I thought to return here after 1.5 years (called China No. something then). When I entered to pay at the register, I paid but there seemed to be some delay while the cashier and the person to seat me discussed something, causing a bit of confusion about something. They seemed to record something in a log book or on paper . Anyway, after all of that, I was seated, asked for Diet Pepsi and proceeded to get the food. When I was at one of the serving stations, one waitress came back to me to only inform me they did not have Diet Pepsi. I informed her that I did not want any "sugary" soft drink and she said the only thing they had was cold tea. I was disappointed because I really wanted Diet Pepsi and even asked for a discount of the price if I just got water. Anyway I reluctantly got the Ice Tea but she said they did not have Splenda or Equal "sugar". Whatever!
So, I had the meal, even got seconds... egg drop soup... Just toward the end of my meal (emptied plate), the waitress came to my table again and was asking for payment and how did I want to pay. It was if they wanted me to pay twice. Surprised, I informed her I had already paid or I believe I had already paid and something was logged. She seemed confused and this even happened to another customer who had just been seated who also explain they had paid up front with the cashier. Anyway, the waitress went to another station area to retrieve the credit card receipt to hand to me and asked me to sign. I was thinking to myself that they should have had me sign the receipt at the cashier's station. Since this was total confusion from start to end, I decided to make sure to take images of the receipt and to verify I was given the correct receipt --verified the credit card 4 digits and obviously leave no tip, well, because it is a self serve buffet and I did not get what either wanted 1) a diet pepsi soft drink or 2) a prorated discount for just water only. Some buffet's roll the price of the soft drink in its price and some give the customer a choice and the soft drink is an extra added cost and I choose water in those places.
This one seemed better when it was the China No. 1 buffet and maybe it should return to that business model and rehire some of those employees if they are not at the new grand...
Read moreTo preface what I'm about to write, I've eaten Chinese food in hundreds of restaurants in 38 of the 50 states in this country. I NEVER write bad reviews. I tend to simply take my business elsewhere when I encounter sub par food. But, in this case, I feel it's my responsibility as a Dr. to post a warning for those who might be thinking of eating here. Don't. Just don't. All but one of the available dishes in the buffet were room temperature or down right cold. The sweet and sour chicken was 5% chicken and 95% breading. That's the plate they made for me after I politely told them it was cold and unsafe to serve. The odd thing is, there was steam rolling out of the steam tables, indicating that the food would be nice and hot. That is not the case. My guess is that there was only a tiny bit of water in the base, just enough to give the appearance of hot food. The garlic shrimp was hot, but the shrimp were smaller than a dime and way over cooked. The chicken and broccoli was cold, hence dangerous to eat due to Salmonella concerns. Stuffed mushrooms were like little rubber balls. The sweet and sour sauce had lumps of God knows what in it. EVERYTHING they remade so it was hot enough to eat tasted horrible. The chicken that WAS in the sweet and sour chicken was the part you cut off when you're prepping chicken to cook. And, again, 5% chicken, 95% breading/batter. The desserts were not in a refrigerated space, rather they all sat on a table at room temperature with a few flies being the only things taking an interest. There were perhaps a dozen people there at 12:30, the height of lunch time. And now you know why. Even the goddamn fortune cookie tasted like it was made in 1979. I had a similar experience there when it was called Number 1 buffet. The name is the only thing that changed. If anything, it has become worse than ever. The name change is what caused me to give them a second chance, thinking they were under new ownership. If they are, the new owners are worse than the last. Service was great, for what service one receives at a buffet, so I tipped well as usual. It's not their fault the food is horrific...
Read moreI miss the waitresses who worked there when it was Joyce Lee, they were friendlier and provided better service...my daughter and I went there for lunch on Wed. 5/15/19...my daughter paid so when the waitress handed her the check, which was $19.46, my daughter handed her a $20 and said to keep the change...the waitress asked her if she had 46 cents and my daughter said she didn't and the waitress kept repeating how much the bill was so my daughter just handed over her debit card...the waitress brought back her debit card and stood over my daughter watching her sign it...my daughter wrote the total of $19.46 and in a very loud voice, the waitress said, "You're not leaving a tip? Really?! You're not leaving a tip?" Then we were so embarrassed and walked out as fast as we could. Now, the reason we didn't tip her was because she wasn't friendly and only refilled our drinks once. That was the first time we had never left a tip but she didn't do anything to earn one. We had been dining there since my girls were little when it was still Joyce Lee and never had bad service, in fact I have never been to a restaurant where the staff demands a tip. It was so humiliating that unfortunately, we won't be returning and were loyal customers for over 9 years!! Needless to say I called the manager as soon as we were in my car and she assured me it was not their policy to demand tips and that she would talk to her. What a shame but it only takes 1 bad experience to...
