This is my second time at U Sushi (1393 Beacon St, Brookline, MA 02446) for lunch. Because the first time I felt that their sashimi was not bad (that time I ordered lunch special), I stopped by today and wanted to visit. But this will be my last because the experience was so bad. As soon as I entered the main door, I turned towards the open kitchen and asked, "Is it still open?" (It was past two in the afternoon.) A very impatient voice came from behind me: "Here! Yes!" A middle-aged woman with short hair. She repeated it twice because I couldn't hear it the first time with headphones on. I ignored how I felt at the moment, I just wanted something to eat. I ordered a Tempura and a Salmon Sashimi. The tempura was fried prawns I didn't feel fresh but I didn't say anything. When I got to the last slice of salmon sashimi, I saw a little bit of black embedded in the fish. It's nothing I usually don't care about, and eat it directly. But I still think it's better to ask, after all, it's sashimi. So I asked the middle-aged woman with short hair what black was. At this time, her attitude was okay, she said that it was just the fish itself and gave me a replacement. I accept this statement. After I finished eating, I settled the bill and was ready to leave. At this point I saw that the total bill of nearly $19 (before tip) felt a bit more expensive than I expected, so I took the menu and asked another male elderly staff, he explained to me that the menu has changed and she just told me. I thought okay, so be it, I was about to leave when the female employee came over and said impatiently, "You can leave after paying." And she invited me out. I feel offended. I have a lot of questions but shouldn't be treated like this. I'm already very polite when I ask questions. Besides, can't customers consult if they have any questions? Do I have to accept the food I paid for that I am not satisfied with? Then I told her that I would never come again, and I would give her one star, and she sneered and said, "I don't care!" I thought it was speechless and funny, and I wasn't very angry because it didn't worth it, this middle-aged woman with short hair may be in menopause so she has a bad temper. It's just that I've never had a dining experience like this, I feel so bad, I'd love to get my tip back. I wrote so much to let more people see how this store tramples on the concept of "customer first" which is common in the catering industry. I was surprised that the waiter was so arrogant and mean. This is my first time leaving a bad review. This took over 20 minutes. But I hope more people see and try not to come to this restaurant. You have countless better Japanese food options in Boston.

I discovered U Sushi after 3 years of employment in Brookline, MA and I am so grateful I did. They offer some amazing lunch sushi and bento box specials. The owners and staff are incredibly welcoming and polite. I now visit once a week and get the 3 maki roll lunch special. It comes with Miso Soup and a garden salad. It is some of the best maki I’ve ever had! My go to is spicy yellowtail, spicy scallop with tobiko and a crazy maki. Give this family run, local business a try, you will not be disappointed.

This is a great place to get sushi!

I've tried many of their maki rolls over the years. From salmon to unagi to the shrimp tempura. But my absolute favorite is their summer roll. It's a veggie roll and so delicious. It has cucumber, mango, banana, avocado and cream cheese. It works so well! I haven't found such an innovative veggie roll anywhere else!

Most people choose to do take out from here, that's why I love to dine in. The seats are comfy, the decor is cute and I've never had to wait for a seat. You place your order and it takes a few minutes for your food to be ready. Very quick and efficient service!

Staff is very nice, kind and accommodating. Once we did takeout and saw that our veggie roll had tobiko on it. We called and let them know and the lady who answered the call asked if we could send a photo of it. And that's absolutely fine since we weren't eating in the restaurant. As soon as she saw the photo, she apologized and offered to send a complimentary roll. We weren't hungry at the time so we thanked her for the offer but politely declined. She insisted that the next time we come in, we ask for her so that she could make up for this time. I think that's great customer service!

Thank you, U Sushi, for being a tasty, affordable sushi option in the...

As for quality, this place gets 2.5 stars. I've had worse, but I'm not exactly about to beg for the sashimi. Pretty good selection of rolls, however. And, if you order right, this place is great for its price point. They offer a lunch special, "Any 3 Rolls Lunch" that's basically mispriced at 12.95, as it includes 3 rolls, miso and salad. Truth be told, most of the rolls are subpar - the eel has a weird buttery after taste, and any "spicy" option is 99% soggy tempura with spicy mayo. If I were to recommend the 3 rolls, and I get this just about every Sunday, I'd recommend tuna maki, salmon maki and crazy maki. Safe bets all around and there's nothing like getting filled up on decent+ sushi for under $15. Nice delivery guys and there have been instances where it comes in 25 minutes when I live under 10 mins away. You can find better sushi at most sushi joints, but if you order right, this place is very good at its...
