This restaurant is aptly named—chicken salad is absolutely where they shine. There is lots of variety, what I tried had good flavor (of the chicken saladsI came here for the first time this week. Most of my family has been here before but this week was my first time.
Immediately on entering, the plastic picnic table cloths kind of set the tone for the whole experience. It feels like I am entering an entrepreneur's restaurant that has experienced more growth than they were prepared for. That's the schtick though; I think the customers they are after (I'm pretty sure not me), find that charming.
I was a bit confused by the ordering process. The wall menu doesn't really explain your options for ordering. I saw a small laminated sheet that looked like an ordering guide but it was being held by another patron and I couldn't get a good look at it. My wife acted as my chicken salad sherpa; I had her order first.
We both (I was too nervous to deviate from the steps she took) the Chicken Salad BLT. She ordered it with the Fancy Nancy and I had the Kickin' Kay Lynne (cute named menu items are fun until you have to say them out loud). I got a side of mac and cheese and a drink.
My nicely toasted sandwich was very good. I thought it would be spicier, but it did pack a little bite that was nice. The bacon was crisp and the vegetables were fresh. It was a very enjoyable sandwich. The mac and cheese lacked flavor and the noodles and sauce had about the same soft texture. The pickle and cookie on the side were nice additions.
Overall, for over $12 there isn't a lot of value for me. The size of the scoops on the menu are deceivingly large. The chicken salad itself, and the sandwich, were very tasty; the value isn’t...
Read moreI love the clean, chic diner atmosphere. The employees were super helpful and friendly. The selection is really broad (even though it's almost all just Chicken salad, theres a pretty wide variety of styles). I loved their spinach salad and thought it went really well the their chicken salad. (I personally didn't care for the bacon in the salad though, but that's just personal preference. Everything else about the salad was absolutely perfect and just delicious. They were very generous with all the toppings and used nice fresh ingredients. Honestly, perfect.). I thought the scoop size seemed small, but its perfect when paired with a salad (and probably ok if you were to have a heart soup as a side). I personally think I would have still been hungry if I had just had fruit (or some other small, light side). However, the contents of the fruit were great! I love it when stores dont just use the cheap cantaloupe and honeydew to fill up a cup. Chicken Salad Chick uses a wide variety of nice fresh, plump fruit and makes a delicious cup. The pimento sandwich and the potato soup were both very cheesy and flavorful. Spot on! The fruity fran chicken salad was very moist. The pecan berry (I dont remember the name, sorry) was dryer. I personally like my chicken salad more dry and I was surprised they were so different. It would be nice if the menu told you the level of dryness/moistness so you could know ahead of time. The cookie on the side was also a really lovely and unexpected touch :) ...(though I didnt care for the flavor, it made...
Read moreI’ve ordered the Fancy Nancy three times in the past week—last Friday, Monday, and again today. Unfortunately, the quality has been wildly inconsistent. Today’s order was a major disappointment. The chicken salad was dry, tasted old, and had the texture of canned chicken—not at all like the fresh, flavorful version I received the previous two times. On top of that, the fruit mix was incomplete. Fancy Nancy is supposed to include apples, pineapple, and grapes—today, it only had grapes.
Also, the online ordering system is frustrating. It repeatedly rejected my (correct) card information with an “incorrect format” error, eventually forcing me to give up and go inside to place the order in person.
Lastly, and most seriously, I have a gluten allergy. Despite clearly asking for no crackers or cookie, the staff continues to include gluten-containing items in my to-go box, often nearly touching my food. This is not just frustrating—it’s a health risk, and it makes me...
