Location/Atmosphere: Great area and you have the option to sit outdoors. Kilwins is right next door for a dessert option and if you wanted to see a movie prior to eating here, that would be a great option as well. You can even grab groceries on the way home from the local Publix.
For inside dinning you should not be able to sit at those tables if you're just waiting for an order. It's not fair to the customers who want to dine in. Put up a sign or something.
Service/Experience: I've been twice and the first time I went I was greeted with great energy. The second time, not so much. I also believe we as African Americans in business struggle in the customer service area. Chef Rob has a big restaurant in Sandy Springs and should definitely put more focus here. My second visit, there was a manager on site and she seemed very annoyed and eager to just get people out. As we looked at all the food displayed and we had already ordered, they yelled out for us to move closer to the door in we were last in line. I had family in from out of town and I had to apologize to them for the manager's behavior.
Food/Pricing: All sides can't be the same price. This issue tells me that the cost of food percentage was not used at all. Chef Rob should know better than this. You'd have to determine the cost of ingredients for a dish and then calculate the overall food cost percentage for your business. Therefore, cabbage cannot and will not be same cost as rice and peas and so forth. Big loss for me here. The dishes are definitely overpriced. The Mac n cheese is great! The oxtail didn't have much spices used but definitely salt and table salt in particular is what I tasted. The rice and peas is good but the ice cream scoop was not worth almost $10 after taxes. The plantain was oily. This place definitely don't give any close to chipotle (Jamaican style). The sorrel was good, but definitely request no ice so you can get your $5 worth. This restaurant offers $5 off after your first visit. I love that they have gingerale as a fountain drink
Return/or not: I would not return. I wouldn't go back or refer the place. The owner however is very passionate and I wish him all the success and more, but the prices need to be revisited and hire a more bubbly staff who can offer what the store needs to be a great restaurant in Brookhaven. Also work on taste...
Read moreIf you’re looking for good service where the staff treats you with basic respect and you don't have to consume a whole bunch of smoke that fills your lungs ... then Perks Caribbean Grill is not the place to go.
I arrived between 5:30 & 5:50 PM on 4/27 to pick up an order, and the experience was terrible from the moment I walked in. The restaurant was filled with thick, choking smoke that made it extremely difficult to breathe. I started coughing immediately and continued coughing for about 30 minutes after I left. While I was there, I saw two other customers coughing as soon as they stepped inside. Everyone in the long line looked dismayed.
The smoke was so extreme that it is absolutely not safe or suitable for people with asthma, breathing issues, or even anyone just trying to enjoy a meal. Eating inside the restaurant is not recommended at all, it would be much healthier to sit outside at their outdoor seating instead. On top of the unhealthy environment, the service was unprofessional and unfriendly. Staff avoided eye contact, seemed annoyed at having to assist anyone, and were extremely dismissive when asked simple questions about orders. When I asked one of the associates ((light/brown skin middle aged ma'am) if the wait time would be about 5 to 15 minutes because if it was any longer, I would need to cancel the order she simply told me to just go ahead and cancel it, without any effort to check or assist. Overall, the line and the environment inside was chaotic and depressing.
What made this experience even more disappointing is that I was genuinely excited at first to see a Jamaican restaurant in this area. As someone of Jamaican culture, we pride ourselves on making people feel welcomed and valued. It’s heartbreaking to say, but the service here does not reflect the true spirit of our culture. In fact, experiences like this can easily give people the wrong impression about Jamaicans, which is unfortunate and unfair to those of us who value hospitality and respect especially when customers are paying premium prices.
Between the overwhelming smoke, poor customer service, and complete lack of organization, I will not be returning and would not recommend this...
Read moreI wouldn’t waste your time. They are overpriced and overrated. The customer service is absolutely terrible! My husband and I visited (2nd time). The first time the customer service was subpar but the food was pretty good the first time so we decided to give it another try. Big mistake. The girl they had working the counter wasn’t there. We waited for over 15 minutes to take our order. The other girl that was preparing the takeout orders told us to go to the kiosk (multiple staff walked back and forth—including the owner and nothing was said, NOTHING!) When the girl finally came up you can clearly tell she didn’t want to be at work—she said whenever you all are ready you can place your order (so no one told her guest were waiting in the front). We ordered. There was a no for everything. No customization on bowls and she was very short about it and didn’t recommend any other items on the menu. Again she clearly didn’t want to be there, and as I was giving her my order, she reaches down and gets her off brand Stanley to drink as I’m giving her my order (after she had been missing for 15 minutes). She also kept scratching her head-grossss! Thankfully she wasn’t preparing the food but still. My husband ordered and he had questions about the portion sizes on the $35 oxtail , her answers didn’t help. She was so short and dry, I didn’t want to ask anymore questions, so we placed our order. Since I ordered the create your own bowl there was an option for cold toppings. Since we live about 30 minutes away, after we closed out, I asked if there was a way to put the cold toppings on the side, she said no, they put everything on the bowl as ordered (they hadn’t finished making the bowl). We asked if they could make an exception and they said no. So we also said no, we won’t be back. I was really excited about this place and again the food was pretty good the first time we went, but it’s not worth the price and lack of customer service. For them to be the “Jamaican chipotle” they have a lot of work to do. Two bowls and two non alcoholic beverages for...
