Last night between 8:30pm – 10pm, I had the absolute worst dining experience ever at Hobnob Midtown. I went there for my birthday dinner and it was a complete disaster.
The service was extremely slow, and our server only had what looked to be 4 tables albeit one of them large, the restaurant was clearly half empty and not busy at all.
My friend and I were totally ignored as the server gave most of her attention to the larger table. When our drinks were first brought out, we had neither straws nor napkins. So, I asked another server for napkins and still wound up having to get them myself from another table. My server never refilled my drink or came back to the table, my friends said his whiskey sour was horrible, and when the food came out it was lukewarm at best.
We waited about 15 minutes to get our orders placed and then what seemed to be over a half hour for some wings, a burger, and fries brought out by the MOD "Robbie". He was a guy in glasses, wearing a black baseball hat and about medium height who was the absolute worst manager I have ever encountered. We actually had to ask for him TWICE before he arrived to "ahem" HELP?
He refused to accept any accountability for the service and his excuse as to why the food took so long is that “they were busy”. Really, with a half empty restaurant, patio, & bar? (See photos) He stated that is why he “ahem” jumped in to help.
Some help, when we asked to see the MOD which also took a year and a day, he proceeded to seat a table of three women and made sure they were taken care of before coming to our table all the while knowing that we had asked to see him first.
He was clearly disinterested, unapologetic, inconsiderate, rude, and totally flippant about the entire matter. It was as if because we had a Groupon he did not care. Again, he accepted no responsibility and just brushed us off as if we did not matter.
Then when he took my friend’s debit card to settle, I had to chase him down to get it back because it took so long (AGAIN) before he finally said that he had given it to the server. My question is why would you give the card to the person who was the initial source of our ire? Instead, he should have taken care of the issue himself and brought it back expeditiously. Yet again, we felt as if we were being ignored.
So, I asked for the head manager’s name and was given the name of “Tyler” whom he stated would be in Sunday morning. Conveniently, “Robbie” had no business cards of the aforementioned Tyler.
It was just a horrible,...
Read moreThanksgiving Meal at the HOBNOB. This was awful. We had a 6:30 pm reservation. 5:45 pm I received a phone call informing me that unfortunately my party needs to arrive specifically by 6:30 pm because the kitchen would be closing at 6:45 pm on the dot and no other orders will be placed after that time. First, let me just say that why would you allow for ppl to make reservations for 6:30 pm knowing that your kitchen will close 15 minutes later? Secondly, how off putting is this phone conversation? Luckily me and my party were already en route. We felt harried and flustered. Once we arrived, we stood for 3 minutes behind a couple who were talking in great lengths to the host. The same host whose voice just called me urgently informed me that I needed to get there precisely on or before 6:30 pm. This conversation with the couple went on leisurely and specifically for 3 minutes. We still had not been greeted or asked for our reservation. It wasn't until another person came to the host stand and asked us our name and our reservation. She did greet us at the very least. We were seated and reviewed the menu. They offered a pre-fixe menu. We sat for a long period of time. Our waitress greeted us and informed us that one of the desserts was sold out. No problem. We ordered each course and the food was lukewarm when it arrived. Our waitress was slow to return to check on us. As we ate our dinner this food lacked seasoning. The presentation on the plate was subpar. We got the dessert and we all decided on the pumpkin pie. When we bit into the pie it was frozen. I mean the filling was icy and crunchy. We looked for our waitress however I flagged down a manager. We all informed her of the pie. She looked shocked and surprised. She told our waitress to retrieve another. When we received the new pie, it too was frozen and icy. To that we politely declined the dessert and paid for our meal. A $259.00 disaster of a holiday meal. We felt rushed, the food was subpar and the service wasn't even there. This place is trash....
Read moreI’ll start this by saying I’ve never written a review but feel like I need to for anyone considering going. My husband, 4-month-old, and I came here for brunch on a Saturday with friends. We were seated and it took at least 10 minutes to have a waitress come to our table and bring waters. She apologized for the delay and took our orders. The food was delivered and the sides were incorrect for our entrees. We notified the person who delivered the food and they called over the manager. The manager came over, asked what the issue was, told us the waitress entered it wrong, and that he would resolve the issue. The correct sides were brought out and we continued our meal. When the waitress brought out the check, we were charged for the additional (incorrect) sides we were given. We asked for the items to be removed and the manager came over. He asked if we consumed the additional sides and said that we would need to pay for them…. We were all shocked. We reminded him of the issue, and he said “yes, we resolved that issue. Now if you consumed the food, you need to pay for it.” We were all so uncomfortable and payed our checks. We were still waiting for our drinks, and sat for about 15 minutes in silence while the manager and waitress talked about us and laughed in the entryway. The waitress finally picked up our drinks from the bar (canned and bottled beer and seltzers) and brought them over, and I asked for the manager. She then suddenly couldn’t find him, so I found him. I told him the situation really didn’t sit well with me and that it was terrible customer service. He was rude and condescending regarding my concern. He continued to repeat that if we consumed the food we needed to pay for it. He told me to write a review, so here I am. As a former retail and food service employee, I was absolutely shocked at the poor customer service and basic human...
