Great location in the heart of Brookhaven for Thai food, where you're welcomed with the traditional Thai greeting- sawadee ka! We came here for a family lunch and enjoyed an appetizer platter (your choice of 4 for $37) and a bunch of classical Thai dishes: tofu massaman curry, pad Thai, pad see ew, khao soi, cashew nut chicken, and panang curry. Our server Benji was attentive and happy to serve family-style upon request. We had plenty of leftovers with five orders + apps for our table of six.
This restaurant also serves Thai dishes that are not super common, such as boat noodles and Khao soi. The boat noodles are a hearty soup made with five-spice and bone-in meat perfect for a chilly day. Khao soi is a spicy chicken curry noodle dish with crispy noodles on top. 26 Thai takes the liberty of modernizing the fish with a fried chicken cutlet instead of the traditional braised drumstick. The curry part is the perfect amount of spicy, but the crispy noodles were a bit lackluster not having the solid crunch. This is a dish not marked as spicy on the menu but should come with a mild-medium spicy warning.
The atmosphere and service are great. Overall, the food is good. The tofu dishes aren't my fav because the crispy tofu really isn't crispy and the tofu that comes in entrees are a bit tough. Green tea and coconut ice cream are great. This restaurant adds on 20% gratuity, which mostly goes to servers with some directed to kitchen staff. I'm happy to support restaurant workers... however, I was caught off guard by the "suggested additional gratuity" that goes as high as 7%. Things like this show how tipping culture has gotten completely out of hand. Having worked as a waitress before, pushing for a 27% gratuity is incomprehensible to me. At least the restaurant staff appear to be happy and fairly compensated. One of the staff members mentioned that they look after each other and are like family.
We'll be back for the sushi and drinks next time!
Pros: indoor and outdoor seating (with heaters) available, speedy and attentive service, great green tea ice cream, avocado with curry is a brilliant twist Cons: prompts for additional tips (?!), some spicy dishes...
Read moreThe Thai food was excellent. Instead of trying to change up traditional Thai cuisine, they just make it well with good ingredients and attention to spice levels desired by the guest. Pad Thai should taste like Pad Thai, not some weird concoction that they call Pad Thai where you sit there pondering what’s in it ticked off that you didn’t just get stinkin’ Pad Thai :) This restaurant gets that and did a great job.
The salads were very fresh. The appetizers were perfect portions and a good combination of tradition with a few unique selections. The drink selection was pretty good. However, the sushi was fantastic. I was caught off guard by how good it was. Not that there was anything wrong with the restaurant, but often at Thai places sushi is a bit of an afterthought. The quality rivals some of the better sushi spots in town. The rice had a perfect balance of sweetness with a quality vinegar. The fish was flavorful. The knife work and presentation were very good. Most importantly, it was served at the proper temperature. They did not serve ice cold sushi in an effort to mask poor quality like other restaurants.
The decor and furniture are new and tasteful. The service is excellent. Our server was kind, attentive, and engaging without being overbearing.
The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that your hosts are terrible. Just awful. If you want to be an upper mid tier restaurant that expects its guests to drop a couple of hundred dollars on dinner and drinks you cannot greet them with surly hosts. Moreover you cannot allow them to show up to work in hoodies, sweatpants, and sneakers. And that’s not on the college kids you’ve got working there. Heck, if I could get away with wearing sweats to the office, you bet I would! If you treat your guests like they’re next in line at a pizza joint, that’s how they’ll treat your restaurant. You can’t cheap out...
Read moreWe had such an awesome meal at @26thai in Brookhaven today!!!
The customer service was great, the restaurant was clean with beautiful decor. But what you really want to hear about is the food.
As always our ratings are from 1 heart ❤️- don't eat it, to 5 hearts ♥️ great. 5+ is amazing!!! Here is what we had:
Starters Sai Oua- homemade Thai pork sausage, red onion, fresh sliced ginger, whole roasted peanut, and sticky rice ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Roti massamah- massaman curry with potato, carrot, cucumber, and red onion and grilled roti bread. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Grouper Pad Cha- Crispy deep fried grouper filet, green beans, carrots, bell pepper, roasted red curry, rice ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Black pepper steak- flank steak pan fried, Thai basil onion, roasted red chilies, Thai eggplant, peppercorns, bell pepper, fried egg, and rice. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
In all of our meals we substituted fried rice for the normal stick rice, which was a great plan. We loved the rice was brought out in a separate container, so you could taste it and add as you pleased.
We loved to roti massamah so much, we ordered two servings of the roti!!
Our margaritas were also absolutely amazing, strong, but tasty.
We would absolutely make a return visit here and will add it to our list of 5 ⭐️ eats in Atlanta. You should visit too, and tell them we sent you!!
