas were swimming in a platter full of nasty red sauce and the cheese they used to top them tasted artificial. The side of rice and beans were bland and not complementary to the enchiladas whatsoever. I fished the enchiladas out of the red sauce soup and took them home, but ended up throwing everything out as it was even nastier tasting after being warmed up. A very disappointing experience. I will not be back, especially with the sourpuss service I...
